Friendship between Rowan and Barnaby

I’d like to share with you my observations about the relationship between these two which developed in the background, and maybe not everybody has noticed it. I’ll focus mainly on the things that are indeed in the game, and then I’ll put some of my interpretation as well, but let’s start with the facts.

The first hint of their friendship was in year 4 during the Care of Magical Creatures class when Barnaby told us: “Rowan promised to help me study. I like Rowan.” It was really sweet, considering that Barnaby wasn’t very long in our group at this point.

More things came with the History of Magic. I like to use this class for grinding, so at some point, I’ve noticed that Rowan and Barnaby sit together quite often. In fact, it’s in 5 of 9 different activities. It’s the most common pair. In two cases Barnaby sits alone, but in the bench next to Rowan’s.

The only time Barnaby sits in the first row in HoM is during Rowan’s lecture. MC notices then that he’s exceptionally attentive. He also mentions again that Rowan tutors him sometimes.

I’m really happy they put it in the story, even if it doesn’t get much of the screen time. Rowan and Barnaby are quite different at first sight, but they complete each other. They’re also both so pure.

Now, something that is definitely more up to you. Did you know there’s a heart with Barnaby’s name in the HoM classroom? A lot of people speculate that it was made by Ismelda. There are also guesses that Liz was the author. However, did you know that Rowan scraped their initials in the Charms classroom? So, to my understanding, they’re no stranger to similar acts of minor vandalism… 

I’m just going to leave it here.
