I figured out why Spike really is the one for Buffy, it’s because he’s the most selfish one of her love interests (Riley/selfishness tangent in tags). Like Angel literally chose saving the world over her when given the choice and left when things were difficult, which like yeah he’s a great guy for that, and it’s what makes him a hero, but because Buffy also has to do that, make those kinds of choices she needs someone who will always choose her above everything, who has literally nothing else going on and who will always find a way to make it possible for them to be together, and that’s Spike. He would fucking never choose saving the world over her and that’s why he’s the one.
