Peaceful⌠That was the best word to describe it. It was better than nothing. They had people who cared about them. Even if they made their mistakes and ruined it all. Even if theyâre about to find out just how badly they messed everything up.
As they listened in silence, Frisk told a long, unwinding tale of the events they experienced. All they could do is beg Chara to trust them it was truth, but hearing it, it was hard to believe. Not that they had a choice to doubt it. Itâs the only thing that could have made sense. After all, both they and Asriel died. Why wouldnât things fall apart after that?
It was a tale of war. Murder. Destruction. Divorce. Rebirth. Determination. Their departure lead to the collapse of everything they cared for. The monsters who had shown them endless kindness were ripped into shreds due to their carelessness- their stubborn need to do things their own way. It was all their fault, their fault, their fault. If they had just listened to reason, maybe this wouldnât have happened.
Maybe if they could have listened and considered how Asriel felt of the plan, they wouldnât have died in vain. And they wouldnât have once again started up a painful, meaningless war in the aftermath.
ââŚâŚâŚâ Monsters were bent on dealing with the humans. They thought this was the answer now. There was no better way. âŚNot that Chara was any better. But hearing the race they cared about so dearly turning into thisâŚ
And Asriel, too. He was⌠alive. Barely. But alive nonetheless. Just hearing thatâŚ
He thought I was you. âAsriel⌠Wanted to kill me?â Their immediate thought was I wish I could be surprised. I honestly had it coming. I got you killed. But that wasnât Asriel. They know he wouldnât harm a soul. He was full of forgiveness, kindness, a crybaby at heart⌠So how did all this happen? Why would they get Asriel involved in this mess? Not him. Anything but him. Heâs suffered enoughâŚ
âNo. âŚI need to rethink this.â Chara shakes themselves away from their thoughts. So much information was thrown at them at once, and they were being eaten alive by their internal reactions. Placing one hand on their forehead they took a few deep breaths, trying to regulate their heartbeat.
Frisk⌠Didnât hurt anyone. That was an important point to remember. They attacked them, but they didnât attack back. They only gave kindness in return. Could a human⌠Really do that? Strange. For so long, they thought nothing but disdain for humans. And here they are questioning that trail of thoughts. After all this time. After itâs too late. After theyâre long dead and caused all of this.
ââŚOkay.â It took them a long time of silence, contemplation, and battling with their own thoughts, but they seemed to accept what Frisk said finally. Another long, shaky breath and they cross their arms, trying to keep themselves together. âThen what? You fought Asgore. You fought Asriel. You went up against the strongest monsters in the Underground⌠And didnât kill them. Then what happened?â
They didnât even bother putting any of their feelings in the mix, merely requesting more information. After all, most of what they thought was writing itself across their face.
âI...donât think he wanted to kill you, itâs just, I didnât tell you about why he started acting like that, did I?â That was something they left out of their tale, the powers of determination and saving and loading. Plus, they didnât say anything about how Asriel had turned into Flowey, they were and werenât the same person. Frisk knew them as Flowey and Chara knew them as Asriel.
There were people that cared about them, Frisk and Chara both. Chara cared about their family from when they fell and Frisk cared about them now in return, being able to show them mercy and kindness, along with a lot of other monsters. But Flowey justâŚ
Didnât care. He couldnât care. All the resets had affected him, even if he did care in the beginning. Heâd done everything that the Underground had to offer, killed everyone one, saved everyone, learned everything he could just to...feel something. Things only changed once they fell and stolen his power of saving.
âFlowey, er, Asriel had the powers of saving and loading when he turned into a flower. In other words, he could reset the world back to when he first woke up as a flower. He used it several times to do whatever he wanted. Saving everyone, killing everyone, learning everything he wanted, all just to try and feel something. When he turned into a flower, he lost his soul, because heâd been injected with determination and couldnât feel anything like love. He just, wanted his power back, so he was trying to kill me in order to do that. He might have just been projecting you onto me, since you were his only friend or something like that.â
âHe was in a sense using me. Once I spared Asgore, he killed him and  destroyed his soul, so I wasnât able to escape. He used the other human souls to turn into a horrible creature which I had to defeat. It...wasnât easy thatâs for sure. Once I freed the human souls and they turned against him, I spared him despite having the chance to finish him off.  He couldnât understand why I was doing it, so he ran off crying. But I was stuck and loaded back to before I fought Asgore. There was more for me to do, I just felt it.â
âAnd I was right. I ended up going through the labs of one of the scientists and learned about the determination experiments and what happens to monsters that get injected with them. It was after all that I found myself making the way to Asgore again, only to not fight him as Toriel and my other friends showed up. Though, Asriel had deceived us, taking the human souls and the souls of every monster in the Underground and he finally turned back into his former self. Then he tried to kill me, to take my power of saving and loading so he could keep the world in an eternal loop that never ended because he didnât want to say goodbye to you. Despite everything he did, heâs still a child after all. And well...I spared, or rather saved him, and it was he who broke the barrier, freeing everyone using the human souls and the souls of everyone in the Underground. Though I did help in a sense.â
Itâs a lot to take in, they know. Charaâs face and the way theyâve been reacting says it all of how they feel about this. They still canât believe it either, everything thatâs happened to them while they were in the Underground and all that happened before they even arrived in the Underground. They might be forgetting something, but thatâs basically everything that matters right now, at least they think so.
They can only hope that Chara takes this well, considering how close they were to Asriel. Considering what had happened to him well...who knows how the other would react? It was hard enough the first time to see how they reacted to this, so who knows how theyâll react this time. All they can do is wait and see how they react.
