None of their business, in any case, he just needed to set the record straight. Batter rolls his eyes, wondering how something so simple could be seen as complicated. “Forgive me then, but I’ve never seen a monster that looks like a human.” Or was he a monster? He just said he wasn’t human. This whole thing was already confusing enough, and being treated like a naive child is just frustrating. Anyone could’ve made that assumption! Goodness, they only have guesses as to how Gaster met and befriended this guy. “The whole talking skeleton thing is a little less weird to me. I’m used to monsters. As in, ones that don’t look human.”

"Is it really safe for the fish in that bag?" They had been eyeing the goldfish stall for awhile now, only prompted to walk up when they saw someone finally win one. No way that was proper care for a fish, though perhaps they're wrong? Truth be told, they've never owned a pet, much less a fish, but... It still bothered them. Seeing all of them cramped in those small bags with barely any room to swim around. Call them overly caring. "How long has it even been in there? Have they fed it?"

There’s a lot more he could (but won’t) say, after all. “I’m not human. … No, I didn’t know them. Just Gaster. I lived with him for a while.”

“Perhaps for you. You seem to know him well.”

If that didn’t make it obvious enough, there you go. They honestly never expected to learn that much about Gaster in the first place, actually. Opening up to others? Learning about them? What a concept that Chara’s never heard of! “Ah, I see. ...Wait. Wait, what? You’re not human? ...But you look human to me???”

Does this kid even know that, or is he giving someone more information than necessary? Whatever. They’d find out at some point what Gaster is like. Maybe they aren’t as close as he assumed, which brings him some sort of relief, strangely enough. “Ah. … I was down there for a time with him as well. I never saw you around.”

“Really. ...I wouldn’t have imagined that at all.”

Honestly, they do kinda feel like they’re intruding on his private life now. They’re probably going to keep quiet about knowing this for his personal comfort. It’d definitely feel weird if Frisk went around telling people about themselves, after all. “Hmm. I thought I was the only human down there. ...You didn’t happen to be a friend of the royal family too, did you?”

Really, who does Gaster talk to outside of small children? That seems to be his main demographic (for God knows whatever reason he has). It’s been a while since he’s interacted with someone so young—Batter seems slightly uncomfortable. Why is he doing this? “I wasn’t sure if you knew him from outside of the city or not. That’s all.”

“...He doesn’t? That’s news to me.”

Sure, the guy forcibly made them friends, but. They actually don’t know him that well! Every conversation they’ve had was rather casual, to be honest. Still, may as well throw him a bone (ha!), considering he seemed to know Gaster well enough. “...Oh, you mean from the Underground? He knew my family, but we never met officially.”

“I remember seeing you before.” Batter was walking by the gardens on a whim, but upon seeing the child, he felt he needed to speak up (for once). He vaguely recalls Gaster speaking to this small kid at the ball, so he might as well get information out of them while he can. “… How do you know Gaster?”

“...Huh?” You sure know how to startle people, Batter. What kind of out of the blue question was that? Gaster? ...Oh, right. They too recall seeing them together at the ball. Friends, probably. Doesn’t explain the reason he’s decided to walk up and interrogate them, though. “We met here in the city. ...Why?”

They had meant to find Chara earlier, but it was kind of hard with running into a few people that they knew, along with some new faces as well. Plus they were trying to be social, but then again it wasn’t that hard for them to be social, considering they were able to befriend people quite easily. Even if they didn’t really talk to people, they were still able to be friendly to basically everyone they encountered.

They watch as Chara finally pick themself off the ground and look over to them. Really, they shouldn’t be surprised that Chara was about ready to leave, they weren’t as social as them. It had been quite a struggle to get them to the ball in the first place, so they should be happy about that, but they still want to see Chara be a bit more social and friendly. Baby steps though, this was a step in the right direction.

“Well I did end up meeting a few people that I knew, and some new faces as well, but I meant to come and find you once I found out you were alone. I don’t think I need to guess why you’re out here alone. Is it really too much to ask that you’d be up for staying a bit longer?“

Baby steps might be a bit of an understatement. Considering how they've been here for less than an hour and they're already prepared to bolt. Or maybe the fact they spent the entire time hiding here waiting for Frisk. But it's a start, right? They actually showed up. And they're wearing something festive to boot-- who knows how much nagging it took them to put that on. (Most likely a lot, let’s be real.)

"I'm not surprised. But I thought you'd know me better than that." Y’know, cause of the whole 'I traveled through the Underground with your dead self' thing. They're still processing how exactly that worked, but... Frisk should at least know a bit about their personality, right? Or perhaps it was different, then. Not like they'd know. The kid knew enough to find them when they evidently didn’t appear to the main event. They've gotta know more. ...Hopefully.

“And you’re making me stay longer, too? Goodness. You’re asking for a lot.” They just want to go home! If they had no heart (ha!) they probably would’ve, but all Chara can manage is a defeated sigh, shrugging their shoulders. “You leave me no choice. What exactly do you want to do here, anyways? ...If it’s dancing, I must warn you in advance I’ve never danced with a partner before.”
