Kinda went off on tangent here- The idea just kept rolling on its own.
In response to that I say this:It depends on the amount of sense Neuvillette has. If Neuvillette has enough sense to know he’s outmatched and at the very least has a decent enough sense to know not to put the entire country Furina! Mc held on her back for centuries. It takes about a week or two by the time he first leaves the tower out of both frustration and to let Furina! Mc adapt… only to come back to this. It's a wake up call. A big one.
It takes three days for him to get even part of sense back, but ultimately its Furina! Mc who sets him straight without her even being her. Its the demands to go back to liyue, its the refusal to wear Fontaine style clothing she used to, its the crying out for her wife and the constant pushing away when he tries to comfort her, its the mating bite on her neck thats not from him, its the fact that she refuses to smell like him. Its the war declaration, its the signs that Liyue is gearing up for war, its the evacuation of his people, the fact that every other nation is either against Fontaine or refusing to stand in on the war. ‘
Its the fact he’s not backed into a cornor, he’s front center of the room with all eyes on him, watching his action, each person from his back to his front ready to make a move solely based on how he acts. If he was backed into a corner he could at the very least know from immediate sight who his enemies were, but he can’t see from all around him in every direction. Because going for a full attack might make people who were willing to remain neutral into his enemies.
He writes a white flag and within hours a group of Adepti are safety bringing Furina! Mc back to liyue as she refuses to look at him.
(He has lost his heart for the third time, once of his own making, once of a believed death and once, now, because he has shattered any chance of it returning to him permanently.)
He still keeps his ears out for news. He takes the day off when he learn that Ganyu and Furina! Mc had children together. Ones that look like Furina! Mc with horns. He goes missing for a week straight when he learns that Ganyu and Furina! Mc have tied their lifeforces together so that Furina! Mc could live alongside Ganyu. He’s been drifting for so long and-
Wriothesley is the one who sets him straight. He sits Neuvillette down, he talks him down, he tells Neuvillette everything he did wrong straight to his face, he doesn’t hesitate to list out the full consequences of Neuvillette's actions, what Neuvillette's actions could have done if he’d refused to hand over Furina! Mc. For once, someone judges the Hydro Sovereign, and he’s guilty on all accounts, but there is no grand punishment, no call for his removal.
What he is instead put into is Wriothesley dragging him down Meropide once a week not to do manual labor or too judge but to exist, to get away from everything that his mind surrounds him with (FurinaFurinaFurina, his mind calls, before Wriothesley smacks on the back of his head.) and Wriothesley is the one who pieces their Indeux together.
He’s vicious and biting and doesn’t give Neuvillette a moment to breathe, let alone think.. Its good for him. He grieves and lets go, he breaks and shatters and Wriothesley will come to the surface and dump a bucket of water on him and piece him back together again.
To Dragons, their mates are everything. To Humans, they can be everything, but they also have to be their own person. Humans have learned to take both rejection and letting go a hell of a lot easier than dragons. It's Wriothesley who punches the dragon in the face and tells it to go to hell, its Wriothesley who lists everything the human has done wrong.
(One day, his mind does not call out Furina. He looks to Liyue and feels something more akin to wellworn grief.)
(Everyone ages…. And he does not want to be alone. Furina! Mc was the only unchanging factor he had for almost four hundred years.)
(But Wriothelsey grins at him when he tells him that and says with that viciousness on his tongue. “I’ll stick around if I want to, big blue”. Its acceptance. Its an acceptance he doesn’t deserve. But it's an acceptance from someone who will bite back, who refuses to roll over and give in. It's from someone who fought every step of the way to get where he was.)
(Wriothelsey, his mind whispers, Writholesey is bitter and vicious and he’s not my everything, he’s not everything I need. But maybe he’s what I needed the most.)
Cinema. This. Was. Cinema. And a perfect way to end things off.
Furina!MC got back to Ganyu and their family, and even Neuvillette, while a little bittersweet, was slowly healing, slowly moving on... and I smell some Wriolette in the air~
