I still can’t get over the fact that A COP got Carl ADDICTED TO CIGARETTES in an (illegal!!) attempt to coerce him to admitting to murdering his father (the father that was very much alive and had just straight-up abandoned his teenage son. The cops didn’t give a shit about that though because why would they?) Most of the fucked-up shit that happens to these characters is at the hands of the powers-that-be. The cop was more than a decade before the crawl. He was just a predatory and manipulative pig. It was just one sentence in a longer fucked-up backstory, but I think about that detail a lot.

I’ve seen people say that the main/only flaw of the Project Hail Mary book is the pacing, and that Grace’s science monologues took them out of it a bit or were hard to understand. I actually completely disagree. I wish the book had been twice as long so I could have gotten a detailed description of everything that happened after Grace and Rocky reunited. I want to read his reports/info that he included with the beetles. I wanted him to give me every page of those papers he said he should be writing (I know he wouldn’t have gotten a chance to write/finish them but still, gimme!).

The last chapter or two of the book would have been able to be an entire book by themselves, and while I get why that time was excluded, I really want to read it anyway.
