I’m truly disgusted at that! I’m so sorry you’re in a horrible place right now and I only wish the best for you, since this is an extremely hard time. Please don’t delete your stories! There are many readers who adore your fics and I certainly cherish them. Reviews like that are so ungrateful for the authors to even post anything! Please take care of yourself, and like I said before, I hope all gets better 😭❤️
Thank you so much, friend. The desire to delete is passing, partially because of so many nice people here and on Twitter reminding me how much they value them, and partially because I’d almost certainly regret it once I’m well and in a better headspace. Which I’m praying will be soon.
You can’t just say “don’t take it personally”, because that’s not how our brains work. You can know on one level that you’ll always get stupid reviews on things because people are idiot troglodyte scum barely evolved past a chimp and honestly I think chimpanzees have better social manners sometimes…. but knowing that doesn’t make it less upsetting. But please don’t stop posting and doing what you love. Disable the reviews if it helps.

Yeah, I know that people like that are responsible for their behavior, and that them choosing to be cruel to a stranger on the internet is a reflection on them, not me. But when they’re saying shit like Sakura isn’t actually grieving her loss, she’s just trying to punish Sasuke, it hits home in a bad way.
As for disabling reviews, I don’t think you can do that on FFN. I’ve got comment moderation set for guest reviews, so I was able to delete this one. I’m tempted to turn off notifications, but unfortunately if I don’t delete guest reviews within 5 days they go live. :/
How dare that person do that?? You are NOT at fault they are. I haven put fic on ao3 so I’m not sure how it works but is it possible to get like a moderator of some kind to read reviews beforehand? I’ve seen on other fic that it says that a moderator will check comments before they show up, but idk if that moderator has to be the author or if it can be someone else.
It was on FFN not AO3, unfortunately. I’ve got moderating guest reviews set up, so I was at least able to delete it before it went public. That said, if you look at my response to rottenbrainstuff above you’ll see why turning off notifs won’t really work for me. Nonetheless, I really appreciate your support.

You have to tune them out, behind the screen, they’ll say whatever they want and feel nothing. You are so much better than what they’re making you feel and you can fight this. People need to remember that you’re making fics for fun, it’s all for you and you choose to share it with us. We appreciate and love your work and the fact that you even put it out for us to see! Don’t listen to them, they don’t matter in your life.
I’m trying to tune it out, I really am. It’s just that the things they said weren’t a dig at my writing, they were a dig at Sakura as a person and how she’s grieving in the fic. Which is pretty close to what I’m going through emotionally right now, and so it felt more personal than it should have. Plus I’m just not in a state of mind where I can brush off cruelty. I’ve been so hurt for so many years, and now again so severely just like 10 days ago, that I feel like I’m about to fall apart. I’m calling upon a lot of hard work in therapy to remind myself that the things that have been done to me are not my fault, but sometimes it’s hard to remember when abuse just keeps getting piled on and on. On top of that I have PTSD, and that review was triggering. My brain is literally wired to not tune out bad things, and it’s a constant fight to move forward rather than getting sucked back into all the horrible shit that has happened to me.
I appreciate your point, though, and it means a lot to me that you love my work and took the time to tell me so.
I hate how you can get 20 reviews praising your work and then 1 hater can change everything around. I’ve got those too, I understand, and it sucks. But your stories have so many followers and so much recognition across the fandom that there’s bound to be some hateful comments here and there. Do what I do, and delete those reviews. Your stories are amazing! And they touch on so many psychological subjects that other fanfics only glaze over. I respect that. You’re amazing, never forget!
Fortunately it was a guest review, which means I was able to delete it before people saw it. FFN is so fucking stupid that you can’t delete signed reviews, so at least that person was a coward who left it anonymously.
I’m very thankful for the attention my fics have received, and I do understand that with a certain level of exposure negative reviews are unavoidable. Although tbh I’ve heard from plenty of creators with smaller audiences that the assholes still show up and make their voices heard. It’s just hard to not get stuck on the mean stuff right now, since my personal life is falling apart.
