Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a game that purports to be about the tragedy of a group of child soldiers with precious few years left in their brief and tragic lives that they must cherish. It is actually a game about making said child soldiers waste even more of that time by collecting every pebble in Aionios.
i think more robots should be disabled actually. robots whose bodies keep falling apart and need much more consistent repairs. robots whose bodily upkeep is hard and laborious and exhausting. robots who physically cant do things without help from another individual. robots who are imperfect and dont fit the bill of a flawless machine. i want more of this waiter please bring me more disabled robots
ABSOLUTELY delighted seeing people infodump about their ocs on this post because i made this with the thought of my own oc in mind. we all love giving our characters awesome traits
meet my nopon oc maruru she is goth and sells jewelry to homs colonies for a living. if you want to read more about her theres some info below the line break
Maruru is a goth Nopon - and has been since her earlier teen years - who specializes in artistic craft. Making beads, weaving lace, making necklaces, sewing custom fabrics and clothes, and experimenting with what will be known as the Bionis-equivalent of goth, she loves to indulge in and spread her tastes to the Homs Colonies across the Bionis. She does all she can to help the Homs through the Mechon attacks, organizing imports of goods with Nopon Merchants to Colonies, and makes a profit of her own to make this possible by selling hand-made jewelry that reflects her gothic interests. Despite her efforts and skill, she feels insecure about how much she contributes, having a mellow (and sometimes dramatic) personality to match her persona. Beyond her insecurities she has a large heart, big smile, and a loud, incredible singing voice!
Maruru is 20 years old and lives with her mother in the Frontier Village when not traveling and staying at temporary residencies. Her mother is in her late 50s and disabled. Having used to work at the Pollen Works, her condition couldn't allow her to anymore, and the brief period of unemployment was very troublesome for young Maruru and her mother. Though caring for her condition and finding a new job was a small obstacle, her mother is doing okay with her new job sewing fabrics and clothes on work days and organizing the food storage below the Nopon tree on days where she was able. Maruru was a very young littlepon when this happened- it was her first introduction to struggles with living and how to make things better for others, along with her introduction to fashion and sewing.
Now I Know What You're Wondering-- A Goth Nopon?
I. To Be Goth is to have Left-Leaning Politics.
To find more conflict in the politics of Xenoblade, we must look at the Bionis overall instead of the way a specific race manages their home. The main issue that other nations may or may not concern themselves is the crisis for the Homs their homes being wiped out by the Mechon. The most we can explore is the different races and their living situation, along with how much the Mechon attacks affect them; such as the High Entia's unwillingness to aid the Homs, as they did not want to be involved with something that did not concern them. Additionally, the Nopon, living on the distant back of the Bionis, are completely unaware of the Mechon's plight. Maruru, however, is.
Maruru, to Nopon / Xenoblade standards, is very "politically aware". Her mother is disabled, and had to quit her job to find a different job that wouldn't toll on her physical health as much as her previous within the Pollen Works. The village was able to compensate for her, but it was a troubling transition for her mother (She is doing fine, if you are wondering).
She was also there to witness Riki becoming the Heropon- though opposed to the Heropon title (the idea of using Nopon in debt to exploit for dagerous duties put her off), she found Riki's pursuit and unity with other races to be very important (She had always frequently traveled around Bionis to interact with the Homs, but this inspired her to do it more often).
Most importantly, Maruru also has friends living in Colony 9, a few who she has lost to the Mechon. She finds the inability of the village to do anything to aid them to be incredibly troublesome. If Maruru were to learn Melia was the princess of the High Entia, she'd very much dislike her!
Maruru's own activism consists of teaming up with Nopon merchants to send necessities to the Homs Colonies (along with plenty of gifts for her friend snuck in between), alongside her own personal hand-made crafts as a way to brighten spirits and spread her interests around the colonies….
II. To Be Goth is to like Goth Music
Okay lol there's little I can write about this. There are no established instruments or music in Xenoblade 1 (I generally have not pondered much about the music or instruments that the peoples on Bionis would enjoy. Xenoblade 2 and the bards they had at bars really inspired me…) I have to ponder on a Nopon and Goth Rock fusion. lol. But just trust me when I say it's gonna be cool. I'd imagine most the instruments would be Nopon-made (maybe Maruru took a shot at designing instruments to create something that us readers would associate with the goth sound here on Earth…)
Maruru is in a band-- I am unsure if I want it to be an actual band with like-minded individuals or independently run (the idea of multiple goth Nopon is hilarious to me. Maybe the members could be Homs instead?). Maruru would most likely be a vocalist and/or Nopon-equivalent-of-guitarist.
Character Relations
Mother- Looks up to her greatly. Taught her how to sew, introduced her to the real world. Though she spent a lot of her teen years fighting her mother over her transition into a goth, they eventually found common ground.
Mumkhar- One of the only buyers of her jewelry lol. He has that frequent customer discount.
Riki- Watched him become Heropon. When he set off with his sidekicks, she was very moved at the large number of Homs at the village. She wishes she could've gone with them. If only she knew how to fight…
