How To: A Guide to Support
This is just my personal opinion however support really one of if not the most vital role in the game. As a support it's pretty easy to feel like you're not making a difference, or that you can't carry, but really you are and you can.
With the changes to the league ranked system by implementing auto-fill, there is always going to be a time when you have to support. I don't know how many times I've seen this spammed into chat "I don't know how to support" "support sucks" or any other variation of those. Â This quick guide is here to help you become a better support, or at least give you some tips so you're not stuck feeling overwhelmed by not knowing what to do.
While it's great to see brand, Malzahar, Annie, Lux and every other traditionally mid APC in the bot lane, there's a real advantage to having *actual supports in your lane. (* Champions that are traditionally meant to be played support like Leona, Janna, Sona) The next time you're auto-filled support, no matter who you're playing. These tips will help you survive and maybe even begin to enjoy playing support!
Tip #1 - Â Ward, Ward, Ward! As obvious as this one seems, you HAVE to ward. Vision is the #1 key to success in league. Also, it's not about just putting wards down... It's about where you place them too. As the support, it is your job to always have the river warded especially if your carry is pushing. If your lane is being pushed there is no real chance of a river gank. That being said, Dragon should still be warded and if their support is poking you from the lane bush, maybe you should pop a ward in there too.
You should keep vision on dragon with pinks. Take out their wards. Dragon is a strong objective, especially early on in the game. The last thing you want to do is give the enemy team a free drake because it wasn't warded. If you can't afford pinks because you're losing lane really badly, at least keep it warded with your trinket or a regular ward.
Of course once you get to the point where you have your sight stone and you switch to a sweeper trinket, try to keep tabs on where the enemy has been warding and clear it out as soon as you can (as long as it's safe). Do not risk your life to clear a ward that you can take more safely in 30 seconds from now.
For an in-depth look on where to put your wards or look out for my upcoming article (Should be posted by the end of March, 2017) How To: A Guide to Warding
Tip #2 - Â A Great Defense Is the Best Offence!
You've heard the phrase before, right? (I hope so or else that means i'm getting old) The stronger your defense, the greater your offence! This doesn't mean you have to play naturally tanky champions all day, this just means you need to take the proper precautions. As much as the AP and magic pen runes really come in handy for damage, you should try to leave that to your carry. Your job isn't to get kills, it's to support your carry by keeping them alive! You can't keep someone alive if you're dead. That being said, I always recommend running Armor, Magic Resist, Health, or Movement Speed runes in some sort of combination. If you're squishy, and a lot of supports are, you're typically the focus. You need to stay alive to keep everyone else alive. So run those defense masteries while you're at it!
Another part of defense is knowing when to trade. Don't go commando unless you're duoing with your ADC. Think of yourself like a guardian angel. You're not there to start the fight, you should protect your carry and when he decides it's a good time to initiate, that's when you follow suit. (When playing a champion who's meant to engage, there are exceptions to this rule obviously but try your best to not go too ham)
Stop taking free damage in lane. Watch where you are, you shouldn't be putting yourself in a position to take hits without returning them. Even while playing melee champs like Leona and Alistar, i get it's hard to not take damage against ranged champions, but just try your best to be in a position to protect your carry rather than let the enemy hit you with free poke all lane.
Tip #3 - Don't Play a Champ because they're "OP"
Obviously there are some champs that don't take very much skill *cough yi cough* but a lot of them do. Try out a few support champs in a blind match or a custom match before you take it into ranked. If you've been auto-filled then i get being under pressure. But it is always 100% better to play a champ you know and know you can help with than to be pressured into playing a champ because your team wants you to or because they're ridiculously good at the moment. (Take this one seriously cause I let myself be duped into playing ziggs and i'm butts at him).
Tip #4 - My Last Little Pieces of Advice
Most of these are going to be common sense, but some of us (me) don't have any so let's go down the list:
Don't take the CS. Just don't. That's not for you. How is your carry going to get fed and you know, carry, if you take all of the creeps.
Don't chase if it means leaving your carry alone. Always protect your carry. If you don't they're going to die. Of course the enemy needs to die but let your team take care of that. Your number one priority is to make sure that your carry's make it out of that team fight alive. Don't put your team at a disadvantage because you want a better KDA.
Stop raging. People tend to just stop caring when there's a rager. That or they will start trolling because it's funny. If you want to rage, don't say anything. Mute people and keep playing. Criticizing Jinx because she's behind 10 cs or freaking out because your jungler has been top more than he's been bot is not going to help. You catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar. (In this case, you catch more wins)
Have fun. If you don't like support, that's fine. You don't have to, but if you spend the entire game moping about how you got filled then you're not going to enjoy it and neither is your team. Believe it or not, league is a game and they are meant to be fun!

3 Quick Tips: Reducing Ping/Lag in your online Games
For those of us out there who happen to have either 1) a poopy computer or 2) a poopy web connection (Both if you happen to be like me) then you've experienced the wondrous joy that is lag! For myself personally, I am almost constantly lagging but don't typically plan to stop playing games anytime soon. So that leaves 2 choices: Play with the lag or figure out a way to get rid of it, or at least reduce it. This post is going to cover the top 3 things I've found that reduce lag, for almost every game. Please be aware that I am a windows user, so if you're using a mac then you should just stop now. I mean, really, who games on a MAC? Before you say "I've already deleted all my background apps, etc, etc" or "I don't want to spend money on kill ping" this post isn't going to cover the obvious or try to get you to buy anything, all these tips are completely free and are more than likely new concepts to you.
1) Disabling Windows Aero Effects And Reducing Graphics Settings
I use Windows 7 since I hate the way windows 8 and onwards looks; so windows 8 may not come preinstalled with windows Aero Effects. Though reducing your graphic settings will still work on any windows platform.
So after you've reduced all of your games graphics settings to the lowest and you're still having issues, here is the next step: Reduce your graphics settings directly on your PC.
Right-click Computer
Select Properties
Select Advanced System Settings
Select the Advanced tab
Click Settings under Performance
Select the Adjust for best performance radial
2) Use Your Handy Dandy Task Manager and Set Your Game To High Priority
If you're anything like me, you live in your task manager. Mostly exiting out of background programs that don't necessarily show up right in front of you. Here's a really quick trick to fixing your ping in almost every game I've tried. This won't fix it 100% but there will be a noticeable difference. Please make sure your game is loaded before doing this as if your screen closes momentarily while loading (like League of Legends does) it will sometimes default back to normal. So do this after your game has loaded.
1. Open your Task Manager 2. Click the Processes tab 3. Find your game (eg/ LeagueofLegendsClient.exe) 4. Right-click and select Set Priority 5. Select High Priority
Please keep in mind that when you log out or close the game, you will need to re-do this. As previously mentioned, it defaults back to normal.
3) Play Around In the Control Panel
Now we're getting into the fun stuff. I've almost contemplated adding in some photos to show you this but  I have faith that you are smart enough to follow me on this.
1. Open up your Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center 2. Click on your internet connection. If you use a wired connection the default is ethernet 3. Go to Properties then press Configure 4. Open the Advanced tab 5. Scroll down (in the property section) until you find Interrupt Moderation 6. Set it to Disabled
If you have any other suggestions about fixing lag comment below and let us know.Â

OBS Â Studio and Twitch Changes
Generally speaking leading the pack, is more important than falling into the middle, especially when it comes to online streaming. Streaming is ever changing and the bar is only getting higher. OBS (Open Broadcast Software) has come up with OBS Studio, an in progress streaming software program that has high hopes. OBS has been innovative but recognizes the need to continue pushing the boundary. This is good news and the choice to move between two programs is more versatile. I'll explain a few details.
As a Mac user, Iâve always believed that there are key components that have made mac sold over windows products and vise versa, and I believe that the difference between the current and OBS studio options arenât much different. OBS Studio allows you to create a source (such as a text box that says âRecent follower; ___â and be able to add it to every scene you create without re-doing anything. It will be one of the options you can select without filling in your preferences over and over again. Sure you can duplicate a scene to save time, but if youâre like me you want specific sources only on each scene. Much of what Iâve found Studio to be better at is just how any given task is done. I will link you to the specific one I believe is valuable, but OBS Studio can be installed with the plugin that allows you to displays streamer oriented twitch alerts such as ones that track your followers, donations (things that constantly are changing). This version will have most of what youâll need to start with. There is a transition between slides setup which is studio mode which allows you to edit a scene before displaying it. You are able to view both at once, and you can keep flipping back at forth by just hitting the transition button over and over again, for those who transition back and forth between two slides for in and out of game. At first, I do believe there is a period of getting used to it, but I find my usual streaming setup is easy. Many of these things are why OBS is a great product to use in general in comparison with other programs.
One thing that puts OBS ahead of the curve is the ease of changing between streams AKA profiles (such as if I wanted to stream my personal one, or use Rangers Gaming), but one mission that OBSâ creators have with Studio is to allow streamers to stream to 2 or more twitch (or other) streams at once. For instance, I could be live on twitch.tv/j3xrg AND twitch.tv/rangersgaming, or I could even be live on twitch, and MLG (youtube as well I think?). Those who have used XSPLIT know of this advantage currently over OBS and in the past has been a reason Iâve used XSPLIT. The green screen setup XSPLIT has currently long term however requires an extra window (full screened), and can be more of a process. There are also other things that can make streaming better/easier such as Twitch Alerts
What else is new? Stream delay changes. Now, many people have noticed that huge streamers seemingly have less of a delay over the years compared to new streamers. Now that may not change entirely, but that brings up some Twitch specific changes. Twitch used to only allow their streamer delay option to be changed if you fit a specific category (I think subs, but it may have just been a follower amount/sponsorship). Now, all streamers can remove the delay, but be warned: Stream delay (which they say on the option) being removed does pose some problems. This may make streaming a bit more intensive on your CPU, but also some viewers may experience more lag with the higher level of uploading. This could slowly over time be less of an issue, but streamers who are strapped for cash and just starting will likely be unable to do this. Also, keep in mind that it isnât necessarily a positive thing for viewers to turn on until your stream fits the category that allows users with poor internet to turn down the quality. New streamers and old streamers all deal with similar issues, but there are still those key components. All streamers need to communicate when they are streaming and consistently alert people, so they need a set structure and expectations.
A large expectation with communication has gained an improvement through twitch itself (though it is not perfect).  You can now tweet out and create statusâs via twitch itself. This will appear on your twitch for your viewers to see on twitch, but you can also choose to post it to twitter. I will say this, that you will want to post a few times to see how it appears on twitter, and even consider using twitter first to ensure you know what will fit. It will use eclipses (âŚ) and not post all of your status from twitch to twitter if it is too long. The advantage? You can post a longer twitter status, and just make sure a key point is in the part that goes to twitter, then your viewers can dig deeper. Disadvantage, I find that I may be using twitter to see what will fit first, or sometimes only post on the status on twitch itself, so there may not be as much time saving as I first thought about.
Bottom line, there are new things going on, and only you can decide how your stream looks, works, and how you communicate and interact with your viewers. Remember, unless you are the best at the game, an amazingly comedic genius, super attractive, youâre going to need to put in a real effort, but itâs open to you what makes your stream truly attractive to viewers.
Good luck in the Wonderful World of Twitch, and stay in the know. -J3 out.

The Graphics Technology of Fallout 4
The hardware we play games on continues to advance at a rapid pace with exciting new graphics features. Our Creation Engine has evolved to incorporate this new technology in order to empower the artists and designers at Bethesda Game Studios to create an immersive new world. The tech team here is closely aligned with the art team, and together we carefully selected each individual feature based on specific artistic and performance goals we wanted to achieve in creating this world.
The first thing we did after Skyrim was to enhance the Creation Engineâs graphical core by adding a physically based deferred renderer. This new renderer allows us to add many more dynamic lights to every scene, and paint our surfaces with realistic materials. We want objects and characters in the world to feel tactile and grounded, and a big part of that is ensuring that these materials are distinct â that metal reflects light in a distinct manner from wood, for example.
As always, our world features fully dynamic time of day and weather. To create that volumetric light spilling across the scene (sometimes called âgod raysâ) we worked with our friends at NVIDIA, whoâve we worked with dating back to Morrowindâs cutting-edge water. The technique used here runs on the GPU and leverages hardware tessellation. Itâs beautiful in motion, and it adds atmospheric depth to the irradiated air of the Wasteland. Like all the other features here, weâve made it work great regardless of your platform.
When a rain storm rolls in, our new material system allows the surfaces of the world to get wet, and a new cloth simulation system makes cloth, hair, and vegetation blow in the wind.
The player can go anywhere in the world at any time of day, so we added dynamic post-process techniques that enhance the vibrancy and color of our scenery for maximum emotional impact. Our virtual cameras received a major upgrade as well. Weâre not going to spoil every improvement weâve made, but for those of you who enjoy the technical details, hereâs a sampling of what weâve added to the latest version of the Creation Engine:
⢠Tiled Deferred Lighting ⢠Temporal Anti-Aliasing ⢠Screen Space Reflections ⢠Bokeh Depth of Field ⢠Screen Space Ambient Occlusion ⢠Height Fog ⢠Motion Blur ⢠Filmic Tonemapping ⢠Custom Skin and Hair Shading ⢠Dynamic Dismemberment using Hardware Tessellation ⢠Volumetric Lighting ⢠Gamma Correct Physically Based Shading
If youâre not sure what all of that means, donât worry. Whatâs important is how this technology comes together with the art and gameplay of Fallout 4 to create a dynamic, immersive experience â no matter your gaming system. We pride ourselves in being a highly collaborative team, always balancing graphics, gameplay, art, and performance. We hope that when you get a chance to play the game on November 10, youâll agree.
Generally I prefer to write my own Fallout content for Rangers, however, this guy covered the graphics department far better than I could have hoped for so, read, enjoy, <3 and give us both a follow!! 5 More Days, Oh my God, I cant even. P.s. check out Omegaâs blog he has some amaaaaazing content.
2015 LoL World Championships
October is the month that all League of Legends fans and players enjoy the most. The specific month holds a climactic tournament that defines each season: Worlds. This event placed in four regions of Europe. The Group Stages took place in Paris, France. After two weeks in Paris, they transferred to London, England for the Quarterfinals. Knockout Stages started, where teams would face each other off in a Best of Five. Once the Quarterfinals were complete, Semifinals came the following week in Belgiumâs Brussels. The last two teams that remain were to travel to Berlin, Germany for the Finals, competing to win the one million US dollars and the Summonerâs Cup they were to earn as the 2015 World Champion team.
As we reached the 2015 World Championship, the sixteen groups that reigned as the top two/three victors in Regionals attended this month-long event. Three teams from North America, Europe, Korea, and China qualify, while two from Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau qualify. Two teams from International Wildcard regions also qualify.
Teams Who Attended Worlds
The North American teams that attended Worlds were Team SoloMid(TSM), Counter Logic Gaming(CLG), and Cloud9(C9), who all failed to make it past the final week of the Group Stages.
The European teams were H2k-Gaming(H2K), Fnatic(FNC), and Origen(OG). H2K didnât make it past the final week of the Group Stages and gave their spot in the Quarterfinals to LPL team, Edward Gaming, who battled Fnatic and lost which made FNC advance to the Semifinals for the third time. Fnaticâs victory was short-lived though, being that they lost the Best of Five matchup in the Semis. Origen also had a rough time in the Group Stages, going four/two by the win to loss ratio just like Fnatic. They made the second and final seed in the Group Stages and fought the LMS Flash Wolves to prove their worth. Succeeding, they also take place in the Semifinals, but then lose to the currently undefeated SKTelecom T1.
The Korean teams became known as SKTelecom T1(SKT), KOO Tigers(KOO), and KT Rolster(KT). KT made it as far as the Quarterfinals, where they had to face their Korean companions, KOO. They attempted to put up a fight in the Best of Five, but went one/three in the matchup and had to leave the tournament. SKT and KOO both had a very strong season and proved their superiority to the EU LCS teams, Fnatic and Origen. Both teams advanced to the Finals to battle head-to-head for the Summoner's Cup.
In the LPL, the Chinese teams were LDG Gaming(LGD), Edward Gaming(EDG), and Invictus Gaming(IG). LGD and Invictus Gaming both were left in the dust during the second week of the Group Stages with only EDG left to compete. Unfortunately, they only made it as far as the Quarterfinals, where they got stomped by Fnatic.
Two teams from Taiwan made it to the Quarterfinals. They were known as the ahq e-Sports Club(AHQ) and the Flash Wolves(FW). Both teams had an exceptional time in the Group Stages but lost their footing during the Quarterfinals.
Lastly, the International Wildcard teams were the Bangkok Titans(BKT) from Thailand and Brazilian team, paiN Gaming(PNG). Sadly, both of these teams underperformed during their stay in the Group Stages and failed to advance.
Five Impact Players
There were large amounts of evidence that the teams did really well this year, being only Season Five in League of Legends. For sure though, there are at least five players that proved their worth in the tournament. Those players are Febiven, Faker, AN, Smeb, and Niels. They may not have been the most powerful of their teams, but they proved a lot during the course of Worlds.
Fabian âFebivenâ Diepstraten is the Mid Laner for Fnatic. Personally, heâs 19 years old and is from the Netherlands. This was his first year at Worlds. Formerly, Febiven was in Cloud 9 Eclipse, a Challenger Series team. Afterwards, he joined H2K, where they underperformed and failed to make it to Worlds. On January 7th, 2015, H2k-Gaming announced Febivenâs departure. Since Fnatic was rebuilding their team at the time, they called on Febiven for his place in the mid lane. In Worlds, he played four Champions; Viktor, Orianna, Azir, and LeBlanc each three times over the course of his twelve games.
Lee âFakerâ Sang-hyeok is the Mid Laner for SKTelecom T1. His life has been spent in South Korea as a 19 year-old. Faker is known as the best Mid Laner in the World, but this season has been a questionable one. When Faker played in Worlds, he played non-meta Champions such as Ryze, Kassadin, and Olaf. His other two were Lulu and Azir, which were more popular.
Chou âANâ Chun An is the AD Carry for ahq e-Sports Club and formerly known as OhReaL. AN is 21 years old and lives in Taiwan. His played Champions were Kalista, Jinx, and Tristana. Playing Jinx was one of his top priorities in Worlds. His Support, Albis, would play Tahm Kench when he had the chance, which made the two almost unstoppable.
Song âSmebâ Kyung-ho is the Top Laner for KOO Tigers. Heâs 20 years old and is from South Korea, just like his Korean brother-in-arms, Faker. Smeb was the powerful frontline in the Semifinals that faced off against one of his best friends from Fnatic, Reignover. He had a large pool of Champions that he chose for Worlds. He played Fiora, Darius, Riven, Gnar, Hecarim, Lulu, and Kennen. As a fact, he played Fiora seven of seventeen games.
Jesper âNielsâ Svenningsen is the AD Carry for Origen. He is from Denmark, and is only 17 years old. Like Febiven, he is also a rookie when it comes to Worlds. He performed well, showing his months of growth. He chose Kalista, Sivir, Jinx, KogâMaw, and Tristana to accompany him at Worlds.
10 Most Picked/Banned Champions
As far as Champions, 74 of the 127 of them were used over the course of Worlds. They always have the more popular characters to use though due to the Meta creating ones more powerful than others. Ten of the Champions with the highest pick/ban percentage are: Gangplank at 98.6%, Mordekaiser at 97.3%, Elise at 95.9%, Lulu at 95.9%, RekâSai at 78.1%, Darius at 72.6%, Kalista at 72.6%, Azir at 57.5%, Thresh at 49.3%, and Alistar at 46.6%.
Two-Time Champions
The battle between SKT and the KOO Tigers was intense. Favors were in the hands of SKTelecom, unfortunately. Before battling KOO, they were undefeated with a perfect twelve games. The day of Best of Five, and the votes from the viewers were clear on who they thought was to win; 82% thought SKT, and 18% thought KOO. No matter what though, a Korean team would be holding the Summonerâs Cup. The first game played out, and SKT slaughtered KOO. It didnât look good. Usually, the first game sets the mood for the following others. For example, when Fnatic and Origen lost their first games of the Semis, they did worse the other two games than their first game, but not KOO. The second game, they were even in kills, but SKT slowly ate at the map and broke KOO Tigerâs Nexus once more. One more game, and SKTelecom T1 would claim their undefeated victory at 14-0. KOO was hanging on by a thread, but they were determined. Game three, and they snapped, skirmishing kills on all sides of the map and forcing their enemyâs Nexus to break for the first time of the tournament. Due to this, the unexpected fourth game was forced to be started, but this time SKT werenât to be fooled. They flattened the chances of KOO winning the fourth game. SKT may have won, and became the first team to win two Championships, but they didnât win undefeated, which is the pride KOO will hold. "Two teams have risen above their peers. Ten warriors have laid claim to the Summonerâs Cup. Five champions will etch their names in history. The 2015 World Championship concludes on October 31st. Watch them become legends." Riot Games said as a description to the following video.
Are you prepared for Halloween? Carving any Fallout-themed pumpkins? Send me a message if you want me to reblog your kick-ass pumpkin or post it directly and tag you. ;)

New Battleborn Multiplayer Mode âCaptureâ Revealed!
Group Stage - Week 2 FNC vs. AHQ
I believe this is a have-to-see showing. If Fnatic had lost this, they would have most likely needed to face SKT rather than EDG. The play was a major difference in their position of the tournament.
Thanks to Riot Games for sharing our the video!
