Also one of the costumes in my lineup! I figured I could sing it in a couple contests and put those years I was made to do choir to good use.

“Maybe you should have dressed up. It would have caught my attention for sure.” And she feels the heat rise in her cheeks because she didn’t mean to make it seem like she hadn’t already been looking- but she also hadn’t. Not really.

“You’re just as sweet as I remember.” And she knows she’s definitely blushing now and rubs at her arm for comfort.

“Oh my sister does that. You both have a lot in common.” She laughs.

“I think I’m going to see if I can help with anything. Maybe we’ll bump into each other again?”

“Maybe I should have. Would have made things a bit more interesting for sure.” He laughed a little, loving the suggestion. Rhett blushed at being called sweet. “Yeah, I.. I try.” A shrug. A nod. “Yeah, we do.” He was unable to tell what she had meant by that.

A smile appeared on his face. “Actually, I think I’m going to head out. I hope you have a great rest of your evening, though.”

“I hear some campaigns get really into it like that. Maybe we’ll end up being similar. I know I’d help with cost, but maybe I’m getting a bit ahead of myself.”

‘You and Charlie should really team up. I can’t imagine the things you’d both create. “

Beatrice isn’t sure how well she’ll do staying up to the wee hours but it isn’t something she’s against trying. “:Sure. That’s solid enough of an idea to pitch out to people.”

“So, how long have you been in Memphis?”

“Some campaigns are, and some people actually like going to conventions dressed as their DnD characters. It’s cool to see. Honestly, I’d love to see us in some sort of costume. Doesn’t have to be anything fancy. You’re fine, I like your ideas. And I do costumes for a living, so it’s not like we gotta pay someone else.”

“Charlie and I are friends, so we could definitely kick some ass if we teamed up together.”

He smiles up at her. “We can always work other details out if we need to with whomever we get to join our campaign. I think both our schedules are pretty flexible.” “I’ve lived in Memphis all my life almost. I moved away for college. Moved back after to help take care of my granny.”

“I think we’re supposed to be more confident to seem tempting or something.” Marley shrugged, she’d never been confident. It would be something she works on forever.

“Hey, you’ll be okay. You’re handsome and smart and that’s a lot for some people.” She places a hand gently on his arm.

“Do you think they’ll be confessing their love or something?”

“Are we? I know I’m not exuding the most confidence. It mostly comes to me when I’m in costume.” He chuckles and puts his hand on hers for just a moment.

“Thanks. You know, you’re beautiful and smart. And you’re fun to be around! Any person would be lucky to have you.” Rhett smiles at her before removing his hand.

With a shake of his head, the smile remains. “Nah. It’s about DnD, I think.”

“I did. It was a lot of fun and she’s great! I just think I could find enough people that would want to start something new up. I wanted to ask you before reaching out to anyone else.”

“I’m unavailable during the day during the week and the only week night I’m not available is Tuesday. Saturday morning I teach a dance class and would cut into Charlie’s game.”

“I’m glad. Well, I know for sure that I’m in! Maybe it will get myself in gear to do a DnD related cosplay at some point this year.”

“That’s a schedule I can definitely work around. I’d likely want to do something in the evenings around six or seven so we’re not going clear til the wee hours of the morning unless everyone wants to.”

I have seen men who could probably pick me up and throw me, if they really wanted to, rock out to Taylor Swift. After that, any and all ability to determine what someone listens to, and the judgement related to it, went out the window.

Pick me up and throw me guys listening to Taylor Swift? I honestly find that pretty comforting, even if I’m not a Swiftie myself. I tend not to judge on music taste after I have been friends with a pretty chill person who listens to death metal.

No judgement I was just really confused as to why you’d be doing things in costume, but that definitely makes sense. I’m vaguely aware of what cosplaying is. That’s really cool, though.

I’m lucky to be doing my dream job! I’m just imagining doing the experiment in costume on an instagram live or something. Just make a show out of it.

“Hey there!” She smiles at Rhett, shifting on her feet nervously. “I do. I wanted to talk to you about DnD. Maybe we could look into you being the dungeon master and starting a campaign. I know you mentioned wanting to dip your feet in the water.”

“I’m guessing you liked it when you tried it with Charlie? That’s awesome!” Rhett gives he a big smile. “Yeah, I still do if you and other people are interested! I can read up on the current rules and such.” A nod. “When were you looking to start? I’m pretty much up for any time.”

“Anyone catching your eye?” Marley looked around before going back to getting herself a hot chocolate. Thankful she is not yet in the spotlight and having to meet someone new.

“This is the coffee shop I work at actually. Only reason why I came, the bosses were persistent.” And she laughs.

“I’ve seen a couple people that might be my type, but I’m not sure I’m anyone’s type out of people here.” He chuckled, grabbing himself a coffee and being sort of thankful no one was calling him over to the tables. “I’m actually pretty nervous.” Rhett admitted, blushing just a little.

“Well, at least they’re looking out for you. I promised a friend I’d be here. They wanted to talk about something.”

He’d promised her he showed up, so he started to look for her. Rhett took his second drink and moved around the venue. Once he spotted Beatrice, he grinned and sat beside her.

“Hey, I read you wanted to talk to me.”

Marley is pulled out of her thoughts when someone approaches the beverage table. “Oh, you’re fine.” And she means it and flashes a smile towards them.

“Oh, Rhett! I know you.” She grins even wider and opens her arms to hug him.

“How are you? We were just talking.”

“Marley, hi! Glad to know it was you that I almost bumped into.” Rhett pulled her into a warm hug. He was very happy to see her and know that there was someone at the function that he had known outside of social media.

“I’m doing great. A little nervous, but great. How are you?”

Like Baby Shark. I’m now tempted to ask my mom what song I was obsessed with when I was kid, cos I genuinely don’t know.

Everybody’s got a water buffalo, yours is fast but mine is slow where we got them I don’t know, but everybody’s got a water buffalo.

Anyway… The asparagus guy is a mood, genuinely. Especially in The Song of the Cebu.

I don’t remember which song I was obsessed with, either. Maybe I’m just getting old or it was before I started remembering. He totally was a mood. I remember watching and being like ‘Dude, same’.
