after having talked to sasha about rhona and her feelings, rebecca had sworn herself to get her shit together and not feed into the attraction she obviously felt for the assistant. but the brunette was not making it very easy for her. standing only a few feet away from each other, the two women locked eyes. it felt like eternity until rhona spoke again and rebecca was reminded that she was indeed still at work. trying to hide it as best as she could, she cleared her throat silently. âevery day in here is particularly exhausting, you should get used to that. I am serious, go home and get some rest or go to a bar and get a drink, otherwise this place drives you mad.âÂ
For a moment, Rhona kept quiet once more, her eyes never leaving Rebeccaâs. She didnât know what it was, but the other had a sort of energy around her that intrigued the hitwoman. It was confident, dominant, and it was something that sparked a certain sense of attraction to her. Sure, she was technically still a possible target, but even Rhona had needs and desires. And she had to get close to her one way or another⌠âIâll tell you what, Iâll go get a drink â on the condition that you join me.â

âOoh, youâre fun when youâre sassy,â She leant against the bar top and lazily rested the side of her face on her forearm, still upright but definitely on an angle. Letting out a loud laugh at Rhonaâs recounting, Erica gave the woman a crooked grin. âWe canât all be geniuses, Rhona. Idiots provide some great entertainment for the rest of us.â She paused for a moment, looking down at her glass in thought, before grabbing it and taking a swig. Sheâd already had plenty, but a little more couldnât hurt.
âIf heâs got jobs that need doing, send him my way. I could use the excitement.â She was half-joking, and it definitely wasnât the alcohol talking. Having been present for several picturesque scenes in the past with other dangerous friends, Erica wasnât exactly afraid, nor was she morally inclined to condemn itâ in fact, it was quite the opposite. But sheâd never killed anyone. Not yet, at least. Just worked alongside people that did. And when she was younger, sheâd actually quite fancied a sort of vigilante type of lifestyle. Not necessarily being good, of course, she had yet to actually pull that one off. But being someone who wasnât afraid to play dirty to put down or take out worse people than herselfâ that idea had always appealed to her.
âSo, let me guess: that something he wanted you to do was the messy work he couldnât handle. His business gets squared and thereâs no trail back to him, all under the guise of an alliance.â
"Thatâs very true. But they also donât learn! If theyâd at least learn from their stupid mistakes, I wouldnât even say anything. But this was the second time he tried to get me to do some shit for him.â She shook her head then. The second time he had come to her and the second time she had declined it. Only that this time heâd thought heâd had some leverage, which turned out to be absolutely nothing.
âTrust me, you want nothing to do with that guy. There are people you want to do business with, and heâs not one of them.â Of course she took it as a joke, but Rhona still felt like she needed to say what was on her mind in regards to the guy. She was sure he would come a third time to try and get her to do a job for him, and she was equally as sure she would turn him down a third time as well.
âAlways is, Erica, always is,â she simply said. âThis is why I pick and choose my jobs.â

âHave a lot of people proved to you that they can be trusted? Because, in my experience, people have a tendency of doing the exact opposite,â she argued, remembering everyone from her family to her friends to her lovers that had let her down over time. âThat definitely gave you away, youâre not a very good secret agent.â
âNot really,â she said with a shrug. âWhich is why so far I havenât had that many issues yet, since I know who I can and canât trust. Youâre right. There are too many out there who want you to believe you can trust them and really thatâs not the case at all.â So many people had tried to get Rhona to trust them, and almost all of them had failed. Really, there were only a handful of people she actually knew she could rely on. âOr maybe I just want you to believe Iâm a secret agent. You know. Just for the kick of it.â

when rebecca looked up from her laptop after what felt like hours, she had expected to see every other office dark and lonely. but she noticed that the desk lamp at the assistantâs desk was still lit up. without giving it a second thought, she got up and made her way over to the brunette sitting behind it. just because she pulled an all-nighter (because truthfully there was nothing waiting for her at home) didnât mean, that the assistant had to stay, too. rhona was new and she was probably just trying to do the right thing, so rebecca decided to redeem the other woman and send her home. âyou can and I want you to.â she simply replied to the brunetteâs comment. âyou should get some sleep, I need you to be well rested tomorrow.â the lawyer didnât let it show that she was still attracted to the other and pretended that the tension that had been going on between them earlier this week had never been there.Â
âI donât need a lot of sleep,â she said simply, getting up from her chair to walk around the desk to be somewhat on eye level with the other woman. With somewhat meaning that she was still a fair bit shorter than Rebecca and still had to look up at her, despite the fact that she was wearing heels. Leaning against her desk, her hazel eyes looked up at her, making contact with green ones, keeping quiet for a moment. A small smirk then tugged at the corners of her lips. âWhy, is there something particularly exhausting you need me to do tomorrow?â

Mireya: how dare you play the friend card
Mireya: why are you so curious tho??!
Rhona: took us a while to get here, might as well play the card
Rhona: because I don't have a sex life of my own currently, let me live through your imaginary one đ
10pm. Truthfully, anyone else probably had something better to do on a Friday night than to sit around at the office, pretending to do paperwork. She had already completed her tasks for the day, but Rebecca was still in the office. Her mission was still to keep an eye on the other, to plan when it was best to strike. No, she was still not sure whether the redhead deserved to have her after her, Rhona was still trying to determine that. Her hazel eyes finally looked up when she heard heels clicking on the floor, announcing the redheadâs approach. âIf youâre going to ask me why Iâm still here â Iâm not leaving until you are.â

âWell, not many people get that. Arenât you glad you have me, now?â She shrugged once again, finally noticing the slight slur. Oh. She had, indeed, âhad quite a lotâ. Shaking away some of the cloudiness, Erica kept her focus on the conversation, though she avoided asking the question of exactly how much quite a lot was. âSo stupid,â Smirking at the thought of someone attempting to use Rhona, a thought which was straight up ridiculous to her, she also allowed herself a chuckle. âPlease tell me you got to hit him after that. Was he upset?â
âSo glad.â She exaggerated the tone on the sentiment just slightly, slipping a bit into her sarcastic nature. Her brows were rising when Erica noticed just how stupid it was for someone else to try and use her. She had had it multiple times before that people just wouldnât get that she was better by herself and that they also wouldnât accept him. âOf course he was upset. Told me that if I wasnât with him, I was against him. I told him that might as well be. He tried throwing a punch then, but he ended up on the ground.â She shrugged. âStupid people.â
mireyacortezâ.
âYouâre still going,â she grinned, her tone sing-songy. Having Rhona with her was instrumental to her attendance of the Black and White Party. âNo, I canât.â Things were already weird between them. âOlivia doesnât think that going out like this is a good idea, but if you come with me then I will be safe. Plus, we can have some fun!â Mireya explained her plan with hope that Rhona would go along with it. They had gotten closer over the past months, she appreciated Rhonaâs friendship despite the circumstances that brought them together. âHow about this?â She held up yet another black ensemble for Rhonaâs opinion, completely ignoring her protests. âDo you even own anything white?â Huffing, Mireya continued digging around in Rhonaâs closet.
She sighed. There was part of her that knew Mireya would be excited to go and it would probably be good for her too. After all, Mireya barely had the chance to properly go out with there always being a threat to her safety. Part of Rhona was even inclined to consider going for exactly that reason. Mireya seemed so excited and they had become friends over the past few weeks. And a friend would suck it up every now and again to make sure her friend had a good time, right? âFine,â she finally said begrudgingly. Then, a single brow was rising in amusement. âDo I look like I own anything white?â
callmylifewrightâ.
âI know that itâs a surefire way to get yourself backstabbed,â Erica scoffed, making a face at Rhona and shrugging back. âA enemy is an enemy, no matter the way you look at it. Unless itâs beneficial to you, I say no teaming up with anyone.â
After a momentâs thought, gazing off into space, she glanced back at the other woman. âHow did we get onto this topic, again? I havenât drunk that much, have I?â
âPrecisely what I meant with that,â she said, taking a sip of her drink. Rhona was better by herself, she worked better that way. She didnât need anyone telling her what to do and she sure didnât need anyone trying to tell her how to handle whatever she was working on.
âYou had quite a lot,â she chuckled. âBut I was just telling you how someone tried using a mutual enemy as leverage to get me to do something for him. I told him to shove it.â
islawilsonâ.
âI guess Iâm more cynical than you are then. I donât think everyoneâs out to get me, Iâm not that self-centered, but I also think most people canât be trusted,â she explained. Isla couldnât help but chuckle at the womanâs crypticness. âOh, really? Are you a spy or something? Secret agent?â
âI only trust people who prove to me that they can be trusted,â Rhona said simply, shrugging. A chuckle left her in response to the otherâs game of question and answer. âEven if I was â Iâd have to kill you if I told you.â

The smirk kept playing on her lips after Rebecca had left the file room. Perhaps this was going to be easier than expected. Though Rhona had to admit, the other was extremely attractive. She was taller and had a certain aura around her that intrigued the hitwoman. Still, she now had to focus on finding the files that Rebecca had asked her for. In turn, finding and collecting the files took her a few hours until she had them all (yes, she had made sure she hadnât missed any) and made her way to the womanâs office, entering a moment later. âHere are the files you asked for,â she said, acting completely as if nothing happened a few hours prior. âWhere would you like me to put them?â
rebecca was taking a sip of her coffee when a knock on the door made her look up and see rhona walk into her office with a box of files. the redhead had been completely absorbed in another case, so she didnât really look at the other woman. âjust put them down here.â she pointed her left hand to the floor next to her desk, at the same time typing away on her laptop. âthank you, I will let you know if I need anything else.â the lawyer shot the brunette a quick smile, trying not to look at her for too long so it wouldnât get awkward again.Â
