Ive seen people be like in modern fantasy like "oh the pritagonists can just look up spells on their phone how do you solve that"
Imma be honest most people who go on recipe websites and book every recipe they see don't even use them lmao why would with be different
Given how terrible most recipe websites are i can only imagine how bad spell websites would be
Having to navigate someone's entire life story of how they became a witch in order to get to the part where they actually talk about the gods-damned banishing ritual
the number of 'easy 3 step spell to fly' that at best do nothing, and have a good chance of doing something very bad to you is non zero
Three words "BuzzFeed Spell Hacks"
five minute witchcrafts
Can not emphasize enough that there are IRL articles about spells and witchcraft that read like that. It would not be that much of a stretch to go full recipe blogger.
Me in the dungeon, typing into Google: "How to cast a light spell"
Remembering that time I waded through "This is my family's super-secret can't-miss light spell! When my grandmother was a child in Lithuania, she had a pet pony named Brambles" only for the spell to call for six candles and a bottle of holy lighter fluid

Me in the dungeon, typing into Google: "reddit how to cast a light spell"
Trying to figure out if the "moon fed rosemary" is really an important part of the spell or if regular rosemary will work and the author is just trying to get me to spend $19.99 plus shipping

Do never let others tell you that it’s dangerous to have intimate bonds with land spirits.
More info on this matter
If you are a pagan devoted to a deity, please live.
Continue writing about them, please keep saying their names. Please keep worshiping them. If you can’t find the strength within yourself to live for yourself, please try to live for them.
I know it’s getting scary. I think it’s going to get scarier. But please, if nothing else. Live.
Thousands of years, hundreds of genocides and crusades and decimation of culture, and yet somehow my Lords still have followers. Somehow I’ve found them. Somehow these names still have meaning. Through all of us they still remain.
Despite the efforts of centuries of suppression and control, My Lord is still alive, because I am alive.
In our fringe little cults, even when we must whisper because we cannot scream.
and maybe one day we’ll be free to frolic in fields or dance in forests while we chant without fear.
but for now, just live. Please.
What the Fuck Am I Doing? Tarot spread
(Please excuse the poor editing I did this on my phone)
1) What should I be focusing on?
What needs to be done that I am not/cannot seem to focus on? What is my goal? What should I be doing?
2) What am I thinking about instead?
What's distracting me? What is keeping my attention away from what I need to do?
3) Why is it distracting me?
Extra cards optional, pull as many as you need to figure out the root of the problem
4) How do I refocus?
What do I do to get rid of this block? How do I move past the distraction? How do I solve the root issue of the distraction? Again, pull as many as you need.
Herbs to Avoid During Pregnancy
If you’re looking at this for a list of herbs to avoid while you’re pregnant, so as not to risk hurting the fetus and ensuing baby, then you should be avoiding these herbs if you’re trying to become pregnant too. Studies show that 30% to 50% of all fertilized eggs are lost before a pregnancy is actually established, and the woman never even knows about it. Of known pregnancies, 10% to 20% end in miscarriage. So, it’s important if you’re trying to have a baby, to do everything possible not to contribute to those numbers.
So, with no further ado, these are the herbs to avoid if you are now, or are trying to become pregnant.
Saw Palmetto
Goldenseal
Donq Quai (used in combination with other herbs to induce miscarriage)
Ephedra
Yohimbe
Pay D’Arco
Passion Flower
Black Cohosh (used in combination with other herbs to induce miscarriage)
Blue Cohosh (used in combination with other herbs to induce miscarriage)
Chamomile (roman)
Pennyroyal
Ginseng
Evening Primrose
Feverfew
Kava Kava
Aloe
Valerian
Rosemary (in amounts greater than normally found in food)
Yarrow
Licorice
Angelica (used in combination with other herbs to induce miscarriage)
Lovage
Mistletoe
Myrrh
Sage
Thyme (in amounts greater than normally found in food )
Tumeric
Motherwort
Also, while you (hopefully) don’t ever ingest known poisonous herbs, I’d also advise not handling them while pregnant as some things can be absorbed through your skin. Not a lot, but better safe than sorry. These are herbs that are listed by the USDA as Unsafe or Potentially Unsafe for use during pregnancy.
mugwort and skullcap should be avoided, too. both may cause miscarriage.
Rue should also be avoided! As it also causes skin irritation if broken leaves touch skin, as well as potentially inducing a miscarriage, I recommend avoiding it altogether. Don’t touch it, don’t ingest it.
Friendly reminder to all witches (and especially newer practitioners) that it's a good idea to include the basic mechanics of curses and other baneful magic in your studies.
EVEN IF YOU NEVER INTEND TO USE THEM.
The choice of whether to cast baneful magic is yours and yours alone, but you should still know how it works and what types of spells are out there.
While protection and warding magic are all well and good, certain magical countermeasures like bindings and turning spells may be considered baneful by some practitioners. Despite this, you may need to employ them proactively or reactively as a matter of defense.
The chances are very low that you'll ever find yourself in a situation where someone uses baneful magic on you or someone you know, but if that should happen, you need to know how to recognize it, how to undo it, and how to protect yourself in the future.
If you do not understand the nature of a potential threat, you are not adequately prepared to avoid or combat it.
worship evolves with time. yes, the people who worshipped the gods back in the day had specific offerings to be given. but what is stopping you from giving modern offerings? things around your house? offerings shouldn't have to cost you a fortune. your deities aren't holding you at gunpoint to only receive what you can't easily get. they are a means of showing your love in your day-to-day. so yes!! give your deities candy bars! show them a silly little doodle of them in the corner of your notebook!! make a spotify playlist and play it for them!! dedicate a journal to them!! make a pinterest board and fill it with pins that remind you of them!! the important aspect of these offerings is that you are thinking about your deities. thinking about them and feeling love and devotion to them is a means of offering! you are devoting your energy in these acts!!

A little something for the Halloween season, about the Unseelie Court. Enjoy.
TEXT:
The Seelie love the fairy ring, To step and turn and turn and sing, And every bright and gleaming thing-- But we are otherwise.
The Seelie on their seats of gauze Have bound themselves by ancient laws To slay no mortal without cause-- But we are otherwise.
The Seelie choose to bargain fair, To honor what they once declare, To tweak the proud, the humble spare-- But we are otherwise.
We who hide in slits of night, We red-capped spawn of spit and spite, Whose every breath conveys a blight-- Oh, we are otherwise!
A Kemetic prayer to Bast for Jellie
Hail to You, O' Bast, Who guards the Two Lands! Hail to You, Iryt Ra! You who are swift and cunning, You who strike down enemies and nurture children. I ask that You protect and nurture the cat Jellie as she crosses into Your domain, through the Duat and into Your Hour. I ask that she is kept from harm and given safety and shelter in the cradle of Your arms. Hail to You, O' Bast, Devouring Lady, Mother of my Soul! I offer sweet cheese and fruits. I offer spiced tea and toasted nuts. I offer the ring of my sistrum. May Jellie only know warmth and good food with You, the comfort of the sun. May she hunt on under Your guidance. May she find peace and joy within Your company. Hail to You, O' Bast, Lady of the Ointments, the Knowledge through which death cannot approach too closely! I light this candle and ask that all those who have called this cat family find comfort and peace in this time of her absence. I ask that Your Light guides her to You, and that she remains safely within Your domain. May her name be forever remembered. May her ba be forever nourished through the shrines and images made in her honor. Thus it is done. Dua Bast!
this is free to reblog if you so choose, and i hope whoever reads it can find even a small measure of comfort in it❤️❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂
Dirt
When hoodoo was created, most of the people using it did not have ready access to the best ingredients and often had to hide their practice. Consequently, a lot of what was used had to be things people could obtain. This is why hoodoo uses various roots, sticks, herbs, honey, sugar, and other household supplies readily available. There is no exception for dirt. Different kind of dirt is used for different kind of things but some examples include:
Dirt from the crossroads: used for many things including hexing/cursing, summoning certain spirits, opening roads, etc.
Dirt from a bank: Most commonly used in money work. I swear by bank dirt. It adds so much potency to money workings and every time I have used it I have gotten great results. Could also be used in works to get a loan, get approved for a house, relieve debt, etc.
Dirt from a church: This is usually used for works that have to do with cleansing, healing, or otherwise “holy” matters.
Graveyard dirt: A staple in hoodoo, used for many different things including curses, healing, ancestor work, goofer dust, hot foot powder, etc.
Some of these are examples of things that have been used traditionally and throughout hoodoo’s history. However, all types of folk magick utilize whatever you have.
I have in the past used dirt from a car dealership(to obtain a car), dirt from a red ant farm(defensive/hexing), dirt from a destroyed/abandoned building(defensive/hexing), and dirt from a specific apartment complex I wanted to live in. *not all of these are my ideas, but some of them are*
Folk Magick is and was about using whatever you have around you, and often whatever cost less. Do not ever feel like you can’t do effective, life changing magick with twigs and leaves. You can. Our ancestors did, you can too.
