Come get your gold stars
never ask a Filipino what happened on March 7, 2026
(it got banned because it's classified as a gambling site)
An archivist found a long forgotten 8mm film reel in an old metal box, marked “Philippines 1942”. Thinking it was lost WWII footage, he sent it in to be restored/digitized. When he got the footage back, he found puppies instead (via)
This is so freaking profound. Like, this was before the advent of the personal camera. Not just anyone owned a camera in these days. Cameras were expensive, and so was the film. When you were recording shit, it had to be stuff you were willing to shell out a pretty penny to have preserved. Someone so deeply and profoundly loved these dogs and found joy in them that they decided to preserve them for future generations to see, after these pups are long dead and gone. This camera operator wanted to preserve the joy these dogs brought them and to share it with others. How incredible is that?
Saddest thing ever is reading an academic paper about a threatened or declining species where you can tell the author is really trying to come up with ways the animal could hypothetically be useful to humans in a desperate attempt to get someone to care. Nobody gives a shit about the animals that “don’t affect” us and it seriously breaks my heart
“No I can’t come out tonight I’m sobbing about this entomologist’s heartfelt plea for someone to care about an endangered moth”
if this gets 100,000 notes then i, the worlds greatest space agency will personally shoot donald trump into the sun
200,000 notes to also shoot the republican party leaders who don’t want to fund science into the sun
i am asking once again to help me get donald trump to the sun
there IS actually a reason why seconds and minutes (and degrees for geometry) are in base 60 instead of base 10, and if you want to blame someone for that, blame the very specific way Babylonians counted with their fingers.
The way Babylonians finger-counted was by using their thumb to tap each phalange of the fingers in the same hand the thumb was in, in the order of proximal to distal phalanges and index finger to pinky finger (for a total of 12 taps), and lifting a finger on the other hand every time they counted up to 12, resulting in each finger in the second hand representing 12 taps, with 5 fingers representing... 60 taps.
thats actually spot on.
yes. a gross is defined as 12 dozens.
I might start counting on my fingers like this now
By the way this is really fun information to consider when making non-human species with differently shaped hands.
It is very intuitive to use one's own body as a tool for counting and measuring. How are your non-human's hands set up? How many fingers? Do they have a thumb? How many joints per finger? Etc.
And likewise, an inch is roughly the length of that middle bone on a human forefinger, and a yard of fabric is sometimes measured by holding it up between an outstretched hand and the chin/nose or opposite shoulder. Metric is a more precise tool of measurement, but historically the average person doesn't bother with precision when a quick body-based measurement is good enough. Horses are still measured in hands, and that's literally based on the size of a human hand.
So go have a little fun figuring out how your non-human characters can use their unique body structures to measure and count things! It adds a lot of flavor to the world
Hospital Security Cameras Captured the Unthinkable . Civilians were thrown into the air from the place or buried inside the missile crater.
And now, orders have been issued to evacuate all hospitals, universities, and schools in Gaza.
This is not war، This is extermination. They are erasing every trace of life, every pillar of society, every safe space — and the world is still silent.

GO BABY GO
I love this. I *love* this.
Not only does the child have the rhythm and their part down precisely, but also, they are clearly doing the very-small-child thing of reserving exactly nothing.
Children have to learn not to use all of the force they're capable of, adults mostly never use all of the force they are capable of, but here someone has given this child exactly the opportunity to use all of the force their body can produce, and do it musically.
The glee of that all-out effort in a context where clearly the people around them approve and appreciate their contribution? Amazing.
young kids in music class on drum days are something incredible to watch. beat the shit out of something and make a big sound under the resounding approval of the teacher? best. day. ever.
Reblog to make him lose another 200 billion, like to make him lose 1 billion
He's throwing a tantrum about it, too.
I cannot wait until this man snaps.
Does he really think he can just...cancel a holiday?
Every time I see this quote I realize how poor even very smart people are at looking at the long game and at assessing these things in context.
One of my favourite illustrations of this was in a First Aid class. The instructor was a working paramedic. He asked, “Who here knows the stats on CPR? What percentage of people are saved by CPR outside a hospital?”
I happen to know but I’m trying not to be a TOTAL know it all in this class so I wait. And people guess 50% and he says, “Lower,” and 20% and so forth and eventually I sort of half put up my hand and I guess I had The Face because he eventually looked at me and said, “You know, don’t you.”
“My mom’s a doc,” I said. He gave me a “so say it” gesture and I said, “Four to ten percent depending on your sources.”
Everyone else looked surprised and horrified.
And the paramedic said, “We’re gonna talk a bit about some details of those figures* but first I want to talk about just this: when do you do CPR?”
The class dutifully replies: when someone is unconscious, not breathing, and has no pulse.
“What do we call someone who is unconscious, not breathing, and has no pulse?”
The class tries to figure out what the trick question is so I jump over the long pause and say, “A corpse.”
“Right,” says the paramedic. “Someone who isn’t breathing and has no heartbeat is dead. So what I’m telling you is that with this technique you have a 4-10% chance of raising the dead.”
So no, artists did not stop the Vietnam War from happening with the sheer Power of Art. The forces driving that military intervention were huge, had generations of momentum and are actually pretty damn complicated.
But if you think the mass rejection of the war was as meaningless as a soufflé - well.
Try sitting here for ten seconds and imagining where we’d be if the entire intellectual and artistic drive of the culture had been FOR the war. If everyone thought it was a GREAT IDEA.
What the whole world would look like.
Four-to-ten percent means that ninety to ninety-six percent of the time - more than nine times out of ten - CPR will do nothing, but that one time you’ll be in the company of someone worshipped as an incarnate god.
If you think the artists and performers attacking and showing up people like Donald Trump is meaningless try imagining a version of the world wherein they weren’t there.
(*if you’re curious: those stats count EVERY reported case of CPR, while the effectiveness of it is extremely time-related. With those who have had continuous CPR from the SECOND they went down, the number is actually above 80%. It drops hugely every 30 seconds from then on. When you count ALL cases you count cases where the person has already been down several minutes but a bystander still starts CPR, which affects the stats)
That Vonnegut quote brings this particular moment to mind:
Yes, it’s just a pie. Yes, the pie itself doesn’t do much direct damage in the grand scheme of things. But the pie is resistance, and resistance inspires resistance. Resistance inspires survival. Throwing pies sometimes starts a movement. Throwing pies sometimes saves lives.
And of course, we haven’t spoken about the inherent morality of throwing pies at oppressors in a world where oppressors have outlawed pie throwing. At the very least, pie throwing is a reminder to the oppressors that no matter how much money they have, no matter how much power they have, there are still some people, some moments they can’t control.
I’d rather go out throwing pies than just rolling over and accepting that pie throwing isn’t going to solve anything. Yeah, the pie throwing doesn’t immediately solve the problem, but it doesn’t have to because it’s just a starting point. So throw the damn pie.
So throw the damn pie

It’s a beautiful two hour love story of a strict man finally opening his heart again and then a fifty minute public service announcement to hate the nazis. Brilliant.
You’re not wrong there…
Reblogging this version cuz those two gifs show the sexiest duality a man can have.
