MEDIA LOG 3
For many years media has always been a tool in expressing one’s feelings or one’s beliefs. Media today is so powerful that it can influence a lot of people even with just one article or one video. One of the many kinds of media that is very popular would be the ones found in the internet, most specifically music videos. For some artists, music videos are not only made for the publicity of their new single but also to send a message to the people. The song Roar by Katy Perry is one of my favorites, not only because of the good cinematography but also because of the message behind the song.
This song was written by Katy Perry herself, together with the same people who wrote her other hit songs. Katy Perry wrote this song after her therapy for her divorce with her ex-husband. She explains that she had gone through a lot, and that so many things happened ever since her last single. This is what she used to express herself, which also served as her come back. Some of the creative techniques used in the music video would the symbolism of the tiger as the people who are trying to destroy her, and how Katy Perry defeated and made the tiger fear her instead. The cinematography in the video is very commendable, in the sense that it followed a theme and that it was relevant in explaining the meaning of the song.
There is a possibility that some people might have different interpretations of the song, but they were clearly trying to send a message to the people. In this music video, it is expressed that even though there are some challenges that we come across in life it should never control us, because we are in charge of our lives. It is also promoting women empowerment, in the sense that Katy Perry is showing that not because she is a woman she is not allowed to share and express the things that she wants to say. The roar of Katy Perry in the music video symbolizes everything that she is finally free from everything that is holding her back.
Most of time these hidden messages in music videos or in any other media are being sent out to the people so that the society would be informed or reminded of these certain things. The media is a powerful tool is sharing messages like this since, media can be found almost anywhere. The good thing about this is that they are trying new creative ways of telling these messages which makes it more appealing to the public.
