So far I feel Season 3 has not lived up to the excitement of Season 2. I was so disappointed with Girl Meets Ski Lodge. How can the writers dismiss Maya's feelings like that, claiming they were not genuine? I really find it hard to believe that Maya only liked Lucas to find out if he was a good guy for Riley. If that's true, then explain the campfire scene. I feel that there was more chemistry in Lucas and Maya's almost kiss than in Riley and Lucas's actual kiss on their first date. That was a mere peck that Riley instigated. Also, explain Maya's reaction in Girl Meets Legacy, when Lucas says he won't choose either girl. If she really doesn't like him, why does she look so upset in school the next day?
After watching the Ski Lodge episode, I was starting to feel that the writers had lost their touch. The episode just didn't seem to make sense in context with the events of the previous season. Then I came across someone's post on tumblr, and it made me reconsider. The post suggested that Josh and Riley misinterpreted what Maya has been going through. Riley completely forgot about one of the lessons she learned in season one. People change people. If Texas Lucas can change into Lucas the Good, then why can’t Maya? Just because she isn’t breaking the rules anymore, and is dressing differently doesn’t mean she is losing herself. Instead, I believe that she is trying to find herself. Farkle went through a similar experience in Girl Meets Yearbook and his friends eventually accepted it by the end. Maya has had a lot of personal growth. Riley has played a big part in this, but not in the way she thinks. Riley’s influence hasn’t turned Maya into a copycat version of Riley. Rather she has helped Maya become a better person.
I had forgotten about that lesson just as the kids have themselves. I was taking what they were saying as fact. It wasn’t until I read that post that I started to question things. After all, just because the kids interpret the situation a certain way doesn’t mean they are right. They are still trying to figure out their emotions. How can Riley and Josh, especially, possibly understand how Maya feels? Also, it doesn’t mean the writers agree. They even said that the kids made a mistake in the Ski Lodge episode. So, maybe there is more going on in the show than that is apparent. Maybe the writers have something big up their sleeves that will make up for Ski lodge and clear up the confusion created by the twist in the storyline. I’d like believe that is what will happen and so I will keep hoping that the season will get better as it progresses. Lucaya and Riarkle can still happen!
