Wormwood mentioned!! Yesss!! It was one of my fave beckory fic of all time that Percy wrote!! And actually—I did had a drawing from 2 years ago (and has been stuck in WIP purgatory since rip) that was kinda pretty much inspired by that fic. I planned it to be paired up and be a matching set with this ggy piece I did that same year
legitimately bro I had a phase where I was obsessed and brainrotted for the concept of glitchtrapped beckory, to the point I've tried to explore the interpretation of what rab and tarbell's dynamic could be like a lil further because the idea of their relationship is just sooo fascinating
so i'm gonna take this chance to yap about it since we're here SO
The way I started to interpret the glitchtrap virus' functionality is that it amplifies its host's personality traits to the extreme (and sometimes get it twisted to an extent)
With ggy for example, the virus amplifies one trait and then another depending on rab's target. Greg is smart, so it amped it up to attract someone in need of a mature person to feel understood like Tony
or Greg is playful, so it amped it up to attract someone in need of a friendly companion like Cassie
Now for glitchtrapped Tony...
imagine the virus detecting Tony's obsession for ggy/greg at the time that he got glitchtrapped and cranking that up, so tarbell's existence is to make sure he assists rab in accomplishing whatever he's tasked to do, by any means necessary
BUT the miscalculation is that tarbell's loyalty is not to vanny, not even to glitchtrap—but to rab
if rab decides to double-cross glitchtrap/vanny one day, he wont even hesitate to back him up. Tarbell's ready to backstab the big guy in charge if thats what rab wants
(which parallels the way tony has considered leaving ellis for greg at some point in the book) something the virus picked up on and amp up when tarbell is forming sentience
tarbell becomes very codependent on rab—because rab is his entire purpose but at the same time his very existence becomes a harsh wake up call to tony
because of the concept of tarbell being a positive change in rab as a partner (in every sense of the word if you will)... he somehow attributed traits that tony lacked prior to getting glitchtrapped
tony was too self-absorbed, tarbell was attentive to rab
tony was too tunnel visioned in his own interests, tarbell was invested on whatever his friend rab likes to do
tony was too closed off, tarbell is always an open book around rab
the idea that it took getting glitchtrapped for tony to actually realize he's been a bad friend...because tarbell is doing a better job at it towards rab than he was towards greg/ellis—is sooo juicy to me
Tony's gonna perceive himself as the real bad version in his own eyes and experiences so much self hatred afterwards because somehow his evil murderer alter ego caused more love than his own self. Its messy, its so messsyyyyy and I fucking love breaking down a character like thisss its so much fun!
