The Field Guide Library🌲| Located in Gibbi Point | Library | NoCC | Sims 4 Origin ID: RainNoises | 30x20

🌲| Originally a park ranger station, The Field Guide Library has been repurposed into a research hub open to the public, where Sims can learn about local plants and wildlife.

While the back offices remain in use by active park rangers, the main space has been opened up for public use, with reading areas and research tables.

Visitors can also pick up locally found gems and souvenirs before heading out to explore the Wandering Wilds. | 🌲

🌲| I tried to blend this in with the other ranger station, but make it a functional lot for when Sims other than summer camp-goers are in the area.

The idea was for it to feel like a mix between a library, research station and community hub. Unfortunately, the same swatch as the in-world station isn’t an option, so they’re sisters, not twins ;) | 🌲

world building has become so much better

this is an early wip but i wanted to finally try building with my modifications of the world. and this is way better than the nightmare it was with the initial EA layout. the biggest relief was finally being able to create my own layout, with my own roads and sidewalks.

as you might have noticed, the world's texture is completely made of concrete. it will be totally possible to create an NYC-style neigbourhood for example (or any kind of city). i think that when it is published, it may come in 3 versions: grass, concrete, and a combination of both. so you'll really be able to create any kind of world. except, naturally, a water-based world.

#1 Making interesting sims

In The Sims 2 we had wants and fears, in The Sims 3 we had challenging aspirations and a lot of traits and in The Sims 4 we have… A few weak traits and aspirations that work as tutorials. This is a problem, because, just as in a novel, people usually don’t really care what the characters do. People care much more why characters do the things they do and what the characters think. The plot of the story is only one of the things that can make the novel interesting. If there aren’t any interesting characters, a story can easily get boring. And this is the biggest problem with The Sims 4 in my opinion, but luckily there are ways to make your characters more interesting. This way-to-long-post will tell you mine method below the cut.

#2 How to make your sim’s stories interesting and how to keep yourself playing

My niece, who also is a big fan of the sims, asked me an interesting sims questions last week: ‘What is your goal when playing the sims 4?’. I was embarrassed that I, someone who played more than 1000 hours of the sims 4, couldn’t answer this question right away. Because what is your goal when playing the sims if you don’t do a challenge? The purpose is having fun, but the goal…? After (way too) long thinking and analyzing I realized I don’t have a goal I want to achieve when playing The Sims. But what approach/method do I use in my let’s plays to make The Sims 4 have meaningful gameplay?

The way to make a let’s play interesting for me if it constantly gives you the thought: ‘What will happen next?’. Like watching an exciting movie. What I mean by this and how I accomplish this in my game will I tell you in this post in 3 relatively simple steps.

The base for meaningful gameplay is interesting sims. I have already made a post about this and you can find it here. You don’t have to read that post first, but I do recommend it. I will refer to it one or two times and my example sims Billy, Kaitlyn and Zoe are introduced there.

I remember seeing a post of someone posting their lifespan settings here a few days ago and so I decided to also share mine in case anyone would be interested in my aging settings or wanted to use them in their own saves 😊

The actual setting in MCCC for teens is 336 but in Preteen mod there is a setting where you can input custom lifespan for preteens, that is where I put the 84.

I used to have even longer lifespan setting in the past, but then I was really bummed that I never had any birthdays so I cut it down a bit😂 I love slowburn so I really love having a lot of time with my sims and being able to slowly build their lives without rushing through the days, but still have the ages progress as opposed to playing without aging on.

I only have aging on for the active household, because I never want to miss anything and pregancy is frozen with MCCC unless I am playing the household.

I age up NPCs manually when it makes sense compared to my other households, there are no set rules for that.

One thing I also love to do when I create new households is to add some days through UI cheats to reflect the actual age instead of starting from zero days when the sims are older than the beginning of their lifestage. For example I recently made a teen dad and I wanted him to be 19, not 15, so I added days for him to only have 84 days left until his bday. And his toddler is about 2, so I added 84 days to her age bar as well. It makes aging different, a bit more realistic and varied for me. Especially since I also use the Timelines mod for precise age info.

Another thing I do is that I use the Zodiac mod that assigns astrological signs to your sims and use it as a guideline for the season their birthdays would be in. I don't really have any set rotational rules, because that bores me, so I just switch between my households whenever I feel like it and that messes up their birthday. So what I do is when their birthday starts to show up in the calendar and it is in a wrong season I just make a note of it in my notion spread or on a paper and count the days that I have to play another household until I can come back and celebrate this sim's bday in the appropriate season. I know this is kinda convoluted but it honestly works for me and my playstyle.😄

MCCC (deaderpool) - to be able to set custom lifespan & pregnancy duration settings & the ability to not let pregnancy progress if you aren't currently playing the household

Preteen (adopted by Adeepindigo) - to have preteen lifestage

21 day season (LittleMSSam) - to have 84 day year and 3 week seasons

Timelines (Ellesimsworld) - to be able to set precise ages to sims

Zodiacs (Chingyu) - to add astrological signs and align their birthdays with the appropriate season

I hope this was at least a bit interesting insight in how I play with aging in my save and maybe inspired you to use some of the tips or my lifespan settings in your game. I would love to hear about your lifespan settings too. It is always interesting to me how other simmers tackle this.
