Assessment 3 works
Fake food
Art work 1 This work was a developed response to the work on failure my group and I had previously done using food dye and a cup I stated out wanting to Reggie's on the idea of chance and its random results. The aim of this lemon work was to play sport with fruit, I hit lemons with bats, and three them and took photos of the failure that was spattered lemons. What surprised me was that some lemons didn't break apart, only split. I decided to take it a bit further so u could produce a more appealing and random result. I added some food dye to a slightly split lemon and through it again, it broke apart and the results where very aesthetically interesting. I found through this that the intentional failure of trying to play sport with lemons produced similar splats and interesting visual, which where in way a visually appealing success
In class, we had to create an "artwork" out of waste materials. We had to keep our mind set focused on creating an object, a useful object and then think "what do we need in order to produce it, out of wasted material, that we can find. My groups idea was to creat le and umbrella. At first we thought of using wire and plastic bags for our "recycled umbrella" idea.. We couldn't find those things and resulted to using plant material. We had made small prototype models.. It was a good effort I think. We combined all the other groups' ideas from the class and dressed one of the class members with them, for a bit of fun.
Here is the five final artworks and the map location of the area.
Artworks:
- rock crab
- oyster water color diagram
- polluted rainbow
- fishing wire spiderweb
- oyster typography
i am really happy how these turned out. i feel as though they are all fairly different and unique but still resinate the same theme of the location i aimed to portray
What is a mark?
Marks are the physical or visible changes, differences and alteration around us. Some are purposely placed by individuals, or a result of natural events. some marks are accidental, yet all become a unique part of their surrounding location. It is ultimately the evidence and presence of life, reaction and movement.
What can marks in an around the site inform us about the place
The marks in a site are what give us evidence to show us what has happend, showing us history, or be symptoms of the present showing what is happening in the now. My representations of the site refer alot about the small, local fauna as well as forms of pollution in the area. the marks i chose to represent inform others about some of the issues of pollution in the area and the wildlife it could affect. i also aimed to show the beauty in the natural features of the environment there, even if it was through crabs and oysters.
On of the runoff pipes I found leading onto the shoreline. This partly what I based my pollution themed artwork on from part 11
Part 11: for the final work I wanted something simple. I decided on a symbolic water Colour painting of pollution in the water. Sometimes when you see run off or pollution Rome boat or building near the water the substance floats on top, and in the right angle in reflects a rainbow mix of colors. Like for a previous artwork, I used water color because I thought it would help the painting blend and look more like water. I found the mark of this pollution conflicting. It has a negative environmental impact, but looks so amazing in the sunlight. Because I found it conflicting is the obscure reason I chose to document it through a simple painting. The work shows that like many urbanized shorelines and boating areas, there is a unique conflicting trail of polluting run off that follows.
Part 10: this piece is a diagram style water Colour of oysters from my chosen area. I have never properly used water color before so I had to figure it out and experiment with different colors and painting methods, but eventually came out with a satisfying result. I chose a diagram style because it is an appropriate method of documentation whilst still visually stimulating, the labels and information are from no source, except from my own knowledge, assumption and observation of the oyster. I found that oysters individually have beautiful markings, especially the contrasting visuals and textures of the inner smooth shell and outer rough surface. Oysters where such a prominent mark of fauna in the area. I had never before considered there individual markings but now realize there potential for being considered a "mark" with markings in the Newport- pittwater area
Part 10: this water Colour diagram of oysters is another way of my documentation. I have never properly used water colour and thought that it would be useful in representing the inner oyster shells blend of colour. i also have used a single frottage rubbing, in order to make the work more doagram-like. With the labels and information, I used no references, the writing is based on my own knowledge and observation when exploring the area and finding the oysters. I wanted to do another work based around oysters because of the marking the oysters have themselves. I liked the contrast between the rough and unpleasant exterior to the smooth pearl like interior. I liked the way a small rainbow of colors would shine when I held an oyster shell at just the right angle to the sun. Oysters hold unique marks whilst also being a unique mark of fauna in the Newport- pittwater area.

The piece also incorporates frottage rubbings, increasing its diagram likeness, I chose a diagram style because it is an appropriate method of documentation whilst still visually stimulating, the labels and information are from no source, except from my own knowledge, assumption and observation.
