She still carried it with her, even when he accompanied her. Would pause at the door, in fact, to rush back to whatever room the crude thing rested in. And more often than not, if Niccolo wasn't with them, Imayo would hand his former body to Kokoro.

It amused him to see it from the outside--the rough stitching, the mismatched pieces of soft leather, the buttons she'd sewn on with clumsy earnestness. For a time, he'd lived within it, a form incomplete and restricted, able to do almost nothing to help her.

Almost.

For the one thing she'd so desperately needed him to do--alleviate her aching loneliness--this former shell worked admirably. And he understood why she clung to it still, found comfort in the weight of it against her when she slept.

He did, however, hope that one day, between he and Niccolo, they could soothe her enough that she no longer reached for the mangled thing whenever worries crossed her mind.
