anyway so i just read through the new posts tumblr & tumblr support put out about this and here’s the low-down for my fellow members of the rpc:

written content containing “erotica” is still allowed – aka you can still write all your smut

nudity found in art like sculptures & illustrations is also fine – this does not include gifs of scenes from tv shows, movies, etc. that have explicit material such as genitalia and sexually explicit acts

if you’ve reblogged sexually explicit (visual) content and were not the original poster of it, you have nothing to worry about – tumblr is contacting the poster & it will likely be removed from tumblr and therefore your blog

aka save it to your computer if you really really want it i guess

this process isn’t going to be perfect – some things you think are fine will be flagged & vice versa. give it time.

also if there’s anything you’re the original poster of that is flagged & you disagree, you can appeal it to tumblr

if your blog was flagged as explicit, that is now obsolete by these new guidelines – your blog will still be overlaid with a content filter when viewed directly

For those who are RPing through Skype

Microsoft has updated its Terms of Service and especially its Code of Conduct to make the use of offensive language and any sharing of nudity and pornographic content a punishable offence on their services. Those services include openly Microsoft branded ones, but also Skype.

So far, it is unclear how this will be handled and how far personal chats are included in this, but since it has been made clear that inappropriate content even in E-Mails sent through Outlook can be considered an offence you all should be careful!

Punishments for a breach of the CoC might include, on the low end of things, a temporary ban or simply your messages being held, but it can be as dire as a cancellation of your Microsoft account if the offence is deemed bad enough. 

Remember, fiction with NSFW content is still considered NSFW material and roleplay with sexual themes is considered sexting in the eyes of the law. There is no way to tell right now how Microsoft might handle NSFW (violent or sexual) roleplay under these new Terms of Service.

If you do not want to take the chance, a good alternative to Skype is Discord.

Microsoft has clarified that this will only be enforced on Skype by user reporting, so as long as your RP buddy doesn’t report you (they would have to report themselves too so probably not a great idea lol) you’re fine. Additionally, Discord keeps copies on its servers of what you send and you can’t delete it unless ALL parties in the chat delete it, and you have to delete every single message individually. (This is why I don’t upload any personal media directly to discord, and instead give my friends links which we then agree to delete from chat on both ends.)* It may be worth noting that Discord also has similar terms of use: We agree not to “post, upload, transmit or otherwise disseminate information that is obscene, indecent, vulgar, pornographic, sexual or otherwise objectionable as outlined in our Community Guidelines;” However, since they allow NSFW channels, that is unlikely to include RP.

*Edit: This doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, yay!
