Another alla prima study. Alla prima: wet paint into wet paint, one session painting. I did this to see if I could breath some life back into my studio portraits. I tend to over work the painting and lose the painterly effects I enjoy when I work from photos. This was an exercise to try and snap out of that habit. Ease 24”x48” Oil on panel I am beginning a more deliberate focus on the things I want, not the things I do not want or do not have. I want to experience ease, and I could think of no better way than to make a painting about it, that way each studio hour spent making this painting was an hour of positive focus on my desire. I have been trying to develop a higher sensitivity for my intuition. Throughout the whole painting process, from feeling a deep resonance with a place and an event to the posing of the model, to the composition and through to the application of paint. Ease- trusting my intuition. Ease-letting go of control. This piece was initially sparked by witnessing a large staging of crows. My girlfriend @sgreen1321 brought me to the field as a surprise for the daily gathering of thousands of crows at dusk, it was a very moving experience and I couldn’t get it out of my head for probably a year. We finally arranged to go back with a camera. We went back 3-4 times and the idea for the painting kept changing, but I was waiting for a feeling. I got the feeling on the last photo shoot visit, I think it was Christmas Day. I knew there was something at this location, it just took a while to find it.
