I was planning to do a 'Buck has ADHD' headcanon post this evening but not only is this one fabulous but Oliver shared and responded!

eddie: shhh, gentle, chris and i have only got up the "explaining what adhd is" part to buck so far

hen: oh so eddie, does that mean that you're aware of your autism?

Eddie Diaz struggling to express his emotions properly so he masks them instead and puts on a stable, reliable front- vs Evan Buckley s2 ep1 hating him instantly because he's too controlled.

Buck saying "You don't have to pretend around me" because he can read Eddie like a book, he's been able to since the first time they met.

Eddie hates and loves the way Buck sees through his charade, because Eddie is always secretly praying for people to understand him without having to tell them outright.. and Buck can do that. They know each other like the back of their hand.

He doesn't even realise it until it's already happened, but suddenly Buck is the safest place he knows. Of course he's going to love him for that. How couldn't he?

can we talk about Buck swooping in when Eddie stands to confront the homophobe? he says, and repeats “we’re not doing this” in such a way i could feel the weight of it

we’re not doing this. we. you and me, Eddie. we are going to swallow this. we are going to let it slide because we are lost and at their mercy—and because this isn’t our fight; its mine. he says we can’t do it, but he means that this isn’t Eddie’s fight to fight and so he should back down so he doesn’t get hurt

because Buck still thinks Eddie is straight. Buck thinks it’s his fault for being too vocal in the diner. too loud. too much. he thinks this is Eddie’s protective anger, the anger that comes out when someone accuses him of faking his son’s disability. or when someone is constrained and abused with religion by the people they should trust. Buck assumes this is Eddie having his back like he promised all those years ago. what he doesn’t realize is who Eddie is protecting with that anger

Buck doesn’t notice Eddie said “no, i want to know what our kind is” when he stood up. he doesn’t realize that Eddie’s anger always comes from protecting someone else the way he wants to have been protected. the man doesn’t feel his own PTSD is a real enough disability to accommodate for so he lashes out at the man who implies his son doesn’t need accommodations either. he felt confined and abused and forgotten by his own religion and so he’s quick to anger with Abigail’s captors. and in that diner, the man he loves is being attacked for being queer and so he stands up, quick to protect. maybe he doesn’t know his anger is self-preservation. maybe he hasn’t made that connection yet but it’s there, bubbling under the surface and just waiting to be addressed

i know i like to joke about how buddie’s relationship is that weird, indescribable thing, but, in reality, they’re pretty clear to me. the relationship that actually gets me the most is eddieshannon

it’s like… they were in love. they resented each other. they were best friends. they were strangers. they were forced to be married. they were in love with the idea of each other. eddie left shannon and chris. shannon left eddie and chris. they never really wanted to leave. they never really wanted to stay. they loved talking with each other. they loved having sex. they used sex to avoid communication. they missed each other when they were apart. they missed each other when they were together. shannon didn’t know who she was outside of eddie and chris. eddie doesn’t know who he is outside of shannon and chris. and he feels like now he’ll never get a chance to know - because he’s the only one who remembers her the way he wants her to be remembered. he can’t let go. she doesn’t deserve to be forgotten. he doesn’t deserve to forget. they can’t exist without each other. but two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.

When I say I want a reverse-tsunami with Eddie and Theo, I don't actually mean I want a tsunami, I want an emergency where Eddie and Theo are together and Eddie has to protect him alone while Buck is not there.

The emergency can be anything.

Eddie is gonna spoil Theo ROTTEN if only because he loves doting on a little kid again now that Chris is a moody teen

Y’all say Buck won’t be able to say no to the kid, but Eddie? He’ll be throwing cookies at that boy

“Buck, he wants cookies, just make him some.”

“Eddie, I can’t give him anymore sugar!”

“Buck, look at him. He’s the most sweetest little boy ever! You really going to deny him?!”

Buck glances at Theo who is sitting like an angel in Eddie’s lap, colouring on a book, head nuzzled against Eddie’s chest. He has no idea how Eddie gets him to sit still.

“But-”

“But nothing, Buck, come on. A couple cookies aren’t gonna hurt.”

“Fine, but you’re putting him to bed.”

“Deal.”

Buck huffs. The second Eddie turns his attention to Christopher, Theo sticks his tongue out at Buck. Buck’s mouth drops open. He can’t believe his biological son has Eddie wrapped around his finger like that. Damn, guess he really is a Buckley.

Buck chuckles but makes the cookies anyways.

Reversal Will Reveal concept, where Buck also just writes Eddie in as Theo's guardian and also just does not tell Eddie.

Until Eddie's talking to Maddie and somehow gets on to mention Maddie taking Theo if something happens to Buck.

And Maddie just "?? I mean I obviously would, but aren't you taking him?"

Eddie's like "what?"

And Maddie's "Well you are Theo's guardian in Buck Will"

And Eddie gets to experience a taste of his own medicine in that moment

Eddie just stares at Maddie for a few seconds, blinking rapidly, before blurting out, "Him not telling me is payback for when I did the same thing with Chris, isn't it?"

Maddie stares back at Eddie before heaving a big sigh and draining her wine glass.

"What, EXACTLY, do you mean when you say you did the same thing? When did this happen?" Maddie rubs her temples, suddenly seeming exhausted.

Eddie just shrugs and keeps his eyes trained on the wine glass Maddie just drained. "I dunno...do you remember shortly after the Christmas you and Chim got together, when I got trapped underground?" He sees Maddie nod hesitantly out of the corner of his eye before continuing, "About a week after that."

The silence that follows is deafening as Maddie calculates the time frame before blurting out, "You'd known Buck for a year and a half at this point, and you chose him over every one else? Why did Chris go stay with your parents instead of Buck if that's the case? And why are you and Buck more married and in love than me and Chim without actually being married?!"

Eddie looks like a deer caught in headlights, unable to process anything after hearing "you and Buck...married" because OH

Eddie likes the sound of that.

Eddie cuts off Maddie's rant that he wasn't listening to. "Sorry, I gotta go propose to your brother, we're fixing the not married part asap."

You know what, I’d love it if we started s10 with Eddie and Maddie at odds with each other over the Theo situation.

Maddie is being distant and disapproving, keeping herself and Jee away from Theo, stressing at every opportunity that it’s only temporary, etc.

Meanwhile Eddie is being over-invested and defensive, putting himself right in the middle of it all and barking like a guard dog any time anyone tries to get near Buck or Theo, or to question anything Buck does, or to even suggest he might need their help.

Ultimately it’s because Maddie is terrified that Buck will be broken hearted if Theo’s grandma or whatever turns up and takes him away, so she’s trying to protect him by being cautious and careful with how far she connects with Theo, trying to model a safe route through a rough situation.

And Eddie is working through his own issues about both the way his parents made (make) him feel inadequate when he was (is) trying to care for Chris, and also his massive guilt about not being the supportive partner Shannon needed for those first few years, by making Buck feel like his decisions are good ones no matter what anyone says (including Buck when he questions himself or wants to ask for help from other people), and showing him that Eddie has his back.

So they’re both coming from a place of love and support, but they’re approaching it so differently that it creates tension and conflict between them, which makes everything worse.

I just think it’d be hilarious if their first ever one on one scene is them passive aggressively fighting over who’s best at loving Buck.

I do find it really funny when people call Eddie a brat tamer....

That man is not a brat Tamer, he loves it when Buck is a brat. He thinks it's funny. He is a brat enabler.

Why argue for "excited big brother" Chris vs "complicated feeling of being replaced" Chris when the correct answer is clearly both

Him being both big brotherly and exciting for his new family member and having complicated feelings about Buck having a "Real" kid and the undefined role Buck plays in his life are not mutually exclusive and should both be explored

IN CONCLUSION
