i love the idea that buck prob not understanding a lick of spanish, only like a few words, and the diaz family using that as advantage to have secret convos
tia pepa came in to babysit while eddie and buck is going out
she ask eddie: "¿compraste condones?" (did you buy condoms?)
eddie goes red. "abuela! solo es la cena." (its just dinner)
tia pepa is callin bullshit on that while buck is just '??why is eddie angy???'
or
chris, buck, and eddie are playing a video game
chris goes "¡papá, va a ganar! ¡distráele!" (dad, he's going to win! distract him!)
eddie like "¿y dejarte ganar?" (and let you win?)
"¿quieres que el gane cuatro veces seguidas?" (do you want him to win four times in a row?)
buck quickly says "hey! hey! no cheating!!"
eddie quickly acted with the first thought and that was to kiss buck which got buck to lose the game
chris and him cheers at that small victory
buck pouts and says "thats not fair"
or eddie just mumble stuff in spanish to buck, whether he's mad or just full in love with this dumbass
like eddie just admiring buck one morning, lookin beautiful in the lighten and so comfortable. and he's like "¿cómo es que he tenido tanta suerte?" (how did i get so lucky?)
or eddie whisperin "te amo" which buck knows very well what it means and sometimes repeats it back, he usually says 'i love you too.' but sometimes buck just comes up to eddie and says 'te amo' with a little kiss
I am only slightly moved by oliver saying buck would have gone to texas with eddie had he just asked is because #real ones already knew this information. the confirmation is nice but was unneeded lolll
Had some thoughts about season 9b and season 10. This might be a mess
I was completely convinced that Eddie had realized that he was in love with Buck at the end of 8x09 when Buck revealed that he was moving into the house. But Ryan Guzman did an interview not that long ago with US Weekly in which he basically said that Eddie was oblivious to the way others might perceive him and Buck, mainly due to his difficulty getting in touch with his feelings and being raised to be hypermasculine and a “super soldier”. He even referred to Eddie and Buck’s relationship in a sort of ambiguous way and when talking about Eddie’s perspective regarding the people in the diner who saw the two as a couple, he basically states that Eddie thought “‘I don’t get it. I don’t even see it’”
And this adds so many more layers to Eddie’s s9b arc and could help with figuring out parts of his storyline next season
My explanation is kind of long so walk with me here
See Buck has already been out for a while when they go to Nashville, my guess is 2+ years. And at this point Eddie has not dated any women for over a year, has bought himself at an auction to avoid dating women, and has appeared to avoid even the idea of being with women
During a live, Oliver Stark said that Eddie would “drink the juice” in season 9 (or 9b, don’t quote me on this). So we can infer that Eddie has realized he’s gay but still doesn’t perceive his relationship with Buck and anything
Which is where we can get a glimpse into Eddie’s mind and see more of his arc during season 9b
Eddie understood what the people at the diner were seeing between him and Buck and never acted like they were targeting Buck more, so what if Eddie thought that people figured out he was gay and perceived the two as a couple because of him?
This could mean that Eddie had even more guilt about Buck being kidnapped, because he could’ve felt that he but both of them in danger
It could also add to his increasing frustration with the “chain of command” he’s talked about throughout the season, because of the fact that he was failed by the police due to his sexuality
It would also explain why he’s still trying to hold onto his belief in that very same system that has been failing him and those around him. This can be attributed to two factors: his upbringing (which in some ways correlates with the second factor) and how he feels he is being perceived. These two will directly lead to his arc in season 10
Eddie’s hypermasculine socialization from his childhood and his time in the military shaped how he views himself as both a first responder and as a citizen that is supposed to rely on the system. He’s trying to see it as a shield, a true safety net, a force of good he can actually contribute to as a firefighter while feeling like good is being done in his community outside his own like work
This is especially true given his survivor’s guilt and his unwillingness to let himself experience joy in season 8
Eddie seemed happier in season 9, and if he drank the juice then he’s at least trying to seek happiness through things like the comfort of an established system
Now onto perception. Eddie gave Ravi a look when they were at the nightclub (with Buck) that meant that he wanted the topic of conversation to be dropped immediately. Ravi’s reaction hinted that he noticed that there was something more. Eddie seemed even more avoidant the rest of the night, almost like that question scared him
Eddie could have come out to himself, but his fear of being honest about what he wants and his guilt about putting others in danger, coupled with his fear of no longer being protected by a system due to his sexuality, could be what’s preventing him from coming out
So what’ll happen to him in season 10?
Season 9 ended with Eddie wanting to mend a broken system, and we know that he’ll be another parental figure to Theo in the way that Buck was to Christopher. Plus his season 9 arc was never wrapped, it’ll continue in season 10
To achieve growth and conclude his arc from last season he’ll need learn to be open to relying less on a system and more on people. He’ll have to let go of what he might view as a positive from when he was younger, making him reflect on his past more, and trust those around him as people who, u like his parents, will love and accept ALL aspects of him
Now remember when the elf lady told Buck that he and Eddie had an adorable son? Yeah I have a feeling that we’re gonna have a parallel to that scene in s10
Buck just kind of paused for a second, said thank you, and moved on. Eddie might react similarly on the outside, but his mind will play those words in his head over and over again
We saw Eddie have a panic attack when the topic of marriage was discussed while he was with Ana. We know he sees dating women as a performance. He is anxious and self conscious when anything regarding his sexuality is perceived
Maybe a scene like that is the push he needs to actually be ok with being perceived as gay. It’s a safe and positive scenario, the exact opposite of what happened during the road trip. Maybe a gentle push from Hen or the priest after that might help give him the courage he needs to come out to the 118
Eddie’s arc this upcoming season will see him learning to be ok with himself and his newfound view of the world
