Inktober day 4: Spell
Day 3: Roasted
Feat. Sad little toastie ghostie
Inktober day 2: Tranquil
It's messy and doesn't look how my brain says it should, but I'm pretty happy with it all things considered...
I'm definitely not an artist, but I'm looking to improve and be a bit more creative so I'm giving inktober a go... I'm using texts and fine liner pens but that's just what I own so it'll have to do!
There and back and oh god I'm there again: a student's tale
Chapter one: an unexpected breakdown
In a hole of anxiety spiralled a student. Not an understandable, regular kind of hole filled with standard and expected worries and stresses, nor a deep, late night existential hole fuled by alcohol and/or conspiracy compilations on YouTube. It was a student hole, and that meant surprise feelings.
Tldr: my mother is always right and girls get gayer
So I don't think any of this is offensive but if it is please let me know?
So my mum is a Bi lady married to a man, but she's always told me that as women get older, they get gayer... Sounds like a weird thing to say to your child but I'm just lucky to live in such a generally supportive household so I don't question it...
Anyway, I'm only 20 but I've always been the straightest straight to ever straight in terms of sexuality. Recently however, I have found myself romantically attracted to women far more than men, and even once or twice sexually (and honestly I'm not sexually attracted to many people at all anyway so that's a big number).
Now I won't say that it makes me LGBTQ+ but I am saying that I've become a lot less definite about my straight-ness and when I look at my mum I know she probably had a very similar thing happen to her before she became a powerful 30+ ear old feminist bisexual woman with strong lesbian tendencies and absolutely no fucks to give...
Anyway, my mum's great and I think I might be a teeny tiny bit on the lesbian side of the spectrum now that I'm getting older?
The other day my mum and I had a bit of a spontaneous cry because we were just so overwhelmed by how amazing the concept of sisterhood is and how beautiful women helping women is and how there's this universal connection between all these women that's just unspoken and THERE. Anyway, that's all, I love women having love for women. I love women protecting women. I love women supporting women!!
“Angels” block the Westboro Baptist Church from protesting Orlando victim’s funeral
When a handful of Westboro Baptist Church members showed up Saturday at the funeral of Orlando shooting victim Christopher Leinonen, counterprotesters donning large, white angel wings were there to shield mourners. Members of the Orlando Shakespeare Theater put together the wings as a symbolic but also literal screen between the WBC and funeral attendees. An Orlando Police tweet later proved the efforts to stop the WBC worked.
Okay, but I’m actually crying tears of frustration, because the article doesn’t even mention the history behind this act.
There’s a reason this was undertaken by a theatre company. It means they knew The Laramie Project. It means they knew that the idea for the angel wings came from their use to block the WBC at the funeral of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student who was murdered in Wyoming in 1998.
The original “Angel Action” was a counterprotest organized by LGBTQ activist Romaine Patterson, who had been a friend of Shepard’s in high school. This is part of our history. We’ve been shielding our loved ones from hate groups while we bury our dead for decades – and that deserves acknowledgement.
Reblogging for the added information.
The Laramie Project is a beautiful piece of theatre and if you ever have the opportunity, please see it. It's the perfect mix of true story facts, and true emotion. The script is amazing, the story is heartbreaking, and the message in the end tells us to be better and makes you feel hope.
Awesome Childhood Spelling
Uhh…where it says “looked” read “lopped”. lol This is based on the original tweet you see up there by Twitter user @Sal_Perez4 (see the original tweet here).
I love linguistics. Also I love how clever small children are. The world is an awesome place full of interesting things.
Bad Cats.
OP, you fool. These are THE BEST CATS
Stanley is so chaotic I love him
Cats are so good. Totally insane. I love them all.
#relatable?
Evan Edinger's video about relationship anxiety ( https://youtu.be/Xl9MA9Gg7cU ) is, like, scary accurate to my life right now. It's so relieving to have someone else say what I've been trying to explain for the last two years. It's nice not to feel alone.
I'm 20, I'm the only single person I know in my social circle, I've had exactly two kisses in my life, I've NEVER had a relationship- not even at high school... I've been pretty OK with it until recently, but it's almost like my singledom is a part of who I am- my friends are in happy relationships, one has recently had to breakup with her boyfriend and is now whinging constantly about being single but 'no Annie, it's different, you're like a strong single woman, you've never had a boyfriend it's different for you'. Well maybe I'm a strong single woman who wants a boyfriend and the reason I've been single for so long is that I'm terrified of dating, of meeting all these new people, of my goodie goodie reputation being somehow ruined or, even worse, reinforced for everyone I know.
I already struggle with attraction- I'm attracted to men, but half the time I'm only attracted to the concept of a man I like. When I see the guys I could actually date I can't really feel it. I rely pretty heavily on personality, but hey, I'm also definitely into looks... I don't want to have 'low standards' but I can't figure out if I'm just fussy or my sexuality is fucked up or if I'm just too anxious to be attracted to men who I could feasibly ever talk to...
The gist of this was meant to be that it's nice to know someone else out there is feeling similarly to me cause up until now I've been thinking I have something properly wrong with me...
Feel free to hit me up if you feel like this too- maybe we can start a 'weird anxious singles who want to be less single' support group or something...
No thanks
A guy at a princess store in Disneyland was asking me if I related to Merida in any way and I was like
“I don’t know man. I’m more of an Elinor.”
And he busted out laughing.
What I love most about this movie is that shows that being a princess is not wearing a beautiful dress, marrying a prince and live happily ever after, but a job, a hard job with duties and responsibilities were a lot of people depend on you
being the Lady of a medieval estate was SUCH AN IMPORTANT FUCKING JOB AND SO FUCKING FULL OF HARD WORK WHICH MEDIEVAL MEN ACKNOWLEDGED TBH
(one problem with perception of medieval gender roles is that most of the people who were writing, especially those who were writing HISTORY, were CLERGYMEN who had never been married and lived in a weird situation cut off from the way the rest of the world worked and had like no actual life experience with the real world - and then popular culture’s idea of it has been heavily informed by VICTORIAN choices of who and what to translate and popularize)
upper class medieval women were expected to run and manage the entire estate that they got from their husband (or that they already had in their own right through inheritance or as their marriage portion), a job which was acknowledged as being way difficult and requiring a wife with strength and fortitude and business sense if you wanted to be a successful person
they were the HR managers of households that might have over a hundred people in, and tho a duchess or a queen would certainly not go to the store to do the household shopping, and she probably had a steward to assist her, it was ultimately her responsibility to know what things were needed for that household, to make sure that the appropriate people obtained those things, to oversee the use of the household materials, to make sure that EVERYTHING got done so that ALL those people could live and work smoothly. they wrote letters and managed the business of the estate and networked with other members of the nobility for both important game-of-thrones political reasons and for smaller more personal reasons like ‘that guy has a really nice deer chase, so if i send him some marmalade from our garden, he might send some venison back as a return gift”
even in lower class households mom managed everything and women were basically considered to be shrewder and have better heads for that particularly kind of business than men and choosing a wise wife was the best thing you could do for yourself as a man who intended to be successful
they were like hands-on CEOs and shit yo and don’t get me wrong society was sexist as fuck and they were limited as hell in what they could do and everything was classist beyond belief but no way was being a noblewoman just a matter of sitting up a tower looking pretty & the contributions that they made are so important
also, the ladies of castles were responsible for defense when their husband was away at war (which happened a lot), so while personally participating in battle was unusual (though not entirely unheard-of) they did often find themselves in strategic command. and in wartime they frequently functioned as a sort of de facto logistics officer.
oh, and has anyone mentioned diplomacy. because an arranged marriage is only the START of a princess’s diplomatic career. the alliance she forges with her marriage is one she’s responsible for maintaining her entire life. unless she decides to go ahead and take over the country; that’s been an option too from time to time. :D
suddenly i really want to see a disney movie about a princess AFTER the wedding — forging a political bond with her new husband, defending the castle, sending troops and supplies to make sure he comes home from the war, reading secret reports from her spies in the enemy’s court… *swoon*
YES.
And I’ve tried to touch on this with Merida, because ALL OF THIS? THIS is why Merida has absolutely ZERO desire to get married or (eventually) become Queen. Because it means her life - every second of her free time - going down the drain as she becomes more and more tangled up in running the castle AND the kingdom.
(This is also why Elinor’s such a freaking BAMF, she’s got this shit down, man.)
I also loved that this movie featured Merida realizing just what her mother was trying to teach her about commanding a room, and getting shit done. This movie was a mother-daughter movie with both sides conceding on certain points. Elinor realises she has been too focused on the big picture, and not her daughter’s actual valid problems with this future plan that has removed her agency, and Merida recognises her mother has been trying to teach her valuable life skills. The two of them learn how to talk to one another again, to treat each other like actual, flawed and multi-faceted people, and their relationship is stronger for it.
I love brave. I have always loved brave. I will always love brave. Fuck frozen, Brave is a better feminist Disney film. That's all, cool thanks
OK so this post is driving me fucking mental! It's so annoying. I can't block it or say I don't want to see it, it keeps coming up in my timeline thing, and I'm NOT INTERESTED
He wants snuggles
I want one of those scenes in a dude bro film where “tomboy” chick has to wear a dress to go undercover or whatever, but instead of the guys drooling as she walks down the stairs, they’re like “k. U need to stop. Go put the cargo pants back on. You look super uncomfortable and awkward in that. Brutus, you go be the fake prostitute.”
I’m just imagining this super ripped guy called Brutus being like ‘YESSS!!! I’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE THE FAKE PROSTITUTE!! Now is my time to shine!!’
so I got inspired… and had to make a comic….
BRUTUS ANSWERS THE CALL
I love
Wrote a song. No music yet. It's shit but accurate.
You work so hard
To do so well
But not hard enough
Cause you get nothing
He got frowns
And she gets smiles
And you didn't fail
But you still got nothing
Oh
Nothing
You're not an issue
Aren't you glad
You don't upset them
Aren't you glad
They have the time
To give to those who need it more
Deserve it more
And you'll get nothing
You've nearly won
But it's not the right
Competition
So they say nothing
And if you stop
You leave it all be
Just as they need you
Will they do nothing
Oh
Nothing
You're not an issue
Aren't you glad
You don't upset them
Aren't you glad
They have the time
To give to those who need it more
Deserve it more
And you'll get nothing
You'll get nothing
You mean nothing
Til you get something
Nothing
Nothing at all
Well, this sucks...
Been feeling pretty low for a while. Pretty anxious/sad without reason.
Really starting to effect my life at this point... It sucks cause I've been going to a councillor for ages and it's just been getting worse despite the fact that I already use all recommended coping mechanisms automatically.
I'll feel happy one second and then a switch flips in my brain and suddenly everything feels false. I can't enjoy a moment.
A show I'm in just opened tonight. It was amazing, I made mistakes but it was good over all. Everyone was happy. And then, during speeches, I dropped down.
I felt uncomfortable, alone, anxious, ugly, foolish, like an imposter... Forced myself to chill out a bit and mingle with my castmates, managed to improve a little.
It's now nearly 1am and I feel like shit.
Got a councillor appointment tomorrow afternoon. Mum wants me to ask about meds. I don't know if that's right for me. I don't understand what the scale is. What OK means.
On top of that I just found out one of the people I care most about in the world has been hearing voices telling him to hurt himself among other things.
I have no spare time, I'm so busy it hurts sometimes.
Life feels kinda shitty right now...
I don't even know...
