Release Additional DLC with the Voice Actors from the Compilation of FFVII for the FFVII-R
A lot of us grew up hearing the voices of Steve Burton and George Newbern as Cloud and Sephiroth.Ā
Since Kingdom Hearts 1 released 20 years ago, Steve has been the only voice actor for Cloud Strife until 2019. He returned for games like Dissidia, World of Final Fantasy, and even Mobius. He was specifically chosen to voice Cloud because of his role in the 2001 movie, The Last Castle. Heās expressed his love for the character, the series, and the fans, and was clearly heart-broken to hear that he was not asked to reprise his role for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, despite voicing a trailer for the game in December 2015.Ā
A lot of people seem to think that he was fine with passing the torch off to Cody Christian, but he has expressed a desire to return to voicing Cloud, even as recently as June 2022 in a Cameo to a fan where he stated,Ā āHey, maybe theyāll bring us backā, referring to the entire cast that was replaced. He has also liked tweets sharing this petition that I have linked. Itās pretty clear that if given the chance, he will voice Cloud again.
While not being the first voice actor for Sephiroth, George Newbern has voiced the character since 2006, the year Advent Children and Kingdom Hearts 2 released. Immediately he was a fan favorite, and continued to voice Sephiroth in many projects, large and small, until 2019. When the next trailers for Final Fantasy 7 Remake released in May and June of 2019, many fans were not happy with the new voice for Sephiroth. It was clearly a step down from how George portrayed the character, and George also went to Twitter to express disappointment in not being asked to reprise his role. Ever since he has made mention on numerous occasions that he would love to return to voicing the character, as Sephiroth is his favorite role, and has also liked this petition.
He and a number of the original cast from the compilation have said that if fans want them to return, that they have to let Square Enix know. This is what this petition and this campaign is aiming to do.Ā
This petition kindly asks Square Enix to release a DLC for FF7Remake that would allow us to play the game with the cast from the compilation.Ā
Many people donāt realize that every other region that FF7Remake released in kept the same voice actors that they used in the compilation, Kingdom Hearts, and other titles these characters appeared in. It was only the English version that replaced the cast. So when Kitase and SE say things like,Ā āWe wanted to go in another directionā, orĀ āthe characters are younger than they were in Advent Childrenā, just know that these are excuses that make no sense.
When SE released Star Ocean: First Departure R in Japan, they brought back the old cast to voice the game, as well as used a new cast. So they had the option to play with the old voice actors in Japanese for fans that played the first game, and the option to play the game with new voice actors in Japanese.
Silent Hill HD also had an option similar to this where you could choose between the old cast from the original and a new cast for the HD release.
So, having two different casts in the same language has been done before, even by SE. It could work for FF7R.
SE also released a Russian dub for FF15 completely for free. For this FF7Remake DLC, it wouldnāt be an entire re-dub of the game, because it wouldnāt be every character, just the characters that were previously voiced by the original cast. And a number of the characters donāt have as many lines as the main party. A DLC like this is very doable and would not cost as much as people may think.
Again, this petition and campaign is not asking for the replacement of the new voices actors, only an added option with the original cast, who have ALL said they would return if asked.
If there is enough demand, as we believe there is (the petition as of June 2022 has over 6,600 signatures), we can make this happen. Please follow Operation Reunion across social media, we are a group of fans who are very passionate about the world of Final Fantasy 7 and about fair treatment of voice actors. So I'm here for all the support that john dimaggio is getting at the moment with he probably not being cast as bender again and for all those other voice actor supporting him wanting him to get his role back and getting paid more but where was this energy when Square Enix replaced the cast of ff7 for the remake like Steve Burton, George Newbern, Rachael Leigh Cook and the rest of the cast are out of a job. But this energy was not there for them especially from other voices actors as well like let's keep this energy now especially for all types of media. However it's a shame that we didn't have this energy until now because many great voices actors have lost roles that they had been playing for years and voice acting isn't an easy job to do and you don't make bank from it.
We havenāt been very active here on Tumblr but itās time to branch out! FF7R is a strange case concerning the voice cast! It was purely a marketing decision for Square Enix to only change out the English voice actors, but let me tell you, fans have always been pushing for them to reunite with their characters as DLC!Ā
Right now we have a hashtag campaignĀ across all social media asking Square Enix to also include the option to play with the original PSP voices along with the new cast for Crisis Core Reunion! The hashtag to use is #CrisisCorePSPVoices! Please use it often to bring it to Square Enixās attention!Ā
We also have the Legacy Cast DLC campaign in which we are asking Square Enix to also release a DLC of the Legacy Cast along with also keeping the Remake cast so all fans and actors are included!Ā

Ever since the announcement of Crisis Core Reunion, a lot of fans have voiced their disappointment that Square Enix are using new voice actors instead of the original audio from the PSP version.
Some say this is because it will be fully voiced unlike the original game, but that's even more reason to use the original audio because the work has already been done, money already spent.
The old VA's (Rick Gomez, George Newbern, Steve Burton, Andrea Bowen, Quinton Flynn, etc) have all expressed interest in reprising their roles as they were recast for FF7Remake unexpectedly last minute. All Square would have to do is bring them back for just a few recording sessions. That's it. Less time-consuming and more cost effective. But instead they chose to re-record everything with new actors, some of whom have not been well received by the fanbase, particularly the new actor for Zack.
Looking at the trailer again, it's pretty clear this will be a 1:1 remake/remaster of Crisis Core since it seems to be the exact same script. Even the new voice actors seem to have been given direction to imitate the old actors' delivery as well, which has to be even more waste of effort.
What's the point then? To replace long established actors with new actors that either sound almost exactly like the old ones and then have them mimic delivery and inflection too? It's most certainly not because they want to go another direction, as seems to be the excuse.
It would be so easy to patch in the original audio as other regions like Japan seem to be doing. Judging by fan feedback online, A LOT of people want the same thing.

Square Enix has released new information and screenshots of Final Fantasy VII Remake highlighting the Turks, Avalanche, more of the battle system and materia, the Chocobo & Moogle summon, and the church and Aerithās house in the Sector 5. Additionally, Square Enix revealed two new visuals featuring Aerith and Barret and shared 11 developer comments. ā¦
This article confirms the Japanese voice actors for Reno and Rude. Keiji Fujiwara and Taiten Kusunoki will be reprising their characters. The English voice actors for these characters have yet to be released.Ā
The Japanese voice actors from Advent Children and the Compilation are returning, yet the English cast had to be replaced for an unknown reason. Kitase has confirmed Compilation material will be incorporated into the Remake so it is notĀ ānon canonā to the compilation.Ā
