Yes I'm aware it wasn't the Black City until AFTER they went there but whateva

For me personally, I am 100% in the yes camp! The small amount of stuff I can think of right away is:

1. Kirkwall is noted to have a considerable weakened Veil, the mages in its circle are far more likely to die durring theie Harrowing and are waaaay more susceptible to possessions

2. The city itself has a weird layout, I'm pretty sure there's even a codex entry that specific mentions how the structure of the roads and neighborhoods is almost like that of a sigil

3. The fact that Corypheus is held in a prison nearby, like sure could he be the source of the Weird? Some of it yeah but like why is their a Forbidden One in the sewers?

4. Oh yeah the Forbidden One in the sewers, whats bro doing down there??

5. Oml I can't believe I forgot but it's mentioned that in order for the Magisters to have breached the City, they needed a loooot of slaves to uses for blood magic, and what is Kirkwall, the CITY OF CHAINS, unfortunately historically known for? Yeah slavery and blood mages

Anyways after finishing up Origins n all the dlcs I'm about to start DA2, and while this is a theory I've been pondering and chewing on for a while I'm going to try and find explicit evidence to support my claim because I love reading codexes I love lore >:}

So I just recently (as in last night) finished playing through Origins once again as a way to start off playing all the games in order! And of course, as has been pointed out, there is a statue in the Dalish Elf origin that looks EXACTLY like what Ghilan'Nain appears as in Veilguard, which is intially just a statue of one of the original designs for the archdemon. Related fact that I also find very interesting is that when you encounter the clan in the Brecillian forest, the notable statue for Ghilly is next to a sick halla and missing her head.

I also stumbled upon a side quest that I had never encountered before where you fight blood mages through an abandoned house in Denerim, ending in a room with things that look like eluvians and statues. One of which is decorated with the classic darkspawn stuff, which first off is weird (and probably just assets reuse shush) but the alleged defiled statue is that of *Andrastes HUSBAND who BETRAYS her I forget his name* that ends up looking kinda like Elgar'Nan... with that previously seen statue of Ghilan'Nain AND weird looking dragons...

Anyway, for me its Dorian! Inquisition was the first game in the series I played, and way back around when it first came out he was the companion I most remembered! Replaying the game as an adult and really getting to know Dorian, talking to him and doing his quest truly solidified how much of a friend he is to the Inquisitor and to me <3

Given that the series started with the Fifth Blight, I feel like the way Veilguard handled the more horror-esqu elements of the Blight overall was really well done! Like oh my goddd the first time I experience D'Metas Crossing felt so unsettling. Just the absolute destruction of the buildings and how deeply and quickly the blight set into everything, how mindless the villagers felt, even some of the companion commentary really added to how horrific the Blight is. It really felt like an infection, the darkspawn read less to me like generic zombies and like an actual extention of what happens to people and things that get blighted. The Hossberg Wetlands was so unsettling and erie and felt really hopeless in the beginning, and the fact that there were multiple blighted dragons that weren't archdemons helped to sell for me that the Blight isn't just something that effects the people of Thedas. It feels angry. People often compare Veilguard and 2 to each other, and I definitely see where that comes from, but it truly was the successor to Origins when it comes to the Blight, both in lore and presentation.

It's no secret that I love Veilguard and I meant to post this on Valentines Day but I was busy and now life is rough so I'm gonna talk about one of my favorite video games of all time to cope <333

I love the companions in Veilguard, I love their banter in the Lighthouse, how they continue it out in the field, the ways the include Rook into it, and I know its a topic of much discussion but I really do love how they're actually friends with each other, how they're not vaguing or at each others throats at such a turbulent time when people need support

I love how unapologetically queer the game is, how an entire character arch is centered around their identity, and I appreciate the unambiguous use of the word nonbinary, that to me feels like its blocking out any sort of ifs ands or buts about it, I love how Emmrich is sweet and sappy about asking Strife out, how Bellara has an ex girlfriend she talks about, the ways in which trans people are able to represent themselves clearly with their character

I love how beautiful the game is, how every city and environment feels different, distinctive, and has its own layout and navigation, the architecture shows so much thought and love, the buildings and landscapes feel so tied into the lore and the story, how I never get bored of just walking around and looking at the sights

I love the quests and the lore, how the main story felt and the way the companions quests were about them but still fed into the main quest, how emotional and attached I felt to what was happening, how the final battle and the epilogue made me cry, every new detail that we learned about the world of Thedas, it's history and its lore, what happened to make it the world we're familiar with

I love Dragon Age, I love the Veilguard, I don't think I'll ever stop

Dragon Age as a media franchise is so good at ignoring it's own implications, that if you start to pick apart the world building, the brain worms get you and you are trapped here forever.

My Dragon Age theory is taking a bit longer than I'd like, most of which comes from the fact that I like to site my sources and thus am trying to take my own screenshots from like 2-3 different games. It's not a super extensive/large one so hopefully I can get it together before the end of the year lol.
