Dream Show Challenge 2025

What you do then is create a show bible for your show.

The show bible must include:

·      At least one-paragraph blurb on what the show is about (like you’d get in a TV Guide)

·      What character each actor is playing (you don’t need character names, although it’s always good to have, but you do need to provide a character description.)

If you choose to cast a few more “roles” in your show, that is great too.

·      For extra credit, give a sketch of a plot arc OR a couple of two-sentence teasers for some important first-season episodes. – In the past we’ve had ‘shows’ that have provided a few episodes for season one, a full mini-series sketched out and even a full five-year arc so don’t feel constrained to a few episodes only.

As the challenge is running over the ‘holiday season’ then extra ‘extra’ credit will be given if you can add in a 'Christmas/New Year/Festive Season' episode.

Cynthia Knoller, gifted athlete, began a non-profit organization to establish endowments for students who need monetary help to attend higher education. After she was injured in a field hockey accident, she was unable to rejoin her team,

Sharon Rogers began attending Harvard and with financial assistance, was able to travel to England and attend Oxford University.

Gina Bellman

Constance Heure, the first time traveller, her sons (among a select few) were inspired and trained to surf through time and subtly change minor events, to nudge the world towards a better future. Realized how powerful and fragile the time line was, when she returned from a trip and instead of being treated for aggressive cancer, Constance’s small changes had slightly changed her mother’s DNA and now, did not carry the marker for breast cancer and Maggie was now in good health.

Dark forces have imperilled Earth. With the world on the brink of extinction, it’s up to two time travelling brothers to nudge humanity back on course. 

Episode 1:

1867

Nick, Justin and Grace provide distractions as Stormy Johnson and several others help former slaves journey to New York and settle there. Bounty hunters are misdirected so first they search farther afield, then other directions, as the intrepid time travellers leave false trails that peter out.

Stormy and the other young adults begin teaching their charges and establish a school for disadvantaged youth.

Elsewhen, Maggie works on her theory that time travel is possible, and invents a time machine.

Episode 2:

1965

Cynthia Knoller, a gifted athlete since she was young, won a full scholarship for field hockey at an ivy league university. After a career ending injury, she searched for a new future. Grace, Nick and Justin he;ped nudge her towards Bryn Mawr. Always popular, she was able to build and raise money so other young women could pursue their dreams, including various scholarships worldwide.

Episode 3:

2030

Isaiah Tucker came from a large family and one day, a friendly librarian (Grace) pointed him towards scholarships he might qualify for. With a little help from Nick and Justin, his application was approved and he enjoyed a full scholarship to M.I.T.

After a long career in technology, he was able to pay it forward and many aspiring students were mentored. 

2052

Sharon Rogers, elected Prime Minister. Attended university in the U.S., and qualified, with a little help (Nick) to travel to England and continue her post graduate studies. After a slight mishap with Grace, Sharon practically bumped into her future husband. Justin ensured Peter and Sharon began to study together and soon after graduation, they married. As he worked in a bank, she pursued government service.

Elected as Prime Minister in 2052, Sharon and Peter celebrated their first Christmas and threw a New Year’s Eve party so she could suss out the lay of the land and continue networking, strengthening connections to become one of the best prime ministers.

Special Guest Star: Geraint Wyn Davies as Peter.

Weekend at Lakewood Manor

Dream Movie Challenge 2024

Matriarch Lady Vera MacDonald (Helen Mirren) has gathered her family and their close friends together at her manor on the first anniversary of her husband's death.

Son Archibald (Archie) (Peter Capaldi) was born and raised for the first few years of his life in Glasgow, Scotland, where Gerry (later knighted by Queen Elizabeth II) was a professor at Glasgow University. Archie's stubborness was observed early when the family moved to England, yet he maintained his strong Scottish accent.

Son Ian (Paul Hinton) came along several years later and was almost always indulged as the baby of the family.

Daughter Vivian was the middle child,(Gina Bellman) conceived after Gerry was offered and accepted a prestigious position at Cambridge in England.

Vivian was working in the adninistrative office of Cambridge when she met, and soon fell in love with Nathan Tyler (Sterling K. Brown) when he was a student there. His mother, widowed when he was a year old, met and fell in love with a diplomat (Joseph Ogilvy) from London, England When he was summoned back to England, they married and all three moved. A few years later, his sister was born.

Paula Tyler (Angel Coulby) idolized her brother and followed in his footsteps and attended Cambridge. Soon, she had a large group of friends, including Gareth (Arthur Darvill), Paula's bff Linda (and Gareth's girlfriend) (Amy-Louise Pemberton), Nick (Eoin Macken), Carol (who is also Archie, Ian and Viv's cousin) (Lindy Booth) and Marty (Colin Morgan).

When Lady Vera had a stroke soon after her husband's death, Paula moved in to care for her, as the two of them became great friends after Nate and Vivian grew serious.

As the family and friends reminisce, a group of four (players change) play bridge in the study, showing the strengths and stresses of the bonds between them. When Vivian and Tyler play against Archie and Ian, the siblings argue about how best to care for their mother. Vivian favours more home care, Archie wants the best nursing home with excellent staff and Ian wants to move back in and supervise any and all care for her.

After a long talk with each of her children, it’s decided Paula will continue to supervise Vera’s care, and there will be a permanent staff of rotating caregivers to help. Vivian and Nate will move into a cottage on the estate, Ian will take a job transfer to work in a bank much closer and will help make decisions when Vera becomes unable to manage them. Vera gives each of her children something they treasured as they were growing up. When their mother’s care is settled, Vivian plays a game partnered with Ian against Nate and Archie, then partnered with Archie, against Nate and Ian, signifying the siblings are in agreement.

When Paula, Gareth, Linda, Nick, Carol and Marty take turns playing against each other, they use it as an opportunity to catch up on each other’s lives (Linda also to see her relatives) and spend time with Paula, whom they rarely see, as most of them are scattered all over England, pursuing their dreams. At the end of the weekend, Gareth and Linda announce she’s pregnant, champagne all around except for Linda, who has sparkling water.

During the weekend, Vivian becomes the new matriarch of the family, as Vera takes a turn for the worse and it's decided that she'll have a full-time staff of carers whom Paula will oversee.

Valentines Surprise

Author’s note – Tiny Valentines Day Fic, just because.

“Any plans for Valentines Day?”

Miranda rolled her eyes as Cheryl appeared at her desk, “Why would I?”

Cheryl shrugged with a blithe smile.

“I take it you have plans,” Miranda stated amused, especially at the smile Cheryl gave her.

“Matt is taking me for dinner at my favourite restaurant,” she told her friend, “The same one he proposed to me at and then we’ll go home for ice cream.”

“Do not tell me anything else,” Miranda told her friend blandly.

Cheryl laughed, “You know if you gave the signal there would be a line of people looking to date you.”

Miranda shook her head, “I’m not ready yet.”

“You don’t always feel ready,” Cheryl replied, “But sometimes you’ve got to take a chance. Whoever broke your heart…”

“No,” Miranda cut the other woman off, “He never broke my heart, I broke my own heart because I had to leave him for his own good.”

Before Cheryl could say anything, a knock came on the door, Cheryl opened it to find a delivery man standing there carrying a large bunch of roses.

“Looks like Matt is stepping up this year,” Miranda noted.

Cheryl shook her head, “Nope. These are for you.”

“What?”

Miranda took the large bunch of bright red roses and found the card, “To Miranda, the most beautiful woman I have ever known, you are forever in my heart.”

“Is it signed?” Cheryl demanded when Miranda stopped.

Shaking her head, Miranda told her, “It just says ‘All my love’.”

“A secret admirer,” Cheryl purred, “How interesting.”

Miranda frowned but didn’t say anything else. She put the flowers in water before leaving the office and heading home for the night. She would investigate who sent them tomorrow and let whoever sent them know that, as much as she appreciated the gesture, it was not appropriate, and the sentiment was not returned.

Stepping outside, Miranda watched Cheryl walk over to her husband and kiss him hello. It made her smile, but also sad because she had that kind of love once and had to leave it.

Shaking herself, she waved goodbye to her friend before she started walking home.

Her house was only twenty minutes away from the museum where she had managed to get a job after leaving the Time Masters. It was almost five years since she’d said goodbye to the life she’d known since she was a child and the man who she loved more than she ever thought was possible.

But she had made herself a good life, with a home, job, and friends.

Reaching her house, Miranda frowned confused to see another delivery man at the door. He turned just as she reached it and yet again was a large bunch of roses.

“Oh,” the delivery man stated, “That’s good timing.”

Miranda frowned and opened the door, “You wouldn’t be able to tell me who sent these?”

He shrugged, “Sorry, I just get who they’re going to. If it’s not in the card, then you can call the office tomorrow. Be careful,” he said as he handed her the flowers, “There’s a jewellery box in there too. Which didn’t come from us.”

Miranda frowned but thanked him and headed inside. Putting the flowers down, she took a hold of the small red velvet box nestled amongst the roses.

Opening it, she found a beautiful gold ring with a perfectly solitaire diamond sitting in the centre. Snapping the box shut, Miranda looked for the card. When she found it, Miranda opened the small envelope and read the message.

“All my love,” she read aloud, annoyance filling her, “And whoever you are, you’re going to be on the receiving end of all my training.”

A knock came on the door, and a voice called, “Delivery.”

Frowning Miranda yanked open the door finding someone holding yet another large bunch of red roses, taking them so she could demand how many more of these deliveries she could expect, her voice stalled seeing the man behind them.

“Rip?” she finally breathed.

He gave her a soft smile, “Happy Valentines Day.”

“You sent me the flowers?”

Rip gave a slight nervous shake of his head, “Yes and no. When Gideon realised what day it was, then she set up the flowers, she’s quite the romantic.”

Miranda stepped back, placing the newest bouquet on the table beside the other one and picked up the velvet box.

“What about this?”

Rip bit his lower lip, letting out a soft breath before he opened the box and offered it to her.

“I am hoping you’ll say yes and wear it every day.”

“Are you asking me…” Miranda trailed off before shaking her head, “Rip, the Time Masters will never agree to this.”

“They will never know,” Rip told her, “I promise. Gideon can ensure I can spend time with you without them ever knowing and I know it’s not ideal, but I love you and I miss you.”

Miranda stepped closer to him, “I love you and miss you too but…”

“Trust me,” Rip closed the gap between them, “And marry me, please.”

Taking the box from him, Miranda took the ring and slid it onto her finger, “Yes.”

With a smile, Rip leaned in and kissed her.

When they parted, Miranda smiled, “It looks like I do have plans for Valentines Day.”

Dream Show Challenge 2023 – The Shows!!!

Thanks to everyone who joined in the Dream Show Challenge.

These are the incredible shows that were produced by these amazingly talented people, all different, and I want to see every one of them.

@incendiaglacies created Real Royals of the Realm: This mockumentary fantasy comedy shows stars the Royals of the Realm. In the Realm, the best known stories are how the King was tricked into marrying an Evil Sorceress but then fell in love with her and how the youngest daughter was stolen by a dragon ten years ago.

@singledarkshade create The Spectre Detective Agency: When Private Investigator Adam Spectre is injured during a case and falls into a coma, his younger half-brothers come to see him, meeting for the first time. Reluctantly they agree to run Adam’s detective agency until he recovers, discovering that their brother solved cases for supernatural beings and people with supernatural problems.

@oasis-wasteland created HeroWork: When the world's greatest hero announced he was going to retire by the end of the year, it sent the world into a frenzy. In a last effort to ensure the safety of   SolarFlare's apprentice, the GHA created a reality show competition to help choose the World's Next Hero. 

@yesmissbzzz created Croatian Stars: Evangeline tries to start a new life, and find a new love, a year after her husband passed away. She goes on a Europe Press Tour promoting her new book and dates with not the best results. Finally returns to London with her former family, a place she really didn’t want to go back to, ever… why?

@petersthree created Recursion: Recursion follows six ordinary individuals stuck in the monotony of their charming, but boring towns. That is, until some of them begin to notice things...out of place, causing them to question their lives and sense of reality.

@madneyslifeline created The Other Side: FBI Agent Sarah Edmonds’ entire life turns upside down when she comes home to see the leader of a mob waiting for her. Unless he wants her husband’s secrets exposed to the whole world, she’s going to work for him, without hesitation, without question, for the sake of her family.

@hozey-nevergoingtochurch created It Takes A (Working) Village: A neighborhood full of hard working people and their families from different walks of life have become unlikely friends. It’s these friendships that help everyone get through the triumphs and tribulations of life.

@theadrogna created Rift Hunter: Someone or something is trying to reach Earth, not through space but across a dimensional rift. A secretive agency battles to control the rifts and deal with the incursions that threaten humans and the very fabric of the world. Connor Harris is having a particularly bad day. He is broke, his girlfriend has left him, and he’s desperate for something to go right, when he stumbles through the wrong door on his way to a job interview for a job he doesn’t really want, and into the middle of an incursion.

@kalinara created The Silver Sisters: Twenty years ago, an already famous crew set out on what was supposed to be the greatest heist in galactic history.  But everything went wrong: they were betrayed, the score disappeared, and the criminals scattered. Until now.

@leomerlyn created The Weekenders: Sisters Clara, Ada, and Florence have been trying to make it in the Regency-era music scene their whole lives, and finally find opportunity together among New York’s burgeoning upper crust. Their success is bolstered by their music’s mysterious ability to draw the rich and powerful into trance states, bringing them to reveal their worst secret. It becomes a mark of honor and virtue to survive a performance-- a feat none have managed yet.

New Beginnings

Starring:

Karen Gillan - Melody, married to Ripley. An astute and brilliant promoter, she flits about in the episodes, helping to promote her husband's production.

Keith Szarabajka - Peter Turner, recently retired from the top ad agency in New York City, a bit of a mentor to Melody. His passion is his writing and he's had a few modest successes on off, off, off, off, off Broadway. Now he's written what he hopes is a winner and his play is being mounted on Broadway. Will he make it to the big time?

Adrian Pasdar - Nate Turner, younger brother of Peter. He's always been a believer in his older brother and he and his wife Cherie have lined up a group of backers so Peter's dream can come true.

John Kapelos - George Fitzgerald, began working at the ad agency at the same time as Peter and they became fast friends. He worked his way up and now runs said agency.

Aldis Hodge - Thaddeus Norman Turner, known as T.N.T. Son of Peter and Catherine ("C.T.") Turner, he's returned to NYC, lured in by Ripley and Roranicus to be the main face of their videos, interviewing people and showing off everything interesting in the city. He's just moved into a condo in the same building as his parents.

Kari Matchett - Cherie Turner, married to Nate Turner. she was born into wealth and met Nate at university. She likes discovering new and exciting things and bringing them to the attention of the masses, trying to bring some joy to their lives.

Michelle Hurd - Catherine Turner, known as "C.T.", she met Peter at university and they became inseparable soon after. She's highly in demand as a director of on and off Broadway shows and talked her husband into hiring her to direct his play.

Also starring

Arthur Darvill - Ripley and Roranicus, creators of Centurion Productions, they have a vision and know T.N.T. is the man to bring it to the people.

Amy-Louise Pemberton - Gia, wife of Roranicus, she's an entertainment lawyer and is quite helpful when any entertainment situation arises, helps the twins whenever she can.

Episode 1:

You Can’t Go Home Again

T.N.T. has just moved into his new place and has a stream of visitors, demanding his attention. As T.N.T. unpacks and settles in, Ripley and Roranicus Miller go over his itinerary for the week, what their entertainment highlights for each day will be, subject to change. A gala at a museum one night, a concert in Central Park the next, Richard III performed off Broadway the third night, really selling diverse activities for tourists.

Melody drops by talk about the publicity blitz currently streaming and talking up their project, about to debut. After a while, she lures Ripley away. Gia arrives to go over the final version of their contracts, having caught Ripley on his way out. She leaves with her husband, Roranicus.

Just as he’s about to relax, T.N.T.’s parents arrive, carrying his favourite food to welcome to their building

Episode 2

Sunday at the Museum with T.N.T.

As T.N.T. covers the gala at the museum, designed to raise money to help pay for renovations and interviews the movers and shakers of New York City who are attending, Ripley and Roranicus alert him of changes, an interviewee running late, last minute changes of what needs to be emphasized, his father attends his retirement party at the ad agency where he’s been working since shortly after graduating university. Flashback to last year student Peter meeting first year student Catherine, quickly becoming inseparable. Brother Nate and best friend and now former boss George Fitzgerald.

High jinks ensue as T.N.T. has to roll with small mishaps and keep everything rolling along and entertaining. Gia and Melody hang out behind the scenes with their husbands, helping to keep the show going.

As Peter gets ready for bed, he pulls out his script to read again.

Episode 3

Transitions

Peter’s play is rehearsed as we flashback to a younger Peter working at the ad agency and hustling at night to finish his first play and sell it, to be performed off, off, off, off, off-Broadway. His brother, Nate, has a little influence and brings the play to the attention to the men who can say yes. C.T. brings the play to life with her direction.

In the present, Cherie is looking after one of their backers, who’s having doubts that the play will be successful. T.N.T. and the twins filmed in Central Park and learn to deal with streaming live in an uncontrollable space.

Episode 4

My Kingdom For A Horse

T.N.T. conducts short interviews with Roranicus and Ripley, who’d staged a shortened performance of Richard III at Glastonbury and short Q&A with the cast as available.

Flashbacks of C.T. directing the cast of her husband’s play and Peter worrying over the production, making a few changes on the fly.

Episode 5

Beginnings

Flashbacks to the Roranicus and Ripley meeting T.N.T. and how they convinced him to become their front man, and how Peter and C.T. met and fell in love, with Peter putting his dream of becoming a successful playwright on hold as he meets George and they join the ad agency as a team.

Episode 6

Opening Night

The big night has arrived, and Peter Turner’s play is opening on Broadway. C.T. has prepared the cast as well as she can and the two wait in nervous anticipation for the play to begin.

T.N.T. is covering the opening the opening for Centurion Productions. Melody arrives with Patrick Miller, who has flown over from London specifically to see this play and the coverage provided by Centurion Productions. He strides over to the twins and greets them warmly, calling them Bartholomew and Matthew. Roranicus and Ripley want the floor to open up and the earth to bury them as everyone looks at them, shocked. Patrick continues, surprised they’re still using those ridiculous names from their favourite comic book as kids, “The Traveller and the Centurion” and for goodness’ sake, if anyone had had a modicum of sense, the Centurion would have been named Roranicus, not Ripley and how could they still like that dreadful tripe after all this time.

The digital camera starts rolling and T.N.T. is ON, interviewing his parents as if they were strangers, as the biggest backer (Timothy Hutton) of the play settles in with Cherie, Nate and George.

(The play is an instant hit, and Peter and C.T. become the toast of Broadway as T.N.T.’s viewing numbers continue to soar.)

Please leave comments on fics. It doesn't matter if you don't know what to say I literally made a joke about a space worm. Please comment on fics it'll make the authors day even if its from 9 years ago.

A few weeks ago I read and commented on a fic that had been posted to AO3 in 2013 but had actually been written in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The fandom itself is for a show from the mid 90s and afaik there is no active presence on Tumblr at all.

Both authors responded to my comment by the next day, beyond thrilled to have received it. Both expressed joy in knowing the fandom still lived on in some form and that my comment reminded them of how much fun they had writing the fic together over two decades ago.

Please please please comment on fics -- especially older ones -- even if it's just to leave a heart emoji or a key smash. Doing so really does mean a hell of a lot to the authors.

All of this. Fanfic and fan art are not like advertizer-focused social media, where posts are eaten up by the void within hours or minutes, and novelty is not only encouraged, but expected. Not even like Tumblr, where old posts that circulate are usually those that have remained popular. Fanfic is a smaller space. Outside of specific foci of popular interest, authors aren’t getting bombarded with messages. Your comment can be seen for what it is--the thoughts of a real, live person who took the time to look at something they created.

And that can really brighten somebody’s day.

Absolutely do leave comments on old fics, authors love it! 

But also if you love a fic, like, go ahead and click that author name because the dumbass who wrote that fic you like in 2003 is possibly writing gay romance novels you will enjoy in 2023.

John rolled it around in his head as he looked at the dim lighting shielded by nicotine-stained shades and the grubby wallpaper that a thousand drunks had stumbled against. The carpet had probably been red at some point but was well into being a brownish burgundy now. The seats were threadbare, the brass smudged with years of finger marks and the tables chipped and sticky.

The beer was okay though, which was really the only important thing as far as John was concerned. The company wasn’t bad either, although on the moody side today. That was better than the intense grief of some past days though, so he’d take it. It wasn’t as if John was always the best conversational partner, which meant he had no right to complain about his friend being less than chatty today.

One of the reasons that John had picked this place was that no one would ever expect to find a time traveller having a quick drink with a warlock in a booth in the corner furthest from the door. However, they had still both positioned themselves with a good view of the door, because who knew what might enter and it was good to be ready.

“So, what have they done now?” asked Rip, leaning back and picking at the edge of the leather on the top of the bench.

“It’s less what they’ve done and more where they’ve done it. Sara’s taken them all to the 1920s to try to do away with this idiot called Bishop. She’s got some kind of plan to do with mushrooms.”

“Mushrooms?” asked Rip, disbelief in his voice.

“Mushrooms,” confirmed John.

“She probably has a reason,” said Rip, frowning.

“Not sure she does,” replied John.

“She’s a better Captain than I’ll ever be,” said Rip, staring into his beer.

At least he’d gone for beer not whisky or rum. It would have been a bad sign if he’d started on the hard stuff. John still rolled his eyes at the statement from his friend.

“Like hell she is,” he replied. “She’s more fun than you were for sure, but we both know this gig isn’t about having fun.”

“She pulled the Legends together into a team that actually worked,” said Rip.

“Have you been paying attention? At all?” asked John. “It worked for all of ten minutes and then they were back to bickering and doing their own thing. It might have been okay if you hadn’t gone and blown yourself up with a glowy time thing again, but Sara and Sharpey… nah, never going to work in a month of Sundays. That’s why I’m here, ain’t it?”

“Why did you want to meet? You could have just sent me a message in the usual way. Zed and Chase are quite capable of passing them on.”

“I left,” said John, perhaps more abruptly than he’d intended. “I thought you should know that I’m not keeping an eye on your misfits anymore.”

That got Rip’s attention.

“You left Gideon alone with them?”

“Gideon’s fine,” replied John, taking a long sip of his beer. “Time may not be, but honestly I couldn’t take it anymore.”

“You promised me…”

“I did no such thing,” said John. “You’re the one that buggered off and pretended to be dead.”

“They didn’t want me there,” replied Rip.

“You didn’t want to be there, you mean,” said John.

“It’s my ship, of course I want to be there,” said Rip.

“Just not with them,” said John.

“Just not with them,” agreed Rip, with a sigh.

“So, Sara’s definitely not the best captain then, is she? Even if you did pick her and the team. Perhaps it’s time to admit that this little experiment was a mistake.”

Rip gave John an annoyed look and then gave in.

“They’re just so slap dash,” said Rip, with a gesture at the air. “I can’t bear it. I honestly thought they’d improve if I gave them some responsibility and I wasn’t looking over their shoulder the entire time.”

“When are you going to get your ship back then? It’s well past time,” said John.

“You have rather forced my hand by leaving. At least with both you and Gideon on board I could keep an eye on things. I can’t really let them carry on without supervision, such as it was.”

“What are you saying? I’ve kept them from making some huge mistakes,” replied John, indignantly.

“And managed to make a few of your own by all accounts,” said Rip.

“Damn it, I knew I couldn’t trust your robot girlfriend,” said John.

“She is not my “robot girlfriend”! I hope you didn’t say that in front of her. You’d be showering in ice water for the next month,” said Rip.

“Hey, I’m not stupid,” said John. “Anyway, are we going to get your ship back or what?”

“Are you offering your help?”

“Sure, why not. I’ve got nothing better to do,” said John.

“We should finish our drinks first,” said Rip. “We have time.”

“Oh yeah “a Time Master is always on time”,” mimicked John, and downed his beer in a series of gulps.

“Is there a reason that we’re still friends?” said Rip, also taking several gulps of his beer. “It feels like you spend most of your time poking fun.”

“Me? It’s affectionate ribbing, mate,” said John. “Do you want another?”

He didn’t wait for confirmation and headed over to the bar to order another round. He returned with two more pints and a couple of whiskeys.

“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” asked Rip, eyeing the additional drinks.

“Dutch courage,” said John.

“Why is it that you always lead me astray whenever we’re together?”

“Because you let me and secretly enjoy it,” said John. “Drink up.”

Rip seemed to allow himself the smallest of smiles and then finished his first pint and started in on the second.

“Do you have a plan for how you’re going to get the ship back?” asked John.

“Of course, ever since I left,” said Rip, “but realistically, she’s always been my ship. I’m just taking back what is mine.”

“So, one of your codes then. What was that one you used last time? Treacle Jubilee Asshat?”

Rip gave John a very long suffering look.

“I believe it was Silver Broken Tiger,” he replied holding up a finger. “And you may mock, but I didn’t see you complaining at the time.”

John gave him a slight lopsided shrug and a smirk.

“Yeah, yeah, it’s all very clever.”

“The Legends won’t want to leave,” said Rip. “I think our best bet is to render them unconscious and then offload them at a safe location.”

“Didn’t you once tell me that there is no safe way to render a person unconscious, possibly whilst spoiling my fun with some drugs?”

“I may have,” said Rip, suddenly very interested in his beer. “But maybe you could use a sleeping spell instead.”

“Best Captain Sara will see that a mile off. She’s gotten good at spotting my subterfuge. Drink your beer and then we’ll see if we can come up with something better.”

John didn’t complain when Rip bought the next pint and more shots of whiskey. Rip didn’t complain when John bought the following round. Neither of them were in any state to complain when they stumbled to the bar and somehow were allowed to buy another two shots of whiskey. They propped each other up as they left the bar, slurring about their plans to deal with returning to the Waverider as they stumbled into the cold night air of the London street.

John could feel the way winter tried to sober him up, but he’d had way too much alcohol for even the cold to do the trick. He swayed, his arm linked through Rip’s as they walked.

“I don’t think we can do the Waverider thing t’nigh’,” slurred Rip.

“Going to have to be t’mrrow now,” said John, in agreement. “Drunk spell castin’ isn’t a great idea. Look what happen t’ Chas.”

“Yeah, tomo…tomorr… tomorrow,” said Rip, getting it on the third try. “Your place or mine?”

“Well, mine’sinanother country righ’ now,” replied John, slurring, then tripping over his own feet and bumping into the wall beside him.

“Mine’s a time ship and not… well, still not mine again,” said Rip, sadly.

“Oh fuck no, you don’ get to be sad,” said John. “Les’ get us a hotel. We’ll fix this in the mornin’”

“Yeah,” said Rip, and leaned against John, who leaned back against him. “In the mornin’!”

“Oh for heaven’s sake!” said a voice from behind them.

Both men turned around to see a dark haired woman in a black leather jacket, black jeans and a grey low-cut top. She held what appeared to be a replica of Rip’s gun.

“Gideon?” asked Rip, and then added more loudly and brightly, “Gideon!”

“Mr Constantine, I believe I asked you to do one thing and that was to get Captain Hunter back to the Waverider,” said the woman, apparently Gideon. “I said nothing about getting both you and him drunk.”

“Yes, love,” said John. “Leather suits you. I had no idea you’d look that good in the flesh. How did that happen then?”

Rip rolled his eyes.

“Stop flirting with my robot girlfriend,” said Rip, crossly, and then quickly put a hand over his mouth.

John laughed at his look of horror.

“He called you his girlfriend! He told me off earlier for that!”

“Robot…” added Rip, very quietly. “Not robot. She is my girlfriend. Sort of. I’m sorry… It just sort of came out. It was all John’s fault and I miss you.”

“Hey!” interjected John.

“Luckily I understand that being inebriated can lead to unguarded outbursts and the incorrect use of language,” said Gideon, holstering her sidearm at her hip. “Come on, we’ve got to get back to the Waverider. I’ve kicked the Legends out and we have work to do.”

Rip and John looked at each other.

“She kicked the Legends out…” said John.

“Just like that…” said Rip. “No codes, no planning.”

“Do you know, I think we might both have been wrong about the best Captain thing,” said John.

Rip nodded, and then they both looked at Gideon and spoke at once.

“Gideon’s the best captain.”

Gideon grinned, and then tapped the buttons on the Time Courier on her wrist. A portal outlined in light opened up and on the other side the Waverider’s interior could be seen.

“This way, gentlemen,” she said, and strode through the portal.

John shrugged and followed, dragging a rather wobbly Rip after him.

1. Comfort Dance

Rip looked at Gideon sitting in the parlour curled up on herself. She hadn’t been herself since turning human and he hated to see her in such sadness. She was having a hard time adjusting and nothing seemed to help. He walked in quietly and put down the cup of tea. She ignored it completely.

Without a word he put on a record, one of her favourite songs. Then he stood in front of her, hand outstretched. She looked at it blankly and then at him, a frown on her face. He pulled her to her feet and placed her arms around his neck, and put his on her waist.

“Captain-”

“Shhh, we’re dancing.”

“I don’t know how.”

“Then perhaps, for once, you will allow me to lead.”

He spun her around before she could retort. She stepped on his feet and crashed into him. But by the end, her soft smile was worth a few bruised toes.
