“Love is my message.” your boyfriend's voice backed by Don’t stop ‘Til You Get Enough filtered from the tv and onscreen you watched him blink hard like something got caught in his eye and turn his face from the camera smiling like he knew he messed that up.
You looked at Michael who had his arm around you as you sat together on your couch trying to contain your giggles. “So wha do ya think?” he asked voice soft, like usual, seeking your input. You for your part tried so hard not to laugh in his cute face. But ultimately you failed and nearly doubled over.
“Baby what is it?” he asked, smiling down at you laughing at his ad nearly on the floor at this point. “It’s not that bad, is it?”
You eventually calmed down enough to catch your breath and looked back up at him. “Just…could you wink for me real quick? I'm tryna see something.” You looked at him expectantly and he looked away from your gaze shyly.
“What why?” he questioned smiling a bit confused. You kept staring and he eventually caved then turned his head away then back to you slowly. “Love is my message.” and he did it again a full blink and this time you slapped a hand over your mouth and he frowned. “What is it?”
“You don’t see the complete darkness? When you wink?” you asked through a fit of giggles as you gestured to his face.
“I meant to do that, it was supposed to be a joke.” he spoke not very convincingly.
“Okay so wink for real this time.” you challenged giving him a side eye. He just smiled all teeth and scrunched his lips up at you pretending to think about it “Nah I don’t think I will. I don’t gotta prove myself to you.”
“Oh come on, just admit you can’t wink.” you crossed your arms smiling at him.
“Nope.” you eventually dropped the thing and settled back next to him and he gave you a self satisfied smile.
You’d get him to do it one day.
