i shook when i thought about this day. felt scared to the nerves of me. i used to wake up panting after dreaming you fell out of love with me. a year ago was the last time i felt secure in the idea that you loved me. you know when a future feels so solid you could shake it in a snowglobe. it was like that, you know.

i’ve lost a lot of things over the past year. my pride, my dreams, my mind. i thought i’d break down if i lost you too. like i was some kind of car you drove until the steering shot through. i wake up and i make a different dream. i wake up and i piece myself back together even if it’s with my own heartstrings i’m sewing. i wake up alone but i don’t wake up cold.

yeah, you’re gone. and i survived that. and something in that makes me better than i was before.
