Saturday 4/19: Decision Day!
This Saturday is Decision Day! Find me at Mentor's Circle at the College of Earth, Ocean and Environment table from 12-1! I hope your decision is easy :)
I'm going to be majoring in Geoscience and possibly a minor in Coastal and Marine Geoscience. I was wondering have you done any internships or summer or winter programs dealing with marine science yet? Also, how hard is your major(is it manageable)? Thank You for the help:)
Hi! I had a very rewarding summer experience as a counselor for TIDE camp, Taking Interest in Delaware’s Estuaries. We went on marsh walks, built ROVs (remote operated vehicles) and even tested them in the UD pool. There are loads of ways to get involved with marine science, including study abroad like you mentioned. I went to Ecuador and the Galapagos, and New Zealand, on two separate January-term trips. They were incredible. I wrote about them earlier this week so if you scroll a little bit further down my page, you will see the answers to that question! As for the major, Geoscience is certainly a little different than my Environmental/Marine major but it is definitely manageable. I am still involved in numerous other activities on and off campus, and even find time to do some fun things. It is a lot of work but it’s all worth it to study what you really want to study!
Coming soon!

Where have you studied abroad as a Marine Science Major?
I studied abroad in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands in January 2012, and studied tropical ecology and plants of Ecuador there. We lived on a yacht for half the trip and saw every amazing thing I ever wished to see- best trip of my life. Then I went to New Zealand during January 2013 and studied coastal field biology and marine invertebrate diversity. The ocean was our classroom and it was incredible!
What's your favorite part about being a Marine Science major?
My favorite part about studying marine science is being in the College of Earth, Ocean and Environment (CEOE). I have loved the classes I have taken in the College, and the faculty are especially amazing! Being a small college, we have personal relationships with our professors and even the Dean and Assistant Dean of CEOE. I couldn’t imagine my college experience without the professors and my Deans that have guided me throughout every process and truly made my experience incredible. We are even taken out to dinner at Caffe Gelato when we make Dean’s list! That doesn’t happen in any other college, let alone the personal relationships that make you feel like a truly important student, and not just 1 in a sea of 4000 students that make up your future graduating class.
Cause this makes sense... Beautiful day in #vienna with #desteel
Fun day exploring the city of Vienna with my Delaware Steel girls!
It's been a while
I know it's been a while since I've written about college life... where did the time go?! Second semester senior year is flying by and I'm wondering when that happened. I seriously feel like I'm stuck in sophomore year... but I'm about to graduate in a few weeks.
How is everyone else feeling about Spring and school... is it busy? Exciting? Has everyone made their college decisions... UD anyone?! :)
Decision Days are coming up... perfect days to help you... decide! April 12 and 19- I'll be there!
So proud of our delicious turkey veggie chili! YUM
Thank you, thank you very much! 😛

Not even the top of the 300 foot Honduran Pico Bonito waterfall. Beautiful!!!
Good morning to you too, Mommy 😁😛
I came home for winter THE NIGHT BEFORE all of this happened! Go figure.... less than an inch in New Jersey, yet all of this in Delaware?! At least I have friends' pictures to share :)
I applied to udel and was wonder what your SAT/ACT scores were and GPA so I have a better view of my chances
Hello! I’m sorry it has taken me a little while to get back to you! Thanksgiving break came so quickly and now it’s Sunday and I’ll be getting ready to go back to UD in a few hours!
I think the best way to answer your questions would be to direct you to this link: http://www.udel.edu/admissions/for/freshmen.html where it will show you the middle 50% of students that were admitted to University of Delaware in past years. In my opinion, the SAT scores and GPA of one student will matter much less than the overall quality of the student. By that I mean: your personality (that will shine through in your application essay), what you write your essay about and how (be creative! I think my sister was an M&M in her essay…) and your extracurricular activities and involvement while in high school. All of those things combined make you the student that you are and UD is looking for a well-rounded student- not necessarily a student with perfect grades.
Let me know if you have any more questions! I’m happy to answer if I can! Good luck :)
