Most of Night Raven College would say that Floyd's moodswings are lethal, something one has to fear and avoid.
To Jade, that only meant Floyd needed a little bit more loving.
Floyd's so-called moodswings come without warning, at any time of the day. The slightest fluctuation surrounding the Moray could lead him to losing complete interest in an activity he had been bouncing off the walls for.
It would come off as an annoyance to people who need his cooperation, such as Basketball Club or Mostro Lounge shifts. But Floyd couldn't care less ー it'll be better for everyone if he stopped doing what he was doing instead of creating a bigger mess for them to clean.
Jade understands.
He would always jump in and cover for his twin to quell the wrath of their surroundings. He would always put a hand on his back, a silent message to tell Floyd to take off before anyone could land a jab at him.
But twins aren't going to stay together for eternity. One day, Floyd and Jade would find dreams of their own to pursue, and eventually leave each other.
"Floyd, can you *please* focus?!"
The Basketball Club's team captain yelled, his voice shrill in Floyd's ears. He had lost his motivation in the middle of their practice match, a yawn escaping his lips.
In Floyd's eyes, Basketball is a fun land-dweller sport. And he loves it! But when you have someone constantly yelling orders at you, you would naturally end up irritated.
"Ha? I'm not continuing this stupid game. You're too noisy," The Moray scoffed, throwing the ball away.
The captain was angry. The preliminaries for their upcoming competition was just around the corner, yet none of his teammates seemed willing to match his pace.
"You're quitting because I'm noisy?!" The Captain seethed. "Don't be such a brat! And don't you dare walk away ー your brother won't always be here to create excuses for you!"
The mention of Jade had Floyd's blood boiling. He knew that the Captain's words rung true, and that Jade wouldn't always be there despite being the only one who truly understood the root of his mood swings.
But Jade wasn't Floyd's personal helper. Jade wasn't someone who only exists to cover for him. Jade wasn't someone who'd correct all of Floyd's wrongs because they were twins.
Jade steps in because he wanted to.
Not because Floyd demands him to.
The Moray didn't remember what happened next. He faintly recalled his fist landing on someone's face, before everything turns into a blur.
"Are you alright, Floyd?"
Still clad in his club uniform, Floyd curled up under the blankets in his bed. Jade seemed genuinely concerned, unlike his usual faux worry while his lips curls up into a smile.
Floyd was lost in thought, unresponsive to Jade's calls. His Captain's earlier outburst had gave him some food for thought ー did Jade feel as if covering for his outbursts is a must because they were siblings? Had he ever thought that it was a hassle?
He'd ever been afraid of Jade leaving him before, even after bloody fights and punches to the face. But as unreadable as Jade is, Floyd doesn't always catch on to what was in his head.
Despite his lack of response earlier, Jade caught that Floyd was probably deep in thought. He laid down beside the blanket-clad figure, the mattress sinking under their weight.
"You're so silent... How unlike you." He mumbled, wrapping his arms around (what he would assume as) Floyd's waist. "Something happened at club practice, hm?"
Floyd reluctantly melted into his touch. He turned to face Jade, entwining their legs together. "Mm. It's not a big deal."
"Really now? Then why are you sulking like this?"
Jade nudged the blanket away from Floyd's face. Just like their childhood days under the sea, the two laid by each other's side, wrapped around each other for hours on end.
"Just thinking."
"That's even rarer!"
Floyd glared at Jade, who giggled. "Ah, at least I can still pull out other expressions from you."
Floyd sighed at the other's antics before snuggling closer, resting his head on Jade's shoulder. "Hey, Jade. Aren't ya tired of cleaning after my messes?" he started. "You know I don't expect you to do that."
"I'm well aware," Jade replied. "I'd do it even if you don't ask me to."
"That's the problem!" Floyd sat up, cheeks puffed out. "People think you're only around to clean up after me. That you'll eventually leave because you're tired of my antics."
Jade's eyes widen, surprised at the heavy topic. He sat up as well, placing a chaste kiss on Floyd's cheek.
"And do you believe them?"
"Hell no."
"There you have it," Jade smiled. "I'm not leaving any time soon."
He started to trace Floyd's jaw with feather-light kisses, from the base of his face up to his ear. Floyd sat still, letting himself enjoy Jade's comfort.
"Do you want to know why I do it? Perhaps it will take your mind off the thought."

The next day,
"Leech! Jade Leech!" The basketball team captain stomped towards Jade, halting him in the middle of the busy school corridors. Jade gave him a question raise of an eyebrow.
"Is there anything I can help you with?"
"It's your infuriating brother! You see this black eye? He punched me out of nowhere just yesterday!"
Jade observed the black eye for a moment, before bursting out in laughter. He waved the captain off, side-stepping him to resume his route towards the greenhouse.
"Well, I'd say you deserved that black eye if you managed to rile Floyd up so much.'
"So why do you do it? Always covering for me?"
"Well... Their angry faces are always so amusing to see. Pfft, seeing their ears glow red and their cheeks puff out like a spooked pufferfish ー I simply can't help but to have a laugh first! I'd say it's a win-win in both of our favors ♡"
Enraged curses and booming laughter echoed through the halls of Valhalla as the Trickster Loki successfully pulled yet another prank on Ares, the God of War.
Though honestly, it wasn't that impressive of a prankーAres was just too easy to fool. Dress up like Zeus, speak to him for a few seconds, then use illusions to blow up into confetti.
The prank seemed to have angered Ares so much as he had thought his dear Father *actually* blew up into smithereens.
"My, how lively."
Gentle footsteps ー almost inaudible ー took Loki's attention. Like a shadow, Hermes had appeared behind him. Perhaps to help his dear brother, or perhaps to join in on the fun.
"Valhalla's been too lax lately, a little bit of pranks won't hurt." Loki grinned, floating mid-air where Ares couldn't reach. "Besides, I don't know if it's just your brother being a little lacking in the head or if it really is that easy to fool the Gods around here."
"Why you-?!"
Hermes laughed, before feigning guilt for doing so in front of his currently miserable brother. "I wonder indeed. Maybe the Gods need something to rouse their spirits."
"Rouse their spirits, huh...?" Loki grinned, perching his arms on Hermes's shoulders. "Then what do you say you join me on doing just that?"
Unfortunately for Ares (who thought his brother was there to help him), Hermes agreed. The Norse and the Greek walked side by side, planning whatever atrocities they had in mind to pull on other victims.
Perhaps Ares should report this to Zeus.
"You little shits-!”
"Aah! My painting!"
"Who broke my lyre?!"
Loki and Hermes, both escaping from the crime scene in full speed, shared giggles with each other. Like mischievous little kids, they ran around wreaking havoc and hiding away before anyone would have noticed.
It was a good thing Hermes was the God of Speed as well, Loki thought. Usually he'd have to run and dodge a lot of the others' attacks while fleeing the scene.
"Haha! Didn't expect you to be so cruel, Hermes. Using honey mead to make them slip? I'm beginning to think you were just holding back from doing pranks all this time!"
"Me, cruel? Oh, how could I be? I'm simply... Using my surroundings as inspiration." He grinned, never once losing his composure and elegance.
Most would have suspected Loki for pulling pranks, but Hermes? He was the last person one would even think of condemning.
"Where shall we go next, O God of Speed?"
"Hmm, let's see... Perhaps the Japanese Pantheon-"
Feeling an attack directed at them from two ways, Loki and Hermes immediately jumped to avoid it. Once the rubble settled down, the two saw their respective fathers - Zeus and Odin - giving them an accusatory glare.
"What on Valhalla are you two doing?" Odin glowered while his two crows squawked. Zeus was juat as enraged, one arm ready to throw another punch. "Who started this?!"
Oh, but Loki and Hermes had been spending such a fun time! There's no way they would let it end so abruptly, right?
"He did."
"He did."
Both didn't even spare a millisecond before blaming the other for the chaos. Loki gave Hermes a look of disbelief, while Hermes returned his gaze with a disappointed sigh.
"I trusted you, Loki. But alas, you were the one who started this entire thing..."
"Nonsense! If it weren't for you putting the idea in my head, I wouldn't have agreed to this."
Needless to say, the two Gods were dragged back to their respective pantheons for proper disciplinary action.
There's been a lot of times where the fighters' attacks are simply too incredible for the untrained eye to see (eg. QSH's ability to see Qi and return the force of attacks) and most of the onlookers would have no idea what happened before their fighters were injured
But it seems like Hermes (just like Zeus, Loki, Hades, etc.) is able to see them and perfectly debunk their strategies. Even Ares, the God of War, couldn't perfectly deduce how the attacks work.
Hermes is the 10th Olympian after all, he would be strong to have landed such a position. He's able to catch and understand things that only the top-tier Gods had been able to realize. Maybe being the Messenger God = he has observational skills greater than the rest?
I think that shows how Hermes might actually be quite strong himself, simply keeping his cover of a subservient company so no one picks a fight, or so he can keep a low profile 🤨
