i've been ok ! kind of taking it slow on here in terms of shiftblr activity lmfao, i post every now and then, mostly reblog, i'm actually working on a post rn !!

i've been really enjoying getting back into scripting (well, scripting by making posts and pinterest boards), approaching shifting from a space of creativity rather than a space of obligation and validation really helps

I totally agree on the approaching it as a space for creativity! part of why i abandoned my old account was to start fresh and not be seeking validation with my posts. it's been much more chill for me since then.

i've been okay? my health has taken a dive so I've been low on extra energy to actually do shifting things (outside of scripting in my head) because all my energy goes to uni work. buttttt im hoping summer break will give me more capacity to make shifting fun again.

godddd yeah i totally understand !! i feel like i got trapped in that spiral for validation, not that it’s wrong to want it, but even when i feel kind of.. nostalgic? for the days where i felt like i had a larger impact on the community? i just need to take a step back and realise how concerningly influencer-y that mindset is 🫢

so real yes!! i think the want for validation makes us human, to desire to be recognized for the work we put into something ( *cough* especially as an effect of our capitalist society). But i think letting it control us into doing things for other people's eyes is when it becomes dangerous/draining.

but thats so still so real I fear. breaking out of that headspace is hard so good on you!!

exactly!! I think I've started giving less of a fuck what people think this year in sooo many areas, so this was an inevitable change. im happy for the most part with it! (though sometimes its hard not to miss the validation)

thank you love <3 it's been a journey. i have a few suspicions for what might be going on, but *shrug* what can you do. physical health wise, I might be getting myself a cane soon to help out so that's exciting (not because I need it, but because its gonna help soooo much). thank you!! i have all of july off + a good part of august so I'm taking advantage of it before i hop into the chaos that is my last year 😭

⚹ grand sea · who do you consider a turbulent, yet beautiful, force of nature in your reality? unpredictable, yet just as magnetic?

gods i feel so basic for this answer. BUT that doesn't make it less true. it's my partner fr. she's my qpp (queerplatonic partner) in this reality & because she exists here I'll just call her 𝓐.

she's just such a force of nature. I have no idea where she gets all that energy. she tells me that she feels the most sane when she's upside down. when she gets excited about something its all she can talk about. she just rambles and gets these crinkles in her eyes and AH- i adore her.

in this reality's lore, 𝓐 works as a waitress @ her family's restaurant & I am always lurking in a back booth to be socially awkward because idk how to signal I want to be friends (idk how humans work guys. I'm a mermaid & autistic). she eventually demands friendship and ends up being one of the few I let in on my secret. she gets so excited its adorable. I take her out on the reef and show her my favorite spots regularly.

⚹ skates on gravel · what’s your favourite summer activity that makes you feel alive? is it a tradition? is it solitary or not? if not, who’s involved?

oooh hard question honestly. my version of a good summer day is usually hanging out inside (with a window open, if the weather cooperates), or deep below the surface to hide from said weather. because I'm a goth who melts in the heat because I choose to wear all black year round like a very smart person.

but I suppose my favorite summer activity is celebrating the solstice. me and my aunt Del will make sun tea & reflect on the ups and down of the year so far, and then I'll do a sunset swim out of the harbor to celebrate the longest day of the year. it's such a energetically rich time and I really do love it.

on the regular though, I really do enjoy getting out to draw from life. whether that be whilst hiding in the back booths of cafes or restaurants, or sitting on the beach to capture the sun shining of the water just right. if im feeling brave, I'll shove my sketchbook into a waterproof bag and take my art to mako island (and pray that the bag doesnt leak)

⚹ thriving blooms · is there something you can do during summer that you can’t during other seasons (whether it be due to the weather, the time of the year, or something else)?

living on the southern california coast means that summer is basically year round (ignore that i changed the mako mermaids lore, i refuse to live in australia). except, like, the two weeks of mild fall. but, i tend to spend a lot more time on land over the summer. as more tourists show up during a socal summer, avoiding the winter of their own hometowns, which can make it hard to get out of the harbor without being spotted.

however, summer is the season of my second favorite land holiday—summerween. there's a seasonal shop that's only open for summerween and like the month beforehand, and I adore it sm. humans really knew what they were doing with this one. so, having legs over most of june/july isn't so bad at all.

⋆.˚ 𓇼 edalyn crowley is an enigma. eddie to her friends―of which she has very few. a gaze as intense as a storm over the sea and a habit of only speaking when she absolutely had to, eddie is pretty much a mystery to most of the inhabitants of gold coast. with no real history before arriving in town, most people joke that eddie randomly washed up on shore one day and decided to stay. they have no idea how true that is.

°‧ 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 ·｡ originally born into the north-atlantic pod, I grew up as a bit of a weirdo, even by mermaid standards. I was fascinated by old stories and folklore and loved singing the ancient melodies. i felt like i was speaking the language of the sea itself.

however, I didn't know the strength of my own voice, and I accidentally charmed someone. I tried to save them, I tried my hardest, but there was nothing to be done.

the legends of sirens spread just as widely and dangerously under the sea as they did on land. sirens have always been seen as the darker, dangerous counterpart to the pods. those who swam alone in the most deadly parts of the sea, luring others to join them.

the revelation of my abilities fractured my pod's trust in me. and i was cast out.

heartbroken for a long time, i eventually washed up far from home―down on the unfamiliar shores of the south pacific. it was dangerous to stay, with the mako pod so close by and all, but the woman who pulled me from the sea with the kindest smile on her face―she made it risk worth it. the woman became my aunt del, and she helped me find this new life for myself.

i've managed to stay undetected for years now. but, the three obviously mer girls who wandered into the cafe basically looking for trouble? by all the seas, they're gonna blow my fucking cover.
