to every junior and senior in high school who is thinking nonstop about college: i have a reminder for you.

here’s what going to happen: an admissions officer is going to look at your transcript. they’re gonna look at your grades, they’re gonna look at your extracurriculars, they’re gonna look at your test scores.

you will be turned into a few numbers on a page.

and they will decide your worth to them, to the university they work at, in a few minutes.

but that is absolutely not your worth. don’t you ever think for even a fucking second that it is.

you are so much more than a number.

the SAT cannot measure your creativity, your empathy, your kindness. the ACT cannot begin to understand your boldness, your curiosity, your passion. there is not a test out there that can assign a number to your worth as a human being.

and whether or not you get accepted into whatever university, your earn whatever scholarship, you ace whatever test, they can’t take away your worth.

i see you. i see your achievements, small and large. i see the way you’re there for your friends. i see the way you overcame that huge struggle, even though you felt like you never would. i see the way you care about other people, strangers or not. that is where your worth lies.

spend your time with people who see you as more than a number. because you ARE more than a number.
