“i remember when i was your age, i was focusing on school only.“ she says, pure astonishment in her voice, smile widely placed on her lips. in all honesty, hyuna was always impressed with the young trainee’s putting so much effort into everything. form training to school, hyuna could only imagine how hard it could be. she had her fair share of juggling university and training until nova made her drop out due to their survival show, but it wasn’t that bad.

“if you need any help with school, hit me up! i used to tutor kids your age a few years ago.“ hyuna adds, nodding her head a bit as she remembers how fun that actually was. “got a favorite subject?“ she asks, before taking a bite from her salad. their meal times were always a place where the rapper could get to know all the trainees and spend time with them. she is aware that she could be seem as... intimidating, numerous reason flowing through her head, but she wanted to be close to as many of the trc trainee’s as possible. sometimes she would take the risk of them not liking her.

languages is always something that seongmin enjoys talking about, he always wished he could focus more on languages in school opposed to the general studies that are forced upon his weary 16 year old soul. that being said, his grades are fine--he tends to stay ahead of his classmates even being a trainee. which is another factor into school being boring for him.

“hmm.. lately japanese.” he admits, eyes glancing briefly at the older girl before going back to his food as he finally takes a bite. mulling over the question a little more as he swallows. “i’m fluent in mandarin and cantonese already---hate english but meh..” he continues. he’s also technically really good with english but the language is so annoying to learn compared to japanese which has been fun to learn.

“i dont know if im going to uni--mom wants me to but i rather go to culinary school.” the idea of going to culinary school has always been a dream. he knows his mom will support him in whatever but he also knows she wished he would go to uni for something more steady--doctor, lawyer, business man--but he would hate that.

another month, another evaluation. 

seongmin didn’t understand when his classmates who were already trainee’s would complain about training being the same thing all the time. he didn’t get it even after his first few months. but now? at his one year of being a trc trainee? he’s kind of getting it. 

the teen could kind of see what they were getting at because even though each evaluation has been a different task it’s still the same concept. and maybe that’s just a set up to a punch line that seongmin can’t quite understand yet. maybe it’s just proof that the idol life style isn’t as great as people want to believe. the same thing day in and day out while having to please people who will never really think you’re worth anything.

but then again seongmin supposes he also already knew this from his cousin. 

not that it matters all that much, the teen knows this is the path he wants to take. and as he sets up with his team for their performance. he knows he wants to debut one day and to really stand on stage. to perform music made for him, or even by him. 

he doesn’t feel like it’s the same exhausting thing every month because he enjoys it. which is also why he won’t be bothered if they win or lose, because he knows he has so much more to learn still and the sheer fact he has the chance to prove himself like this. to work and learn and achieve the path he’s always dreamed of. 

well. this really is just another step towards his future. 

rapping comes easily to him. the song has been run through his head since the beginning of the month and even if he wasn’t already comfortable with rapping he knew he would be fine. honestly, seongmin wonders if these evaluations should be two week bases or something just because a month is so easy to prepare a single song. not that he’s really complaining. 

and he will admit to himself that he has enjoyed working with this group. so different from when he normally teams up with dongmin or seungjoon. but chanyeol is someone he has worked with before and it was nice getting to know the others. 

he just hopes the coaches can see how much work they’ve put in.

this whole class thing is kind of cool. 

though to and extent it reminded doyum of the time that nova was doing all of those extra classes. he remembers those rather fondly as it had been during one of those classes he was about to talk to his idol ricky. but this time around he wasn’t just someone taking a class, he gets to help along side the instructor of the course convex oh sehun. which like is wild for doyum so he could only imagine what his best friend is going through. 

“think you’re going to be able to keep your cool during this?” he asked her, teasing as always. though he had been pretty hyped himself when he got the offer, convex isn’t one of his ults. he knew if they had ended up with someone from eclipse or luxe– or heaven forbid, per_se– that it would be doyum losing it. as it stands, he gets to poke fun at her this time around. “be kind of lame if you fangirled the whole class.”

     she’s still shaking. 

     okay, no she’s not. they had all met up after it had been announced they would be the helpers, and they had even worked together with sehun to do something special for the class. but she’s still pretty amazed at the opportunity that had arisen for her to work with not only her best friend, but also one of her favourite idols. it’s like a dream come true, and she keeps having to pinch herself to remind herself that she’s not actually dreaming. 

     “hey, i already freaked out at you after we found out,” hyojeong points out, grinning at her best friend. honestly, this is literally everything she could’ve dreamed of. and on top of that, this is technically the official reveal of her being a trainee! it’s great, though she’s pretty sure nothing will change aside from the fact that she can actually post pictures of herself in the nova practice rooms. “i’m excited to see who shows up though.”

despite his teasing, he was kind of feeling excited himself. convex is a group he liked along side hyojeong though she definitely took the cake on stanning them. and they were working with one of the members, someone who isn't even that much older than them yet is already so popular. Plus the experience of teaching the class itself is going to be something worthwhile and hopefully put them on the spotlight in the eyes of the companies.

Perhaps the CEOs would even see that they work really well together might consider putting them in a coed group.  though he knows the chances of that happening are slim to none considering he only knows one coed group. Still being able to work with her like this was nice. "I'm sure we'll end up with a lot of convex fans, yeah? you'll have to prove yourself as the true number one stan." he chuckled.

Oh if only he could have worked with someone from eclipse.

a battle to win

feeling confident about an evaluation was like a breath of fresh air, something he only felt during the first one if he recalls correctly. everything was working in his favor: his vocals were his strongest asset, his mind could focus on one thing, he liked his group and singing one of his sunbae's songs was a great joy, the only problem was the competition part. while it could be fun and friendly, seunghun felt pressured and suddenly not as confident. he lacked competitiveness even if he went through way too many contests the past year to feel weird about it. 

but he wanted to win. the opposite wouldn't hurt his pride or anything, but if they were doing this, the best response he could get about his future in the company would be doing well and winning that trip to busan. so he walks into the practice room to go over his lines again and make sure everything was in its right place for the performance in a couple of weeks. opening the door, he spots the youngest of them. "hey, what are you up to?" he asks with a grin. "mind if join you? i wanted to practice a bit before our next lesson... since we gotta win, huh?” maybe it wasn’t as important as the coaches made it sound, but at the very least they shouldn’t disappoint “we could do it together if you’re not busy with something else."

its amusing to seongmin that a lot of his current hyungs in trc are more of the "bright emotion" type. the fellow trainees he has to spend most of his time with everyday are so much brighter than he is even on his good days. he knows he isn't one for emotional displays, he doesn't share a smile with anyone ( aside from his boyfriend ) who hasn't dont any thing too aweinspiring. his tone and expression always monotone and blank. it's just his nature, even when tired or excited he keeps the same expressions.

yet once more he's faced with someone who seems to find smiling naturally easy and who can talk and talk with out a single worry. seunghun is someone he hasn't spent a whole lot of time with but the older definitely gives off cheerful vibes. it's only proceeds to make seongmin more stoic. "mhm, that's fine." he replies, sitting up a bit straighter as he sets the lyric sheet down so that he could aim to do it without looking at the sheet. something he'll need to be able to do during the performance anyway.

though seunghun doesn't seem ready, which is fine as seongmin needed a moment to run over the lyrics in his head. he's a triple threat for a reason-- being able rap or sing is expected of him , though he will admit to being excited to rap. preferring that to singing. "I'm not nervous." he replied easily after a moment. "I've been here a year now, it's typical." the monthly evaluation can differ in concepts, theme and execution of what the coaches are expecting them at the end of the day it's all the same thing. It's the same idea of working with the other trainees to put together some kind of performance to prove that they're getting better every month.

jordan still didn’t really know what to think of this evaluation. the fact it was just a vocal performance was a little worrying as he didn’t have incredibly strong vocals, but the fact this was supposed to be some battle of the companies was something else. now he was competitive person and would be lying if he said he wasn’t vying for that first place. being named the best group would no doubt be a nice achievement to pin to their chests. 

“so, hope you have as much motivation to win this as i do,” he offered to the youngest of the team with a wide smile, “we’re obviously going to prove that we are all super talented.” and jordan didn’t have a doubt that the others around him were talented. it was just himself he was a little worried about in the long run. but he hoped the talent around him would help disguise his maybe weaker vocals. it also helped that he had offered not to have that many lines as well to allow others to shine instead.

the teen’s eyes rose onto the older, someone he hasn't actively spent a lot of time which. not that seongmin is the most friendly of trainees in trc, the teen preferring to stick to the company that he already knows. but since they're in the same eval group together it's only natural that seongmin would need to converse with Jordan. 

“I just want it to be done.” He answers honestly, tone as monotone and uninterested as it always is as he goes back to tapping out the beat to the song on his leg. he’s competitive only to an extent but he also doesn't like to let anyone else know that he's competitive. He feels like it gives away to much of a weakness. regardless. “I doubt there's any reward for coming out on top.” he says that in as much of a positive tone that he can. which… is still pretty monotone.

compared to most people, chanyeol wouldn’t say he was an awful singer. he’s average on his best days, barely passable on others. admittedly, it’s not a skill he focuses on too heavily, whether it’s during training, or during his free time, but he thinks he’s good enough to sing a line or two if it were needed. luckily, he doesn’t have to rely on it too often, and when he has had to show what little vocal chops he did have, he only had to rely on his own abilities without having to worry about a group dynamic. unfortunately, time has run out for him on that front. sure, he doesn’t have any solo singing lines in the song, and for that, he’s thankful, given a competitive edge on the line in addition to a group effort, but there are harmonies in the song that require a precision that he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to nail. if he doesn’t hit the right notes, he runs the risk of completely ruining the sound, and he doesn’t want to let the others down. he may not have a competitive bone in his body, but he knows at least one of them does, and the others may even be hiding that edge behind their smiles.

it’s why he’s hunting down one of his group mates now, hoping he hasn’t got anything planned even though the normal hours for training has ended. he spots seongmin fairly quickly, and he’s bounding toward the younger with that same spring in his step, puppy dog eyes at the ready. “hey, seongmin,” he greets the younger, smile wide, even if he feels bad considering how young he is and how late training usually ends. “are you headed home? i was wondering if you’d go through a few runs of our evaluation song with me.”

the end of the day means that it's time to go home and sleep so you can go to school and or start another long day at training. If it wasn't for the fact that he had a really good standing in school seongmin sometimes wondered if his mother would let him just drop out and focus fully on training. The only thing that he thinks would keep her from letting him is the fact that he is still young and only a second year in high school and there is no guarantee that he'll ever debut in this company. as much as he works hard there could be a day that he doesn't end up debuting, that the company just throws him to the wind and he’ll only have the backing of his school behind. 

 No he supposes that isn't too much of a worry considering the fact that he is a top person in his grade right now and that has always been the way it's been since he's been in school. School really is just boring for someone who understands all of the material without thinking too hard on it. Of course he can't claim to be an all knowing student in school as he does spend a lot of time studying when he's not training, sleep has become something that he really only uses whenever he has an absolute moment of free time such as in the summer or in winter break. wh needs sleep when you have so much to do.

that being said he’s still tired at the end of the day and eagerly looking forward to getting home and into bed where he can curl up and sleep peacefully for a few hours. those dreams are broken when a  very familiar voice comes calling out to him as he's walking down the hall at the end of the day. Tired eyes turn to the older male who stops next to him gazing up at the tall sunbae with an almost invisible frown. “hyung?” he spoke hesitantly almost worried to actually respond Niki maybe he should've just ignored the voice. Ah. “just a few runs?... sure.” ah, he really should have just turned him down but seongmin likes this hyung to much and does want to be helpful when he can. a few extra minutes wouldn't hurt right.

his head raises from the lyric sheet he had been quietly reading over. The song isn’t an overly complicated one and it’s not as if seongmin isn't comfortable with both rapping and singing, but he still needed to get the rhythm and melody down. a flash of Recognition crosses his face whenever he sees who has into the room with them. seunghun hyung isn't someone seongmin would claim to be very close to, heknows it's mainly his own fault as he’s been keeping to himself more these days. spending time with hyojeong in seocho when he cans but otherwise just training by himself. partly just because he's been tired what with school started up again and so he's been balancing school and training together. 

“I don't mind.” he answered quietly, shaking his head as he sets his lyric sheet down and reaches for his bottle of water. “I'm rehearsing the lyrics.” they’re working on this Months evaluation together so of course he doesn't mind if the older worked with him or near him. After all they're going to have to be able to perform together so it actually might be useful if they actually practice together. We could help them get more of a comfortable harmony going and allow them to perform to maximum abilities. Because as the older did just say they do have to win at this evaluation is a competition. 

He's never really been in the competitive type… okay, that's not fully the truth. he has been competitive for a while but he just never really shows it and this evaluation will be the first one that he recalls that is actively a competition between the other trainees. he wonders if it means more debuts are coming.

as you will have noticed with the url change , i have fc changed rkdoyum to rkseongmin ( jeon doyum to ahn seongmin from cravity) the main reason being that 1the9 contract ended and it’s uncertain when, if, play m boys will debut. on top of the fact i’ve been kind of mia on this muse and need a fresh change on him to get going again as life kind of slows down for me. so yeah!

his name is ahn seongmin now and literally nothing else changed because im going to keep his birthday and height the same as it has been. thank you!

the modeling class was one that he’d only had mild interest in and it only had to do with the fact that doyeon was the one leading said class. after all doyum himself had little to no desire to ever model. he knows being an idol will have moments of modeling and he might get gigs that involve it--though he also knows the odds of him ever being an active model are slim due to his height. anyway, he’d wanted to go see doyeon and so he found himself at the modeling class with low energy.

“maybe i could just catch her after..” he muttered to himself as he stepped into the room for the class only to pause in step when he spotted a familiar tall frame already inside. “no way...” doyum raised his brows as he crossed the room to the person. and low and behold it is in face lee dongmin. 

“wah.. hyung, why are you here?” he asked, stepping up beside the older with amused bewilderment in his voice. both extremely amused that the older was in a class for modeling and also a little confused as to why the older was in a class for modeling. “aren’t you like... already a professional model.”

march evaluation performance

performing with hyojeong is really second nature to doyum at this point. the two of them have spent years being attached at the hip for each other and performing together. people use to tell them it’s weird to not see them with each other and honestly doyum feels that. he still, even though its been almost a year since he became a trainee, he still feels that it’s weird to not have hyojeong with him at all times.

they’re in different companies and they’re most likely never going to debut in the same group, and so staying in this lane of life. this goal of ending up on stage with a group as an idol, is going to most likely going to continue with them being apart. 

it kind of hurts, when he thinks on it, but he doesn’t. 

but it’s also easy to forgot that little bit of information when the companies allow trainees to work together for evaluations. and doyum can only hope that maybe they’ll see how well him and hyojeong work together. as they moved from the first performance to their second one, the not ideal one, doyum wants them to see how they both shine. how he shines.

wants the coaches and trainers and ceos to see what they’re made of. because doyum is not here just for the fun of it, he wants to make something of himself. and to be someone. 

he isn’t going to give up.

he sometimes wonders if the two of them should have tried auditioning for a company together. he knows people who have done that and he has seen debut idols who have managed to make it as a team. siblings, school friends, people who sought a dream and really worked for it. he wonders, sometimes, if him and hyojeong had worked together more if they could have ended up in the same company.

though, that being said, its not as if they never did anything to gether. in fact, despite bing in different companies he would say they do more together than they do with anyone else. aside from the evaluations that keep them apart because theyre company based. they still travel two and from company together, and spend so much of their free time practicing together. 

hey, maybe the companies would see them shining together and think yeah that’s a good idea. 

he could only hope. 

“thats an idea-- though our outfits will have to be light enough so we don’t get to hot.” he’s already picturing his closet and what would be good to make a quick change. not that he has a lot of color variety to go with... maybe, if needed, he could steal something from his boyfriend. “makeup? yea, sure.”

this months evaluation was funny to doyum for two reasons. 

both of those reasons has to do with the fact he’s in trc--the first and biggest reason this evaluation is funny though no one is laughing is that his best friend who he has always dreamed of being on stage with is in a different company. which then connects with number two because she resides in nova, which is his dream company, and thus his dream stage would have taken place under the name of nova with hyojeong. so yeah, it’s funny they expect him to perform his ideal stage when these two things stand in the way.

luckily, he’s able to perfom this with her despite being in different companies so thats nice. 

“do you think we’ll have enough time between performances for a costume change?” he questions as the music dies down and he flops onto the floor for a break. the two of them having been practicing for a while now and he felt he deserved a breather. “or do you think it’ll be back to back?” he hadn’t thought to much about what to wear for this--but he feels like since it’s supposed to be their ideal stage they should get dressed up. 

that being said, doyum was picturing an all black outfit and maybe a smokey eye look.
