Blog Policy on Demonstration Photography
Demonstration photography, while effective at promoting movements, poses a clear risk for individuals, especially people of color who are already targeted by police. To ensure that my work does not put individuals at risk (especially at demonstrations against police brutality, or associated with the #BlackLivesMatter movement), I use several guidelines: First, I try and use objects (such as megaphones or signs) or camera angles to obscure faces. Second, I concentrate on publicly-known figures (as opposed to private citizens) Finally, for images of individuals, I request permission from a person before sharing the image on the Internet. If any community members have concerns that an image I have posted endangers an individual, I will immediately pull the image from circulation. I can be contacted at [email protected]

Being a modern American Indian often requires balancing cultural traditions and family obligations with the demands of the non-Native world.
Really awesome photo project to keep track of.
"Racism, State Oppression, and the Black Community: Ferguson & Beyond" A panel discussion focusing on the recent events in Ferguson, MO and Long Island, NY, the local and national reaction, and how we as a collective community should move forward. Facilitated by Providence City Councilwoman Mary Kay Harris, the panel featured: Erroll Lomba ( roots.media ), Monay McNeil (Student at RIC), Steve Roberts (Recent College Graduate), Jonathan Lewis (Positive Peace Warrior Network) Prof. Matt Guterl (Brown University)
The event was hosted at the Southside Community Center in Providence Rhode Island, on December 20th, 2014. The event began with a panel discussion, after which community members were invited to speak in an open mic format. Over the past month, several speak-out events have been held throughout Providence, providing a space for community building, networking, and outreach after multiple large-scale marches held in Providence, RI.
