*` misc. headcanon 001

( pretty much as basic as it gets! ) 

her hair is still currently red, as per her icon and she doesn’t plan on changing it anytime soon 

she works at olive young ( korean vers. of sephora ) in dongdaemun but it is part-time

her main focus now that she’s moved into her apartment in gangnam is youtube ( see below! ) and her cat, jude paw

she initially had a roommate but said roommate moved in with her boyfriend and now the spare bedroom is designated as her filming location 

her english name is taylor but she introduces herself as taeeun now that she’s in seoul unless taehyung has introduced her first, odds are he says taylor and she calls him troy 

her last name is different from her brother’s for reasons 

she has an obsession with make-up, nail art, skin care products, and shoes 

she does agree to do modeling on occasion ( such as here ) but is mostly trying to keep a low profle, directly conflicting with both her attempts to stay active on youtube and instagram

( youtube is better than people, except subscribers! ) 

taeeun’s youtube channel is dedicated to makeup tutorials and choreography videos, each going up once a week if and when on her regular schedule 

said regular schedule is makeup tutorials on wednesdays and choreography videos on either friday or saturday, sunday if editing or rendering the video takes longer than expected

that being said, she’s pretty anal when it comes to following a schedule until her move to seoul 

her makeup tutorials are heavily inspired by park hyemin, otherwise known as pony. as such, for examples of taeeun’s uploads, see pony’s channel here 

similar to pony’s recent video playlist attempts, taeeun often posts instagram updates ( see below! ) and her followers can vote for the tutorial they’d like to see by liking the picture

her youtube videos are normally filmed in english with captions offered in korean, chinese, japanese, and spanish but occasionally she films in korean and the optional subtitles change accordingly. it can depend on her mood for the day, the products being used, or the inspiration but they are mostly in english 

in addition to make-up tutorials, she occasionally updates with make-up hauls or clothing hauls 

( when it comes to instagram, gotta follow rule #2, doubletap! ) 

her updates are 43% selfies, 17% haul/youtube update pictures, and 29% pictures of jude paw ( even though she’s gone as far as making him a pet instagram account because absolutely obsessed ). there’s 6% misc. pictures and a small 5% embarrassing pictures of kim taehyung simply because, or family pictures. 

the haul&youtube update pictures are tagged accordingly because of her mild ocd, it’s all in the details! 

her account is public 

she replies as regularly as she can to comments and is easily found scrolling through her feed because she follows most accounts that follow her, the exception being a certain ex who won’t stay out of her life where he so rightfully belongs 

that being said, all photos of her ex have been deleted and his account is blocked because when moving to a new country, gotta travel light!

(/he lets out a low chuckle once more, hands digging deeper into his pockets, shoulders shrinking against the cool wind that bows past him to dance with the length of her gown) nah—these kinds of guys don’t have enough charisma to help me keep the coffee shop open. they’re all the same cookie cutter rich assholes, and that slot’s already taken.

{` he has an odd penchat for appearing as he pleases, interjecting himself into the most random of moments and she’d never admit that she’s grateful for it — for the break in her blatant boredom, the bland search for something more entertaining, anything to make her as if she is her old self again, as if she can actually breathe. she doesn’t know if she would call him a breath of fresh air but he isn’t stifling the way her ex had become. they were similar yet quite different. enough so that she allows him to stay around when she had decided before moving to seoul that the last thing she needed was another charming man in her life. if she were to fall in love again, she believes she’d rather have someone as idiotic as her brother because of the sincerity, the inability to lie through his teeth and be so dishonest. so when he claims that it’s the first time he’s attempted such a thing — although if he has actually stalked someone before, she couldn’t see him admitting to it either — she automatically assumes it’s not the first time he’s used that line either ) do you hear yourself when you talk? does it sound believable to you or do you pretend you’re in a drama 24/7? {` because it would be a stereotypical korean drama for him to be so interested in her and she has half the nerve to remind him that the guy who chases after the girl is normally the second lead who never gets the female lead but she’s not a female lead herself even if she acts as such } of course the masks. even now i can’t be charmed by that smug look on your face. you must be so disappointed. the mask takes away from your appeal. {` the winter air is colder than she’d like, a glance spared over her shoulder despite knowing the answer to what’s more appealing, the icy air or the grand masquerade blossoming with pretense and inevitable heartbreak: she’d rather freeze, shoulders becoming tense as if curling into herself could help } give yourself more credit than that. you’re not a cookie cutter rich asshole. you’re a designer rolling pin. those are at least interesting.

Rome isn’t ashamed or embarrassed that it’s one of his first times at a grand event of this scale. He’s attended parties in Australia, had to come off as the charming, dutiful son of his well-known architect father and an equally famous photographer for a mother but he didn’t have the knack or interest in it the same way his sister did. He, Jake, and Christopher didn’t mind staying at home with pizza while his sister wined and dined, rubbing elbows with the the top of the top and he said it like that to her whenever she asked. His answer was obtuse to her and the question rarely came up after, the reason why he put it like that in the first place. With Jihyun as his covert date, which he didn’t mind, he was glad enough to have seen her in her dress, formal and ethereal, an angel when she thought of herself as a devil. 

The devil approaches him in heels, that’s something he’ll have to tell Jihyun once he finds her again and he’s confused at first, another sign she’s at least a trickster. Her words pierce through him and he feels more transparent than he know he is. Was he that bad or did he look lovesick at all hours of the day? If a mask can’t hide his fondness of Jihyun, he isn’t sure what can. He didn’t make the connection at first when she calls Jihyun by her English name. His mother was fond of calling her by her English name but as of late she would occasionally throw in her Korean name because of Rome’s habit of doing it. Calling her Candy to his mother didn’t feel right. More and more, he found himself calling her and speaking to her with her Korean name because Candy was beginning to feel like the past to him, when he was just a friend, a habit he was willing to drop for the sake of distinction. 

Once he realizes and stares at the bright red hair [her eyes would be too intimidating], he figures out who she is. “Yes, I’m Rome. It’s nice to meet you. Uh— your name is Taylor, yeah? It’s nice to meet you. I,” he trails off because how can he answer that question? “You’re right.” Sticking with honesty, he grins, shameless with the mask shielding his face. “It’s hard for me to see past her.” 

his lengthy pause — or it feels that way because anything other than an immediate response begins to ignore her — answers more than his answer could and she has to stifle a laugh, tame it as it threatens to spill from rouge lips. recognition flickers in his eyes and she’s quick to notice it, just as impressed to discover that he remembers her name but what baffles her most is the distinct honesty that reaches her ears, something she’s not quite used to anymore but her doubt chases whatever faith she could form in him anyway. an abrupt sweep the matches the roll of her eyes. “ guys in seoul are just so greasy. is it a seoul thing or were you like this from birth? oh — italians are really romantic. maybe that’s it. ” 

she alludes to a nickname he couldn’t possibly know but that merely adds to the appeal of utilizing it. “ does being on the mgas help your game? it has to, right? are you the type of guy to sleep around? you are really charming. not to mention, everyone who’s seen the mgas has seen you shirtless. i bet it’s easy for you. “ not to mention that if a male sleeps around, he’s a legend, an idol, a figure of admiration yet when a woman does so, she’s wildly inappropriate and devalued as well as demoralized. the accent is impressive too and she makes use of her own, clear, fluent english filtering out with her questions, accented just barely because of a lifetime spent maturing in new york. 

“ but it’s nice to meet you. you’re more attractive in person and i’ve been interested in your australian accent since my aunt and uncle met you. can you do an italian accent too? any type of european accent? i’d settle for any if you make it interesting. for olivia to keep you around, you must be interesting somehow. “ her words carry the potentially of being more than borderline offensive but she doesn’t dare make it easy on him. if it were gwen, she could only imagine how much worse it could be. questions just as direct as hers and yet not as covert. more provoking, maybe, but she prefers it that way, to see how he does under pressure because no member of the lee family will cut him any slack.

(/the entire evening has been a whirlwind—almost quite literally. she feels like she’s been swept off her feet, shrouded in mystery until the very last moment, the last few droplets of curiosity slowly dissipating, disappearing into thin air to give way to  the clarity of what yixing has had planned all along. since she first met him, she’d found it hard to understand him even if she thinks he’s a good guy overall, but the direction the evening has taken has only sunken her deeper into the pits of uncertainty, though not so much that she can no longer see the surface, because she believes that much is crystal clear. at least, she believes so as she stands next to him at the masquerade, arms linked, feeling like the princess she’s always wanted to be for a night, and up until she’s yanked out of his grasp by the surprisingly firm grip of her older cousin. she’s unsure if her expression makes it past the past on her face, but furrowed brows and down-turned lips betray her thought process and bewilderment, her cousin’s questions going unanswered as momo tries to comprehend the situation) i met him at work? (/her statement turns into a question from the sheer confusion she feels as she tries to regain her senses. her cousin’s words finally sink in, but it doesn’t help to clear the air) why not? he’s nice.

{` she can only think that, if anyone could be so easily caught into a web as tangled as she knows yixing’s to be from what he’s told her — despite what little it is, she knows who he is well from his mannerisms and habits — of course it’s someone as gullible as momo. easy to trust, easy to be deceived and taken advantage and that’s the last thing she wishes upon her cousin. her own history with males only further shades her perspective of men with irrational bias against them and she shakes her head, a muted click of her tongue in place of a silent pause as she internally debates how to best explain yet maintain momo’s innocence } zhang yixing? in a cat cafe? i thought he didn’t like animals {` which is another reason she doubts him. what kind of human being doesn’t adore cats? it just wasn’t right and, again, she’s heavily biased as she thinks of her own pet cat at home } of course he’s nice {` her tone isn’t anything short of annoyingly exasperated and she doesn’t know how to explain that yixing is the type of guy to hit on any female that breathes — or so she jokes, but she knows he actually has standard, props to him for not being the basic type of playboy but she considers him to be one nonetheless. the manner in which he had approached her before the masquerade lingers in her mind and plagues her thoughts briefly, because she swore he seemed genuine but she refuses to be tricked by another male again } being nice doesn’t make someone a good person, momo. intentions matter too. do you trust this guy?

(/he’s quickly growing bored of the night, of all the false pretenses and the oversaturation of love and sweethearts and public display of affection. he’d run away to seoul so he could avoid his mother’s expectations, only to be met with a more demanding public standing and forced to tap into his “unlocked potential.” what a load of shit) — (/he makes his way toward toward the double doors he’d entered, unbuttoning his blazer to retrieve the box of cigarettes that lay hidden in the inner pocket. his muscles freeze, however, when he catches an all too familiar head of red hair and an adorable button nose) — (/buttoning his jacket once more, he approaches, footsteps as quiet as he can make them, and stands just behind her before allowing himself to speak, gaze overlooking the view of the han river) we’ve got to stop meeting up like this. (/his tone is playful, with an easy smile to match, english impeccable. he takes the extra step forward so he’s standing right behind her, hands resting lazily on the pockets of his coat) and here i thought an event like this might be too pretentious for you. you never cease to prove me wrong.

{` she’s easily become the interrogator of the evening and it was hardly how anyone ought to spend their valentine’s day, even less so how she wanted to. it wasn’t the notion of the holiday itself that had gotten to her, she could quickly overlook the holiday itself with the event’s lavish decor themed after the phantom of the opera rather than with spools of red and pink silk — that would leave her absolutely repulsed by the commonality of it all but that was another issue itself. for her, this type of event was typical, seasonally, monthly even depending on the whims of new york society’s elite. what she strives to leave behind, the overbearing watchful eyes and the endless, just ever so annoyingly constant criticism, is what she feels as if she’s walked into. dragging olivia along with her group of her friend along with her own group brings ease to her gestures, biting back her snide comments when her grandmother speaks of her date and how unconventional he is. she’s granted more ease but their presence doesn’t completely satiate her nerves, particularly now as each person seems to have split off into smaller groups — couples, essentially in her eyes — and her own date distracted by his friends instead of her. her interest in him is remotely anything more than platonic but some attention would be nice. the voice is more familiar than she’s like and she recognizes him without having to turn, but a glance is stolen out of curiosity that’s barely sated with one look. he’s attractive, she always gives him that much but it only goes so far and her inquisitiveness when it comes to him ventures more into why he seems to find her interesting enough to — } we would if you stopped this odd habit of stalking me. tell me something, does that work for you? because i thought you were from california and i’m certain it’s illegal there. {` warmth radiates against her back from his close proximity and she doesn’t shy away. she wasn’t the type but apparently he seems to know her type } ballroom dancing, chiffon gowns, and masks so i don’t have to look at my enemies’ faces directly? it’s exactly my type of event. what are you doing here? scouting for your host club?

joohyuk is the type of man who easily loses interest in something when it’s out of his sight: the watch on display at the department store, the coat online, the cute girl who sells flowers at a booth in the mall. it’s rare that something piques his interest well enough in the first place, but to have something, rather, someone, occupy his thoughts for more than a few seconds in a day is rather baffling, even by his own standards.

it’s at this point that he lets things get a little out of hand. maybe he shouldn’t have traced her number and gone to her apartment. maybe he shouldn’t have watched her as she left, and maybe he shouldn’t have trailed her to her workplace before driving off to his own establishment to spend the day thinking about her. and yeah, he knows it’s a little creepy, but it’s entirely justifiable when he thinks that he’s just trying to fulfill his own curiosity. after all, the pursuit of knowledge is an admirable thing.

of course, maybe he’s stepped over the line when, after allowing himself a half day at work, he drives to her place of work, hoping to catch her, but all thoughts of him being excessive are gone when he sees her, blames it on fate rather than his own inappropriate actions, and then strolls into the store as if he owns the place (even if he doesn’t even know what half of the things in the store are for). he quietly approaches her, her back turned toward him, and only stops when he’s standing right beside her, their shoulders a perfect straight line. he pretends to be interested in whatever it is she’s looking at, lips pursed to keep a grin from forming.

“want to get out of here?”

years of extracurricular activities tied into an intricate plan for her bachelors degree, nothing less than perfection permitted or accepted in the end is what inspires her to become so free now. other incidents fall to the wayside but are just as easily to blame. restriction is what taeeun despises most for the time being and whenever she’s been told she cannot, she does it anyway. it’s a reason for the garish hue of her hair, why she allows it to dominate her style and taste for well over a year at the dismay of her mother and a particular someone who cannot, will not, be named. 

yet, as fulfilling as she hoped working at olive young would be, because make-up is one of her favorite things, it fails the test of granting her freedom because she forgets to heed the wise advice that one should never make a hobby their occupation— at least, not in this form. her youtube channel still thrives when she thinks of a new tutorial, only on a brief hiatus because of her move and this new change in post-grad occupation. 

she knows the typical path that follows, was more than prepared to pursue it but the more she did, the more she chased the idea, the less appealing it became. more ideals and propriety that she didn’t care to follow much less defend, not when mundane activities such as editing and adding subtitles to her videos grew to be more entertaining. 

this, however, is not as entertaining and her dramatic, excessive sigh, a lengthy exhale that causes her bangs to flare upwards just slightly, screams of her boredom. sungah laughs at her, telling her to straighten up because customers are starting to stream in from the afternoon rush and she jokingly mocks the other, abruptly rearranging one of the smaller displays, “i know but — “ 

the way sungah’s gaze veers off should’ve been warning enough. if she knows her friend, the only thing that places such an expression in her eyes is a handsome guy and lo and behold there stands nam joohyuk. he’s certainly handsome and that’s another reason taylor is wary of him, turning at his question and ignoring the incredulous look that overtakes her friend and coworker’s face when she says, “ i’m working right now. you know, something you put your effort into and receive pay for. unlike some people, i don’t own a cafe. and, why would i want to go anywhere with you? “ she swears if he mentions the childhood photos, she’ll storm out of the store despite herself.

jay is by no means boring but once he’s caught in the camaraderie of his friends, taeeun often finds herself drifting off in conversation. it wasn’t that they weren’t interesting because they were, a vibrant group filled with people that were a fierce scarlet like her to hyukwoo who’s more of a muted green, sage and docile only to become animated when he’s lit up, illuminated from within which she can admire in anyone. first impressions are one of her crowning glories, she often doesn’t stray away from them but he changed her mind. that is yet another trait she can always respect. 

it’s then that someone else whose first impression changes the more she hears about him, conflicting ideas at best, catches her eye. she’d figured that olivia would’ve come with him but to see him on his own is an opportunity she doesn’t dare miss, excusing herself with a pat to jay’s shoulder, her gesture one he returns with a fleeting brush of his hand over hers in acknowledgment. 

with another tap to a shoulder, this time belonging to a certain #2020, taeeun childishly moving about to the opposite side of the shoulder she tapped, she smiles innocuously once their eyes meet. “ you’re rome, right? mister 2020 from the mgas. do you have perfect vision tonight, or . . . do you only have eyes for olivia? “

{` she’d been curious from the moment yixing told her he actually planned on bring a date. since they met, taeeun sincerely doubted he knew how to take a female out on a sincere date which only earned her a blank stare and a belated sigh as she returned the gesture. he was quite lucky that she didn’t mock him and offer that he follow her on instagram if he wanted to stare at her beautiful face so much. but the last thing she expected was to find out the female behind the beautiful mask, the one on yixing’s arm when he strolled on in with a type of walk taeeun classified as ‘walking as if he owns the world,’ is her precious, adorable, and most importantly, extremely innocent cousin. the words ‘she’s barely legal are on the tip of her tongue and she bites it all back before glancing around to try and find olivia, who is of course nowhere in her sight. damn that mister rome italy, likely swept her away into the grandness of the masquerade and she hardly blames him but continuing to watch yixing and momo interact are kindling for wildfire and it’s not long before she pointedly walks up to them, heels loudly tapping and coming to an abrupt halt before she drags momo away, an expression that practically screams ‘we’re talking about this later’ thrown in yixing’s direction before her attention is given completely to her cousin } how do you know yixing? of all the guys in seoul, momo. really?

it was difficult not to squeal out loud at the feline’s actions, but she reigned it in, knowing the cats disliked the sound, especially when it came from loud, rambunctious children or women on dates, and that the lone customer in the cafe probably wouldn’t appreciate it very much. her hand came down, palm gently patting spotted fur as she absent-mindedly answered her cousin’s question. “well…” a sheepish expression takes over her features as she stands straight again, forefingers coming together to guiltily twirl around each other. “my boss is very kind.” of course, she conveniently left off that she’d been reprimanded for giving discounts before, but the elderly owner was always so kind; it was like he was one of her grandparents.

“come here, you have to try these,” she said suddenly, shuffling away from jude paw to allow him to do what he was brought there to do in the first place. with excitement and hurry to change the subject, she scurried over toward the counter and the display case, taking out one of their most favored red velvet cupcakes and placing it onto a pastel saucer. “i get off in like ten minutes,” she said distractedly, sliding the plate over toward the elder girl, a bright, inviting smile on her lips. her expression brightened at her cousin’s words. “stuff~? what stuff?”

his affectionate gestures come and go just as quickly as her own and it is only one of the numerous reasons taeeun thinks jude paw was meant to be with her. he vies for momo’s attention in the way he knows best, laying atop her feet, sprawling his entire body out, and swiping gently at her legs when she doesn’t continue to pet him. taeeun couldn’t help shaking her head at either of them, her pet and her cousin. “ very kind doesn’t mean anything goes. it just means they might be more lenient if you’re caught, right? it’s okay, momo. you and i both know i don’t need a discount. “ truthfully, no one in their family truly does. 

taking the hint, jude begrudgingly treks away towards the other cats in the cafe and taeeun only hopes he doesn’t prove her right when she considers him to be the player type. it would go perfectly with his name though and she’d consider it fate despite not being fully committed to believing in the concept itself. “ is that red velvet? you know the way to my heart, momo. i knew i could count on you ~ “ even the color of the saucer appeals to taeeun and she gratefully accepts the plate, reaching for a fork for a more neat approach to eating it. tasting the frosting first, she nods. “ ten minutes is good enough to me, “ she replies with a glance over her shoulder to her cat. “ gifts from new york of course! and make-up samples. there’s so many at work i think if i have to look at any more, i might lose it. “

she figures that fire nation reference makes sense somehow, but she can’t for the life of her remember if she’s heard it before.

maybe it means russia. china? not very logical, but you never know with those people anyway. she shrugs, repositioning herself, resting cheek against the open palm of one of her hands, the other drumming absentmindedly against her legs as she crosses them slowly.

“i’m saying you look fabulous. don’t worry about it.” reassurance, maybe. a hopeless attempt. sunbin smiles, shaking her head with eyes closed. relaxed, allegedly. “he likes me, at least.”

in regards to the cat that suddenly decides she’s worth his time. how familiar. 

listening along with mild excitement to taeeun’s ranting in regards to her glitter endeavours, she settles into peacefully stroking the cats back, palms open. he wiggles around, as they tend to do, but eventually she’s able to find a good rhythm.

“water kills lubrication. that’s a bad idea— though not my problem, right?” she grins again, still not looking up, “that’s a good look, no? why are you so opposed to being glittery? makes you look all glowing and living, you know. like a highlighter for your entire body.”

taeeun reaches for jude paw too now, so she falls back, stretching her hands straight up in some kind of jaw, rolling her neck on her shoulder with a dissatisfactory lack of cracking. oh well.

“we have make-up too. it’s just vegan and boring, but i can’t give up smelling so good all the time. what is my appeal without it? and also,” holding her hands up side by side with her face, she angles them back and forth in the dim lighting to show off the way they glitter in a multitude of colors. “permanent glitter hands. it’s my magical touch— literally.”

“ there’s a difference between fabulous and flamboyant, “ taeeun’s crinkled nose expresses all the distaste not captured in her words and she rolls her eyes for good measure. with a flance to jude paw, she laughs, shakes her head. “ he’s a player, don’t trust him. ” 

he’s more so fickle than anything and it’s a prime example of like pet, like owner. 

her words fall on deaf ears, at least for the egyptian mau and he takes advantage of the attention given to him. “ if it’s good enough, there’d be more than enough lubrication, “ of course it’s her own opinion anyway and she twirls fiery tendrils around her fingers, easily losing interest in the woman who had upset her outrageously so earlier. “ why do you know that? don’t tell me you experiment in such places. “ 

clapping her hands together before resting one over where her heart supposedly is — on some days, she claims not to have one or for it to be black, thank god a black heart emoji is meant to come out soon — she pretends to be touched and tremendously proud. “ am i a bad influence on you? thank god. “ 

the appeal of being glitter as sunbin says is completely nonexistent to taeeun and she laughs obnoxiously, as if it’s too out there for her to consider and that’s saying something when boundaries rarely exist for her, especially in her past, that is. “ because glitter is the herpes of the craft world. has no one ever told you that? once you have it, it doesn’t go away. why would i want that? sounds like a genius way to have someone caught for cheating though, if you ask me. “ 

the young cat weaves tauntingly back and forth between herself and sunbin before making himself at home atop a sweater taeeun strewn over the floor when she first came in and he’s lucky she doesn’t care all too much for it. “ smelling good doesn’t mean you have to be glittery. what is this? little girl’s lotion? no, like you said, it’s vegan. this isn’t helping the whole ‘vegans are overly sexual and kinky’ stereotype some people believe in. “ 

rolling her eyes, taeeun nearly snorts when sunbin showcases her glittery hands and she holds up her own, the back of her hand still faintly glimmering after the last customer she had helped try a new look, complete with glitter shadow and glitter galore bronzer because she obviously missed the memo that glittery make-up is more so a summer palette. “ this is enough glitter for me, thank you very much. i stand by what i said and olive young has some perfumes! what we don’t have, which is a shame, is amazing bath bombs but that could be fixed over time. “

jongin’s arm moves around the girl’s middle to pull her closer, enjoying the way they were both tucked so nicely under the blanket. it was ridiculous how much jongin was truly always craving for physical attention, even more considering how he usually never voiced it out; he’d just wait for someone else to initiate it, and once they do, then it becomes a problem to get jongin to stop being cuddly.

which is more or less their case, truth be told.

“i-” jongin starts but cuts himself off at her words, full lips pressing together in thought and, just perhaps, a hint of embarrassment too. he knew he truly gave away the naïve and innocent vibe (mostly because, unlike 90% of boys his age, his world doesn’t revolve around sex), but it’s not like jongin was completely ignorant, either. he knew about it. he knew enough, at least.

“i know what sexual tension is..” he mutters, sinking a little on the couch from his shy side poking out, gaze remaining on the tv screen. “i didn’t really do that connection, though- i thought his intentions would be romantic only, which was why it was dumb to wait so long to just tell her he likes her.” he tries, though feels as if his explanation is suddenly really child-like.

maybe he truly is a bit on the naïve side.

she ought to be more curious but lee taeeun knows exactly why she craves such physical attention and knowing that much suffices for her. at least, it does for now. her curiosity is difficult to tame and, when paired with her stubborn nature, is completely unstoppable but for now she settles for the warmth he grants and how he doesn’t question anything. it’s odd — she might not ask why because he doesn’t. there’s no demand for answers and the only questions that arise are ones that entertain her to no end. 

her head lolls against his shoulder, gazing up at him because she’s considered tall but he’s much taller and she almost forgets when he grows shy. inquisitively, her brow arches at his failed attempt at forming a sentence and she almost smiles, almost. taeeun could tell him anything then — because anything could be the reason why a person waits to confess; there could be one reason, there could be a number of reasons — but speaking is no fun and he’s too easy to elicit a reaction from.

sitting up, there’s barely any distance between them and she doesn’t aim to create any, resting her palm against his cheek. her stare travels from his eyes to the plushness of his lips, flickers back and forth and it’s not long until it lingers on rosy petals, attention captured by their beauty, a fact she makes known with how shameless and open her gaze is. her own lips part only for her bottom one to be seized, tugged between her teeth with a hesitant meeting of her eyes with his. 

this is it. this is the moment. 3, 2, 1 . . . 

with a final lean closer, her lips brush against his ear and she whispers, “ doubt. “ 

she settles back in place, head leaning against his shoulder again, abruptly innocuous and docile as she explains. “ because some people are less like me and more like you. shy. one day you’ll like someone and understand. “ because people believe in the misconception that confessions need the right moment when sometimes it’s just about the right person.

He’s been having such a bad day and the ridiculous crowd the café had wasn’t helping him in any way, but he guesses there’s nothing they could do but try and accomodate everyone and move double time considering it’s a rush hour. It doesn’t wipe the scowl off his face though, not when he’s been standing around waiting for a table in what felt like forever. And when he finally spots one someone else beats him to it and he’s sure he asked politely if it’s okay to share but he gets a solid no. Sehun doesn’t get it because she looks alone but she’s probably really waiting for someone, but he had always been stubborn so he sulks instead.

Thankfully, a table nearby is cleared next and he’s quick to take it. He’s still sulking even after he’s done telling the waiter his order and he’s sending small glares towards the stranger. And because he’s a mature adult he grabs some of the tissue paper from its holder, rips it into smaller bits and rolls them into little balls. “Meanie,” Sehun mumbles as he takes careful aim and throws them at her as he pouts in his chair, stopping only when she turns to look in his direction and pretends to be innocent.

the guilt is fleeting, because that is all she allows herself when it comes to negative emotions these days. in new york, they had followed her with each step she took, hiding under the pretense of love. enough’s enough, that’s the mantra that led her to the decision to move to seoul. at least she pretends it was fleeting because he didn’t seem lecherous in the split second she barely took to glance at him. then again, she’s far more accustomed to the type of people one encounters in new york compared to that of a more traditional nation such as korea, even is seoul is a large, considerably modern city. 

in an instant, however, it does become fleeting because she can feel her back being pelted with what feels like paper balls, a sensation she didn’t experience until and since high school. her first experience with paper balls had been the last once the culprit realized who he was dealing with. she couldn’t believe it, couldn’t possibly fathom how anyone could be so immature in the middle of seoul and in the middle of what she considered a classy coffeehouse. taeeun is certain that she doesn’t have to turn to know who it could be but once she does, she’s certain it’s the male she had said no to moments before. talk about bitter. she scoffs and while he’s in the midst of his innocent act, she retaliates in the only proper, adult way — she picks the paper balls up and tosses them back at him, pausing and hiding them in the palm of her hand when he looks back, suddenly consumed with her instagram feed.

When I left for Korea, I left alone without this one person that I cherished a lot. In Korea, I did made friends, but there was still this person that dragged me to MTV Iggy and made me fall in love with Korean music. If I had to name this friend in question, this best friend in question, I would answer ‘Taytay’, but you probably would now her better by ‘T-ae’ or ‘Taylor’ or other names that she acquired over time. I forgot when we first met, but I can be sur that it was one of the most magical and whimsical moment in my life. See, we had our ups and downs just like everybody, but we patched up. She has been there for me. Do you believe in cause and effect? I’ll give you a reason to believe in it. When I saw those girls on the stage of MTV Iggy, I instantly wanted to join them. I had a dream that, one day, I would be on the same stage. I did not want fame or anything. I just wanted to be up there. It would have not happened if I did not agree on going to that concert with Taylor. She had a pair of tickets, so she invited me. At first, I was reluctant, because I did not know anything about K-Pop, hell, I was one of those people who only knew Japan and China. I maybe I would say that I knew Thailand, because Thai Express? Really, my knowledge of Asia was fairly limited on overrated stuff. Taylor’s efforts paid off into giving me a dream. That is why I am in Seoul, South Korea today. It’s because of a great, sassy and caring friend named Taylor (not Swift or Lautner but) Lee Taeeun (yes, the youtuber).

his eyes remain glued on her expressions, his own features remaining his version of stoic—a placid smile, eyes dull on the surface but twinkling just beneath, as if diamonds rest underneath the chocolate pools of his irises. direct, to the point, blunt. he’s seen her type a million times before, but there’s something inherently different about her, and the fact that he can’t exactly place it makes her all the more intriguing. a low chuckle bubbles in his chest, leaves his mouth in a deep rumble as he finally straightens his spine and sweeps his hand out in front of him a bow that is far too grandiose to be meaningful. “at your service.”

he glances up at her with a quiet smirk before straightening once more. naturally, his body falls into another lazy position, back slightly arched as he leans back into the wall, body perched atop the stool behind the front desk. he watches her still, gaze intent but lazy, hooded with eyes that are almost half asleep. “what business do you have with me?” he asks purely out of curiosity and intrigue, wondering what it is that’s brought this woman to society simply to see him (not that the event is a rarity—but he doubts she’s there for a cup of coffee and company).

her face is vaguely familiar, the shape of her eyes, the curve of her lips; there’s also something in the way she speaks, familiar, and yet a style all her own. he can’t quite place a finger on it, but it doesn’t bother him. games like this, of mystery and intrigue, have always been his favorite, after all.

the grand gesture is surprising to say the least and it prompts the corner of her lips to twitch in amusement but not quite. any jewel or precious gem of beguilement that could’ve existed is tarnished, shattered by the last male she recalls to be similar to joohyuk. what a shame, she thinks, because he’s far more attractive. 

despite the overtly courteous action, his stance is comparatively lazier and her brow arches curiously. “ i wouldn’t call it business. you sound like a mobster. is that the type of business your quaint cafe normally solicits? you’ve put my mother’s work to odd use. “ bag set atop the counter and arms crossed, the bag serving as cushion as she leans for support, glancing around him as if severely scrutinizing the remaining decor in the cafe — which she is, any work of her mother’s calls for it because she’s exactly who taeeun got such a meticulous nature from. 

“ it’s quite an accomplishment, “ and she intends for her words to be vague, to allude to the cafe when her intentions are to speak of this: “ giving my mother a headache. it’s a skill i’ve mastered from a young age. i could only imagine how troublesome you were to have done the same so easily and without experience. “ her gaze falls onto him now, head to toe, she looks him over, lips finally curling into a smile. “ but i doubt you’re without experience. anyway, it’s impressive so i’ve come to see how the cafe turned out since she decided to put up with the headaches in the end and work with you. ”
