Warm Your Heart || Eval pt.1
He couldn’t believe he was thinking it but, he was glad to have harder choreo like Ringa Linga to do after performing Fantastic Baby. His hands were so cold that while waiting to dance, he had to double the heat packs in his mittens as he handed the packs to passer-bys. He even wished they had organized more difficult songs to perform because then at least he’d have the heat running through him without having to jump around in between. There was an advantage to his efforts at least, with a group of girls giggling his way with shy smiles as he did exaggerated jumping jacks to keep warm.
“I warmed these up for you, will you all take one?” He flashed a smile, hoping his charisma would rope in the girls. After one of them took a hesitant step to him, the rest slowly followed, now with reddened faces that had nothing to do with the cold. “Will you stay and watch us perform? We have some cool songs planned..” One of the other TRC boys called out to him and he grinned back at the girls, “I have to go but I hope you’ll stay and support us!”
Coffees and Rhymes || Jinsoul
rkyoungjae:

“Wanna blow this popsicle stand and go to one of the comfiest spots in the building?” He can’t help how lame he sounds, which is especially embarrassing because he’s supposed to set a charismatic example as a sunbae. “It’s got these really nice sitting cushions and it’s a nice conductor of creativity, very quiet. “I wanted to work on some writing as well. Feel free to stay here, it’s no problem– just thought I’d offer since it’s loud here.”
she takes the coffee, mumbling an awkward “thank you” and looking at the cup, wondering if it’s too hot to drink. she’s been burned too many times by hot liquid scalding her tongue, and it’s always an uncomfortable experience that has too many consequences for too long after. not to be dramatic, but burning your tongue sucks.
“popsicle stand….” she repeats after him, not really sure what he’s saying and wondering if it’s a thing that trc kids say. she’s been here for a year, so one would think she knows what she’s doing, but sometimes she still feels new somehow.
but then again, maybe that’s just a her thing. she’s never been the best at feeling comfortable no matter what the situation.
but this room sounds interesting, and she knows he’s been there for a while so he must know some secret places, right? places that not many others know about, somewhere more quiet. “yeah, that sounds nice actually.” jinsoul tries to keep herself relatively calm, but she’s already starting to be excited about the prospect, because he makes it sound so much nicer than the spots she usually goes to when she wants to work on her writing. “is it far?”
“Sorry, that was dumb... I pick up a lot of weird American sayings from movies.” He shrugs one shoulder and grimaces. He’s done this way too many times to be cool anymore, even his trainers are questioning the shit that comes out of his mouth. “Being the most uncool trainee at TRC sucks, but I mean, it comes with its own advantages-- like knowing where the cool spots are.”
His fears of being pushy or annoying wash away when he notices her interest peak. “Nah, it’s actually super close to the Café, sorta surprised more people haven’t found it by accident.” Over the years he’s spent scoping out the buildings, this one is his favourite just because he can quickly grab food while writing or studying.
“So, how has your first year been? A lot has happened so far but every year here is different, which is good I guess?” He tries not to reflect on how long he’s been with TRC but things really have changed over the years, the biggest physical change was moving to the Seocho building, but really a lot has happened. He wonders what it’s like from the other trainees’ views but hasn’t made small talk with them in a while.

Why am I doing this...
Ticket - K.ARMA Cover |=|
The video starts off with some funny clips of Youngjae goofing off before settling on one of him in his bedroom sitting in front of his wall, a few posters litter the space behind him.
“Hey everyone! I’ve been pretty busy for the past few months but I found my old ukulele and wanted to do another cover with it since it’s so long.”
Youngjae lifts the ukulele up towards the camera’s view with a smile. He strums some chords just to triple check his tuning and gets comfortable when everything sounds in order.
“I’ll be doing a quick cover of K.ARMA’s Ticket. It’s so catchy I really couldn’t help myself.”
Coffees and Rhymes || Jinsoul
rkyoungjae:
[ … ]
“Hey, Jinsoul, do you wanna head somewhere quieter to work- I mean, if that’s what you were trying to do.”
He cursed his awkward hello, and rubbed the back of his neck.
“I got you a coffee since you were sitting alone, do you like vanilla or caramel?”
these days, she wants to focus on things that make her happy, the things that have been on her mind and have been weighing on her as a future goal. it’s something for her, something that doesn’t involve her mother. in fact, if her mom knew that she was trying to compose songs now, she would say that it’s a waste of time. but she’s taken enough acting classes for the time being, and she wants to do something that she wants for a change.
which isn’t to say that she’s comfortable with it. in fact, she’s scared out of her mind about the whole thing but she thinks that the second half of the year is about bushing her own boundaries. maybe.
she suddenly looks up from her notebook, closing it immediately in an attempt to hide her work when she hears her name, startled for a moment when she sees him in front of her. even though she’s been at trc for a year now somehow she still can’t get used to everyone here. especially a sunbae like youngjae, and she isn’t good at talking to boys to begin with so it just all makes for a situation that’s not ideal. but again, she’s pushing boundaries, trying to make herself more comfortable.
“oh, um…yeah it’s a little loud in here.” jinsoul looks around at everyone eating their food and chatting with their friends and sighs. then looks over at the cups when he mentions coffee. she didn’t even realize how tired she was, but now that she sees the coffee in front of her she realizes that she definitely needs this. “whatever you don’t want is fine with me, since you got it and all…you really didn’t have to, i can pay you back!”
It’s been a while since Youngjae had interacted with other trainees outside of their monthly evaluations and when they would have to pair up during any practises. He kind of misses hanging out for the sake of hanging out, but this is what he signed up for and lately he’s just been so tired.
Jinsoul looks a bit startled at his appearance so he tries to warm up his facial features and smiles with what he hopes is a welcoming aura. “I’ll take the vanilla then... and really, it’s okay- my treat”
Youngjae usually has a whole process for writing songs, including a specific playlist and either coffee or a relaxing honey and lemon drink. There are a few little secret areas of the building which aren’t exactly off-limits but moreso it’s just that few people know about them. He feels an obligation to let the people who need quiet to bring forth their creativity know about these rooms though. That’s why he leans against the table and jerks his head.
“Wanna blow this popsicle stand and go to one of the comfiest spots in the building?” He can’t help how lame he sounds, which is especially embarrassing because he’s supposed to set a charismatic example as a sunbae. “It's got these really nice sitting cushions and it’s a nice conductor of creativity, very quiet. “I wanted to work on some writing as well. “Another extended day because I gotta get my thoughts out on paper before I forget them...”
Coffees and Rhymes || Jinsoul
He’d recognize Jinsoul anywhere.
He wasn’t exactly looking for her specifically but, in his quest to find somewhere to sit during break, it was her he spotted first. The girl was shy, there was no denying it, but Youngjae could relate. He wouldn’t fault her for it, he was the same way before, still was. He could try his hardest to condition himself into being more outgoing and loud, but at the end of the day he still had to put a lot of effort into that image.
The building’s food area was slightly louder than usual, him arriving during lunch rush. It wasn’t a great atmosphere and he found he couldn’t concentrate on writing when it was like this. So when he saw Jinsoul with a notebook In front of her, he assumed she felt the same way. He quickly lined up at the local café and ordered two iced coffees and a danish, before heading over to her table.
“Hey, Jinsoul, do you wanna head somewhere quieter to work- I mean, if that’s what you were trying to do.”
He cursed his awkward hello, and rubbed the back of his neck.

“What would my life be without caffeine?”
To Beat Again || September Eval
Youngjae tried and failed to stop himself from psychoanalyzing himself. Millions of judgements raced through his head as he waited for his turn during evaluations. Everyone had to do an OST so it was no surprise he was choosing a love song, they really were some of the prettiest songs, but the lyrics hit in ways that made his heart palpitate faster than usual. He did not want to deal with the thoughts that came with listening to this particular song, but the emotions he could convey while singing it was too tempting to pass up. He eventually wanted to be the one chosen to perform OSTs so he needed to make this a good performance for his coaches.
It had been a dream of his since a child to be the one performing a heartbreaking song set during a groundbreaking moment in a drama. One that gave chills and teary eyes to those who watched on, surrounded by family during primetime. He wanted ahjummas fawning over him, as lame as that sounded. He wanted to be that singer.
Youngjae had a long path ahead of him, obviously, but he wanted to take the right steps in that direction and this was a start. There was no telling what the future held but he'd be damned if he did not try his hardest to get what he wanted. TRC had put the time and resources into furthering his dream and it was only right he put in even more effort than that.
"When I see you, a smile spreads. It's an unfamiliar side that I haven't seen in the past. I'm not very good at love, but now I'll take the courage to slowly go to you."
He pushed himself past his usual comfort level of how much emotion he showed. He used the bit of acting training he'd done before to showcase and channel those emotions, displayed them for the people in front of him.
"You come up in my thoughts, but it's hidden in my heart…."

“What would my life be without cute ig filters?”
Burning up || Hyunjoon
rkyoungjae:
Youngjae knew this was a small trip… he knew. So he was surprised at his own luggage and how full it had gotten. He wasn’t materialistic by nature but now that he had to regularly keep himself looking fresh and cool, he packed way more than he was comfortable with for a glamping trip. There was his clothing sets, planned in advance, his morning and night skin care routine courtesy of his dermatologist, some simple makeup, and then camping essentials– bug spray, some technical shit, and sunscreen. There were some things he couldn’t live without.
He made sure to keep his sunscreen accessible for days like these, sunny and oppressing– it would not be a great look to be caught on camera sunburnt. So when he turned around at the sound of someone entering the tent and saw Hyunjoon looking pink around the edges, his eyes widened. “Oh no…. did you forget to bring some?” He gestured to his own face in a circle. “You’re getting burnt!”
He grabbed his bottle and ushered the younger trainee inside. “I don’t wanna seem like I’m lecturing you or anything, but try to be more careful. You’re already starting to burn.” Nodding to where his bag is perched, he moved over closer. “You can use mine, it’s high SPF…. You good?”
hyunjoon had been on a mission to collect people, one of his other hyungs relieving him of his not taxing at all kitchen duties to go round up the other trainees for dinner. a pout had been resting on his face since the moment he was shooed away but he also knew better than to argue with anyone–especially not his overbearing hyungs who are always so concerned for his well being. he supposed he should get use to the coddling and babying being the youngest here by a good range. but it was smothering sometimes.
and it never ends. his eyes widen as youngjae ushers him inside before he could get anything out. expression still overly blank, but his brows raise, as does one of his hands to pat at his face. feeling the heat radiating off the skin–not enough for him to be too worried but knowing how easily he can burn he supposes its a good thing someone pointed it out. “i.. have a bunch…i was just busy to reapply.” he replies in a quiet voice, a bit flustered by the attention from his sunbaenim, the concern being showed that is so similar to that of all the other hyungs. he’s only been a trainee here for three months now but they all keep looking out for him so well and he really can’t seem to get use to the attention.
“im okay, sunbaenim.” he starts, and the reddening on his face is now from a blush forming and not from the mild sun burn. “its not hurting yet or anything…” he drops his gaze to his hands where they’re clasped together before him. shyness leaking through no matter how cool he tries to be. “you don’t mind letting me use some of yours?”
Youngjae had a tendency to worry, he couldn’t really help it. Maybe it stemmed from his little sister being such a magnet for danger, it was kind of second nature to him now. This extended to all of the younger trainees. He had been in their spot, surrounded by hyungs years older than him-- it was a little overwhelming and scary for him. He tried to be nicer to all the young trainees, a helping hand in a hard-working environment. It’s why he was worried for Hyunjoon; in his experience, sunburns could cause some serious skin damage and that wasn’t what anyone needed.
“Oh that’s good, it’s probably not too bad yet.” He handed the bottle over to him and shook his head. “Nah, I don’t mind, I have loads because I’m kinda paranoid.” He chuckled and sat back on the bed beside his suitcase.
“Did you come here for anything specific?” He was a bit curious as to why Hyunjoon had come to his tent, Youngjae had disappeared for a good hour to situate himself so he wasn't expecting anyone to stumble upon him.
“I was just finishing up in here anyway.” He gestured to his suitcase and got back up, walking towards the tent opening, “Might as well get more fresh air.”
Rainbow Road || Changmin
rkyoungjae:
(…)
His suitcase was already set away in his shared tent, opened and organized for later so he wouldn’t have to look for all his skin care products in a rush around nighttime. His backpack was already cracked open, Youngjae having immediately pulled out his switch to spend a bit of time playing Mario Kart to calm his nerves before he had to get buddybuddy with everyone else. He wanted to be in the best mindset he could be in so he could talk to everyone.
There was a small area behind the tented space where a few larger rocks were planted, the perfect area to sit down and breathe for a while and maybe even a good place for someone to break out a guitar for a group jam session. He only noticed after getting around his own tent that someone was already sitting there, hunched over something in his hands.
“Changmin, don’t let Kim sunbaenim see that posture….. oh- Pokemon?” He shouldn’t have been surprised that someone else had thought to bring their switch around. “Oh man, I didn’t know anyone else was bringing their switches…. this is great” He waved the game case with a smile and gestured to the rocks.
“Mind if I sit? I brought Mario Kart.”
ever since jei had gifted him that switch, changmin’s been inseparable from it. it’s funny, even – he’s usually never spotted more than a yard away from hyunjoon at practically any given time, but now that he’s gotten hooked on pokemon and any games he can play on the device – zelda, splatoon, you name it – he’s been fixated ever since.
of course, he promised joonie and woong that he’d be back soon once he grinds for some more exp, but a few minutes have already flown by rather quickly. to be honest, he’s not really sure if the reason why he’s so eager to use it is because of what it was, or because jei gave it to him. he’s both honored beyond belief and grateful to whom he now sees as a close older sister of some sorts, maybe even a mother with her maturity and patience with him, but nevertheless, when he hears a familiar voice and the mention of a certain name, his back immediately straightens in his seat, and he smiles sheepishly to see youngjae.
“oh, hyungie! i thought i was gonna get scolded for playing games when we should be enjoying nature…” pouting, his mouth quickly upturns into a grin when he sees youngjae has one, too, and he visibly perks up, this time for real. “yeah! woongie hyung, tae hyung, and jei noona all have ones, too! it’s a whole party~ a switch party!”
giggling, he nods enthusiastically at the older male’s request, and quickly saves his game before closing out of it. “that’s perfect! let’s race then, shall we, hyung? best out of three gets a prize?”
Youngjae can't help but laugh out when he sees Changmin’s back straighten at his words. It’s kind of his thing around the other TRC boys to catch them off-guard with some sort of joke scolding. It’s all in good humour and usually everyone just laughs it off when they realize he isn’t one of their coaches.
“I’m definitely scolding you-- look at all this.... grass. So interesting and fun....” It’s hard to keep a straight face so he gives up and starts laughing again. “Oh man, we definitely have to gather everyone up before this is over and play a group game or something. That’s some real bonding there.”
Youngjae perches on the space beside him and pulls up his game, the loading screen bright and colourful. “I have to warn you, I always play Waluigi.” It takes a moment but the game finally loads so he disengages the controllers and sets up the screen in front of them. “I’d spew some crap about me not playing this game a lot to justify when I lose horribly, but I’ll just be honest and tell you now that I kinda suck. I can drive a real car but apparently the Gold Kart is too much for my meager racing skills.” He offers the other controller with a sheepish grin, “So what should the prize be?”
TRIPLE CROWN ENTERTAINMENT, or TRC for short, was founded by the former composer and rap artist, TIGER JK. originally created on nothing, Tiger JK’s ambition to have his trainees carry on his legacy became an avant garde sensation in the States, Japan and Korea. Currently, TRC Entertainment remains the hardest company to enter. The training period for TRC Ent. is brutal and only a few trainees ever get to see the limelight of the stage. Only the most talented artists can survive TRC’s rigorous training and see the shining end to their efforts.
