Hey guys! I wanted to share the process behind this Morpeko piece. There’s something so therapeutic about sitting down, hitting record, and watching hours of sketching and coloring shrink into a few seconds of pure energy.
Honestly, I’ve been slightly obsessed with Morpeko lately. I love characters that have that dual personality trait—it’s just so relatable, especially when you’re an artist working past midnight and the hunger hits. I really wanted to capture that contrast: the pure, innocent happiness of its Full Belly Mode being literally haunted by its own chaotic, insatiable Hangry Form as a sort of glowing aura.
One of the biggest challenges while recording this speedpaint was definitely the lighting. I wanted the purple/pink aura to feel alive and actually affect the shading on the main body without making the whole piece look muddy. Balancing those warm, soft tones of the happy Morpeko with the harsh, saturated light of the spirit took some back-and-forth tweaking, but I’m really happy with how the final glow turned out. (You can actually see me struggling and rearranging layers in the video, we love an honest process here).
Every time I draw Pokémon, it takes me back to why I started drawing in the first place—just creating fun designs without overthinking it too much.
I’d love to know what you think! Who is your go-to Pokémon when you’re in a bad mood, or just plain hangry? And what other Pokémon would you like to see in a future speedpaint? Drop your favorites in the comments/notes, I’m looking for fresh ideas for the next video! 💖
