I'm gonna go ahead and say, read this at your own risk.

trigger warning: mentions of rape, abuse, murder, and a tragic love story.

Boys Don't Cry is the best representation of transgender hate and discrimination I've ever seen. this movie made me cry. i had to step away in the middle to keep myself from having a panic attack. this movie is about a trans-man named Brandon Teena. this movie was based on real events. THIS IS REAL. Brandon, Lana, tom, and john started off as friends.

Bandon lived in Lincoln Nebraska and died in Humboldt Nebraska. his mother disapproved of him being trans and made his sister distrust him. in the movie some names and people were changed but the main cast were considered 'accurate' to the crime. Brandon started dating Lana, johns friend, about halfway through the movie. he hid the fact he was trans as best he could. inevitably john and tom found out Brandon's secret. they told Lana but Lana didn't care. she had fallen in love and accepted Brandon for who he was. john and tom kidnapped Brandon and took him to a remote location where they beat and raped him. they promised not to hurt him anymore if Brandon didn't tell anyone. Brandon promised but ran away from them to go find Lana. Lana called an ambulance and a police report was made.

john and tom found out that Brandon told. at the time Brandon was staying with another of the groups friends. john and tom killed both Brandon and the friend. it is said in the movie that that friend had a kid but i am unsure if that is true to real life or not.

this movie broke me. its said that Lana had a kid two years later and moved back home to take care of her kid.

i don't think many people know how real of a fear this is for so many trans people. i myself am trans. i have been beaten and threatened over coming out to people. I'm to the point in my life that i am not afraid anymore. it happens all the time and no one hears about it. if i die for being who i am then at least use my story to make awareness.
