SET/3
Here are a set of photographs taken by me myself, under specific light conditions to better express the three dimensionality, reflective characteristics of verticals, to enrich the visual qulity by shades and shadows and to highlight (and emphasise) certain aspects of the total design.

ALTERNATION_byLANDERS
We have been walking through landscape design, with all the long working hours (even the opportunity to watch the sunrise after long nights..), brainstorms, desk critiques, conflicts and concurrences, concept models, sketches, ideas, change of minds, explorations; here we are, at the end of the term, standing with our final posters and models in front of jury...
It is the very essence of a process (any kind of it) or a work, to feel satisfied and to be sincerely convinced that you have done (sometimes at least tried/worked for) your best. The good thing is that, as myself, and (even/more) as us, every single member of Landers, we managed that very essence!
Above you can see our posters we prepared for the final jury|presentation. Photographs will continue...
A few more scenes from the process of creation of Alternation_byLanders, including;
> clay partial model creation, showing organic forms
> 3D diagram resembling a piano keyboard, to express the idea of some verticals turning into sound sources (generating sound waves of different frequency)
> verticals grouped according to their heights from the ground (diminishing as approaching to Atakule)
QR Code we produced for the blog in which we collected our own individual perspectives, interpretations, and sentences as Landers mates. It contains the whole process of creation of ‘’ALTERNATION_byLanders’’.
Why don’t you check it?
SKETCH PROBLEM 1 // OBSERVING & SKETCHING LANDSCAPE
Quick sketches related with sketch problem 1a and 1b.
Pencil sketching is one of the things that has been discouraging me... What is to be done about this issue is to try and work harder on that, I always knew that, rather than keeping away from.
At the very beginning of the term, I was walking around to choose a specific site for the sketch problem-series. When I came to the back road of the library, I knew that I wanted to choose that frame including a part of library building (built environment), people who are trying to catch their classes or keep a seat for themselves in our crowded library and plants that are framing the previous two and completing the missing quality: natural&living. These three elements are the main elements that we were supposed to look for. First I looked for the relation between them, the elements that I just mentioned, tried to identify the effect of one on another and to feel the life that is going on. Finally I had a quick sketch so that I could choose and abstract some of these elements of reality, involve in a more active analytical thinking while drawing-rather than just looking/thinking and record all these remarks on a piece of paper.
This is an ongoing series of sketches, including 3 stages. The first three photographs above are for the sketch problem 1a, when it was fall, October. The last one is for the second stage, 1b. Even though I could not express it via sketching in a good way, seasonal changes (time component) has a huge effect on landscape spaces as well as people themselves. Green starts to fade, then turns into brown only, people start to walk faster and rush to arrive their destination rather than wandering around and spending time in outside and the spatial effect of trees-vegetation start to weaken due to shedding leaves.
I hope I will improve myself on the process of having a critical look at a place, digesting what I grasp and experiencing-expressing it with drawing medium.
Final design proposal for ‘’Atakule’’ is on the way!
Selection of scenes from another working day. (or shall i say working night?) Experimenting with more plastic/organic forms to convey our ideas in a better and abstract-to-a-certain-extent way. Yes, as you guess, we are working with clay for a specific part of our model. That is the natural path part, we may give a more specific name to it sometime soon. And evolving from small grids (tetris blocks consisting of gridal system), now we decided on strips instead. Grey cardboard strips showing them.
Work hard, hope for the best!
INSPIRATION // LOOKING BEYOND:
PINE CONE GARDEN_by WEST8 (2003, Padula, Italy)
A design work by West 8, a garden of pine cones, hundreds and thousands of them. Imagining the atmosphere, feeling of walking on a raised platform above those, crakles, their overall effect with sunshine, involving in nature itself in such a way... Pine Cone Garden captured me, in the first look! Awe-inspiring...
“One of the inner gardens of the Carthusian Monastery of Padula, Italy, has been strewn with thousands of pinecones collected by children in the neighbourhood. In combination with the existing cedar trees, they create an aroma of forest and dried wood. The excess of pinecones is overwhelming and the crackling of drying seeds in the sun brings a consciousness of the evolution process. During the night the pinecones glow from underneath with a red light. The hills of Padula rise above the surrounding pinecone walls. Only this view and the blue sky with the bright sun place you back in reality.”

ATAKULE DESIGN PROPOSAL | PROCESS
If you want a clue about our renovated proposal, be ready! Density and experince will be very important
Final design proposal for '’Atakule’’ is on the way!
Above the scenes from production & sweatshop. High hopes, hard work, short time, final week, a lot to do...
Will ‘’Landers’’ manage to complete the route they have been on for weeks? COMING SOON!

A few more photos showing the models & partial models related with the ‘’tetris ground’’, a type of firm ground in the form of leveled small blocks covering the site, and ‘’stone path’’, carrying and bringing the chaacteristics of nature. The black one, roughly in 1/50 scale, shows the formation and movement of stone path, offering possible usages like sitting, walking on, lie down, leaning against etc. We prepared them for the preluminary jury.

Basic features of the design proposal of this stage are as such;
NATURAL VS. URBAN LIFE
VERTICAL ELEMENTS CREATING DIFFERENT ALTERNATIVES
VEGETATION SOMETIMES DEFINING THE SURFACES OF VERTICAL ELEMENTS // EXISTENCE&NON-EXISTENCE OF THEM
SOME VERTICALS TURNING INTO LIGHTING ELEMENTS THAT ORIENT PEOPLE AND STRENGTHEN THE DEFINITION OF PATHS
TRANSITION | FEELING OF CONTRASTENTRANCE TO THE SITE | CREATING AN INVITING AREA FOR PEOPLE
EMPLOYING A GEOMETRICAL ORGANIZATION
A NOTICABLE PATH, MAKING PROMENADE EASIER
AREAS FOR GETTING TOGETHER, CONGREGATION
CREATING HIGH SITTING PLATFORMS ALLOWING LOOKING THROUGH BOTH URBAN LIFE & NATURE
MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR PEOPLE TO HAVE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES THROUGH THE AREA
Is It Rotating or Is It Just a Myth?
Nowadays we are dealing with making a model of Atakule’s and its site. Today, I thought about its shape. I wondered why is it like a vertical long tower. Why did they create a top part for this tower like a head? So after a little bit search I came across with that result. Top of the Atakule is rotating around itself. Actually the restaurant that on the top of the Atakule is rotating and it completed its one tour in an hour. And here is the funny part, this rotation process is caused discomfort for the people on the rotating tower, such as nausea so they decreased its rotation time from an hour to one and half hour. I did not know this. I know top of the Atakule called “Dönen Kule” (rotating tower) but I never think about its word meaning.
Still I am not sure if it is true because I found all the information about rotation on blogs or internet platforms that have discussions about Atakule. I will try to find certain information about this. So I am still asking that:
Is tower really rotating or is it just a myth?
An interesting approach from my friend Orçun to the landmark of our given site, Atakule. Have you ever wondered about such an issue?
TERM PROJECT
Our term project in Landscape Design course is Reprogramming an Urban Field: Landscape Design Strategies to ‘Atakule’.
We are supposed to make a site analysis and synthesis, a precedent analysis and a design proposal during the semester. Also we were asked to form a group of 5 for the term project. Me and my dear friends, Cemre Oğuz, Elif Ayhan, Işınsu Tazıcı and Yağmur Dilek became a group which we named as Landers. Here are their blogs:
