Coming out of my cage and I’ve been doing just guys

i think rabbot is like, they met as teenagers sneaking into bars together and they started just casually hooking up right until jack enlisted and then all of a sudden he’s leaving and robby can’t stop him and by then robby developed actual feelings for him and love and jack becomes so full of shame for what they had that he just pushes robby away. and then robby hears that he’s coming back and he gets so excited because he never stopped loving jack or thinking about him or writing to him and jack would always write back but it was always so bro-y and not romantic like robby’s letters were. but he’s excited and nervous to finally see jack again when he finds out about jack’s leg and all of a sudden this guy he hasn’t seen since they were kids is all too grown up and of course robby insists on being there for jack and for taking care of him and for handling his aftercare after his amputation as if jack is not also a doctor and would not also know how to handle this. and for a moment robby gains some hope that they could at least get back to what they were but then jack is pushing him away out of fear of being a burden. he doesn’t want robby to spend all his time taking care of him, he wants robby to go love someone else, someone who can give him more. robby listens, he listens to jack, he tries to leave and tries to find another fulfilling relationship but he can’t seem to keep someone around for longer than a month. and then around the same time robby meets janey and jack meets his wife and things start feeling normal between them and robby can feel okay hanging out all four of them but if he’s ever alone with jack he can feel himself break. so he encourages jack to take the night shift so that the only time he’ll see him is at handoffs. and then when janey leaves, probably because she realizes she’s competing with a married man for robby’s affection, and then robby is spiraling again because he loves jack and jack does love him, of course he does after all they’ve been through, but jack won’t let himself feel that love. but robby is alone and he needs jack back but they’ve both pushed each other so far out of their minds that they can’t even picture the others smell anymore and then it’s covid and then jacks wife is dying and robby knows it’s selfish but he just revels in being there for jack the way he was back in the day when jack first came home and jack knows it’s terrible but he can’t help holding onto robby’s hand for a moment longer than he normally would and he feels so much shame for so many things, for loving robby for loving a man in general for loving a man throughout his entire marriage and for the thought only two months after her death that he could love robby now. he felt terrible for that because it was terrible but he’s been so repressed for so long and it’s all coming bubbling up now and suddenly it’s the new med students first day and jack and robby set eyes on that sweet little boytoy for the first time and they see each others reactions to him throughout the day and they both get viciously jealous with one another and angry with themselves because fuck it was finally to a point that they could be together and now this kid is here making them choose.
