You like the Police? Their early work was a little too reggae for my taste, but when Ghost in the Machine came out in '81, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a bright, crisp sound, and a feel of new wave fusion-pop that really gives the songs a big boost. They’ve been compared to The Cars, but I think the Police have a far more sophisticated, intelligent sense of the world. In '83, they released this; Synchronicity, their most commercially successful album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Every Breath You Take," a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about pining for love from an unreciprocal subject, it's also a personal statement about Sting himself and his intense desire for another woman when he was still married.
