Artist Jay Shells channeled his love of hip hop music and his uncanny sign-making skills towards a brand new project: “Rap Quotes.” For this ongoing project, Shells created official-looking street signs quoting famous rap lyrics that shout out specific street corners and locations.

Not the greatest of pics but this is Carnegie hall and where I spent my last night in NY. I went and listened to the American Composer's orchestra perform Steve Reich's "Eight Lines" and it was an amazing experience to say the least, I was wiping tears from my eyes. Little did I know I was sitting in the room with some of America's most respected composers. I walked up to a man at the end of the show who I thought was one of the composers of the concert. Much to my embarrassment this man was Robert Sirota, a hugely talented and respected Composer and up until last year was the president of the manhattan school of music!!!! I said I was a composer, albeit very new and he gave me his email and said for me to send him some music. I sent him an email and he wrote straight back, definitely not what I expected. I love the vibe over here. No matter how great the musicians are, the ego is small and they always want to hear something new. As it turns out confusing him with someone else turned out to be one of the best mistakes I could have made. Here is to New York and following your intuition. You never know where you may be heading but just follow you heart, it will never lead you astray.
Having my first bit of downtime since I got to NYC. Came home after dinner to recuperate. Working on my first piece written for an orchestra. Feeling inspired in the New York. #nyc #newyork #manhattan #inspired #composition #orchestration
