mick jagger and red doors: an age-old rivalry

A Kind Of Magic (1986)
Mr. Roger “Known for the hugeness of my gong” Taylor
me listening to songs

i love when you hear a song and you're like “oh id absolutely stumble through the snow bleeding from a knife stuck in my gut to this”
woman listens to song she used to love when she was fifteen 10 dead 20 injured
He's so real
me when a 1980s music video is weird:
Monteverdi Sierra Cabriolet, 1978. In addition the the Dodge Aspen-based saloon, Carrozzeria Fissore also modified the Dodge Diplomat Coupé to create a convertible version powered by Chrysler's 318ci V8. Just 2 were made
We all know the glorious end to the BoRhap video, right? The one with Roger slathered in baby oil, banging away on a massive gong?
This is probably on of those things that's obvious to everyone but me, but I only just realised that it's modelled on this iconic image:
This is the "Rank Gongman" (sorry I didn't make up the name): Ken Richmond*. This scene of him hitting a gong came at the start of every Rank film production since the mid-fifties. You can see and hear it in action here.
Of course, there are some important differences.
One, the Gongman banged a paper gong. Roger's is the real deal.
Second, the Gongman was "a super-heavyweight freestyle wrestling champion who took Olympic bronze in the 1952 Melbourne games, fourth place in 1956 and a Commonwealth gold and bronze in 1954 and 1950 respectively." Roger only looked like one 😏
They were both "prolific film extra[s]" though.
*There were three other gongmen before him: Carl Dane, Billy Wells, and Phil Nieman.
