Being alive in this age feels more like a punishment than a gift but at the end of the day, I’m so lucky to have been born in time to make my own choice about having children. That isn’t to say it’s not usually met with people trying to change my mind, but I get to choose whether or not I want kids, and for most if not all of the women before me, that was never a question, and it was not a decision for them to make. They never got to choose a quiet home, no children, or their own income in their very own bank account they opened themselves that was theirs to spend on anything they wanted. And while I’m sure many of my grandmothers before me were happy in their lives, I have the opportunity to be the daughter that lived for herself and lived comfortably. It’s a dark world we live in but at least I don’t live underneath a man.
