“No I think we’re definitely in love. But we’re like best friends who are in love.”
-Taylor in the Opalite video extended version part 1
Everyone’s focused on the rock while the real important stuff is going on in the background. 🤭
When you know you know.
When you don’t you don’t.
Funny how the random woman that appears in her music videos since reputation is been blonde until *checks notes* 🙂↔️
please insert brunette smoking duck lol
when you think about it, it’s pretty wild 😆
A random brunette woman with two little boys, darker hair and blonde in the background at a playground… with a swing set…
(x)
Lonely woman buys a rock to be her best friend. She has a great time with the rock. Happily goes out with the rock best friend, exercises with the rock best friend, does karaoke with the rock best friend, goes out for drinks with the rock best friend, makes a friendship bracelet for the rock best friend. Lonely woman decides to order Opalite which is advertised to work on friendships couples pets and coworkers. The Opalite comes in the mail and she sprays herself with it.
Implying she’s the thing that needs to be fixed for the rock best friend.
Instead of being turned into a rock she gets transported to a lonely man who is tired of being hurt by his cactus lover. She becomes his new partner and does couple stuff with him. They hold hands in public while holding pretzels going down the escalator where he sees his former cactus lover who is flipping him off. And she sees her best friend rock with a fuck you forever bracelet. Then there is a reverse product nopealite for sale in the mall that the lonely woman seemed open to being sprayed with and the lonely man pushes her out of the way and knocks the spray bottle away.
Idk…The lonely woman seemed like she wanted to become a rock with her best friend not end up partners with a random guy.
🤯 Amazing, @chickawah23 !!!
I had tidbits of these thoughts floating around in my head but hadn’t connected them. Great analysis.
Storytime : how much is faked in what you're shown.... a lot of the time
Without getting into more details, I work for a company that employs thousands of people, in over 20 countries. You may not have heard our name, but you have most likely interacted with hundreds of products or services that we have participated in developing, maintaining, evolving and/or marketing. Needless to say, we are involved in many sectors of activity, at a variety of levels.
Which is why I can tell this story without it being too revealing.
I want it to be an illustration of :
How much is faked in things that are presented to you for consumption
Sometimes, for seemingly no purpose (if it is, it’s because it’s considered to add an amount of commercial value, but as an outsider, would you consider it worth the effort? I’m willing to bet, in this case, you’ll think not)
How much work can go into faking little details
Picture this:
A studio is set up to record two people that will be talking heads in a made for tv documentary. One man, one woman. They are not hosts, they are in the commentators / experts / interviewed people category. The images of the doc I saw were wide nature shots, different landscape panoramas. It wouldn’t shock me if it was some kind of earth / geology documentary.
Hair and makeup is done, because these two have to be on camera. Because of lighting and high quality video equipment, even if you are shown “natural”, you still get makeup to even skintone, hide undereye darkness, make you look “peppier”. For example, classic stuff on men is skincolor kohl in the waterline and some kind of faint lip color if your lips are too pale to make you look more awake. And you know, powders because how dare human skin produce oils to be alive.
So, that happens. Six times. Over the course of the day.
She changes hairdo, earings, makeup.
They change clothes.
He gets a beanie, then not. They go as far as to trim his 5-day beard to a 3-day beard.
Why?
For variety. And to make it look like time passes and the interviews weren’t all shot at the same time.
I shit you not. That was the sole purpose. Because I guess they think the nerds like us who watch geology documentaries will be bored if the people explaining the sciencey stuff look the same every time they speak.
Either that, or they set up their spoken parts to pretend that they were commenting at different period of shooting the doc.
(You know, like Top Chef competitors interviews being edited in and them commenting as the episode goes as if the whole thing hasn’t been shot after the end of it.)
So. I dunno. Personally, as a consumer, whether it’s transparent or it fools me, I think that’s going to great lengths and financial effort (that’s a ton of extra billable hours) for something I find super silly.
And I’m pretty sure that’s what was going on there. Just make it more dynamic.
Now. You could make it more lucrative. And it might end up in our pocket or someone else’s depending on who makes the deal, here.
Say this interview you’re producing is about something that’s a lot more interesting to a lot more people and you can guarantee a certain amount of audience. (Anyting, the first interview of a press tour for some major movie, the episode about the true crime case that shook the country last year, the first interview of so-and-so after a scandal… what have you. Anything is an opportunity to make money (sigh).)
So let’s say you’ve got that. You know that this will get eyes on it. Maybe that extra cost is completely covered by a couple of brands that want their earrings or blazer or new watch or beanie shown in the interview. Hell. Maybe every brand can cover the whole cost of this extra work. (Welp, maybe, unless some of them are competing brands, and one of them negociates an exclusivity deal, so you definitely cannot also work with this other brand on this shoot. Or if one of the people involved has a contract, or-.... And that’s why there are so many lawyers in PR…. And that’s why we come in so that the poor folks who just wanted to make a documentary don’t have to think of, organize, and implement all of that…)
And that’s it. When I first stepped behind the scenes, that’s the kind of details on a much larger project that both fascinated and baffled me. I hope this wasn’t too boring to read.
(I have another story on how much money can be “thrown away” by instantly scrapping a project AFTER LAUNCH because of how much those little details do matter. Let me know if you’re interested.)
This is a great story! People get bored SO fast. Things have to at least seem dynamic or they will lose interest.
I get so annoyed at people saying Taylor doesn’t need PR. Because she does! For lots of reasons. And one big reason is… people get bored easily.

This is true lore
Hey Spade,
As someone who has watched the entire docuseries, I had some key takeaways on where this may go down the road and why I believe she included 🚜 the way she did:
- The conversation with her mom and talking about doing something different in whom she dated. She dated the actor, musician, athlete and down the road we find out it “didn’t work” because the missing puzzle piece can’t be found in a man.
- The message she read that 🚜 “wrote” about her being “the love of my life” is seeding that she is going to break 🚜 heart and be the bad guy. He wanted a life with her but she ended it and broke HIS heart. She wants it to be known he was always a great guy to her fans and highlighted him in such a way that it celebrates that.
I view this docuseries as preemptive damage control for when there’s the inevitable broken engagement.
She ended the docuseries with the update on her personal life. It was the ending swifties have dreamed of for her. She gave it to them. Take note of the song “happiness” being used. I interpreted this as her saying she found happiness with these fans but she will find happiness after some of them inevitably leave and she builds and finds happiness with a new fan base. The ones that see her.
I think sometimes we are so desperate to find the bloom that we miss searching for the seeds.
This documentary was a gift to the swifties but she’s going to smash up their fairytale ending.
🎃 Your guilt is only placated by the fact that you tried to warn them. So. Many. Times. You told them that you were a monster. A traitorous beast. A godzilla smashing your way through their town. You grit your teeth. You hold your microphone like a matchstick. You try to enjoy what you can, while you can. Because once that curtain draws, things will never be the same again. They will finally be as they should have been all along. And that's the best and worst part of it all. 🎃
Like this analysis!
