This is Goodbye || @thefullmetalalchemist
Ed didn’t trust his voice, so instead he just nodded - face pressed suffocatingly into the shirt. At this point, drained and empty, Ed wasn’t sure he could make it up the stairs alone, but he didn’t want to force his presence upon Alfons, who might want the time to himself - time to think, time to let go.
Moving to extricate his body from Alfons’ arms, Ed turned to face the hallway. “I-I guess I’ll go to bed…” He felt suddenly very lonely away from the warmth of the embrace and knew the sensation would only increase the further he traveled from Alfons. Tonight it might just be a room between them, but soon they would be worlds apart.
Ed had never been the one for drinking, never even considered why anyone would try to find all the solutions to life’s problems at the bottom of a bottle. Though at that moment, he needed something to take his mind off the future - an alternative coming to mind more enjoyable than alcohol - but he wasn’t sure Alfons would be in the mood to give it.
The second Edward let go of Alfons, he lost the warmth, suddenly feeling very cold in more ways than one. He stood his ground between the living room and the hallway, watching Edward turn to leave but stop in the middle of the hall as well. An awkward silence filled the air and Alfons mulled over the things he wanted to do.
Taking a few steps forward, he strode over to Edward, and crushed their lips together. Maybe he would regret it later but he had an overwhelming desire to do just this at this very moment. Alfons pressed into the kiss, giving it his all. It was filled with more than just lust and desire: love, sadness, hopelessness. It was bittersweet.
