“This is the rockpile! It’s what gives the Rockpile Museum its name!”

This is one of our local museums; it’s not very big, but it’s free and it’s got quite an impressive amount of artifacts and hands on exhibits for its size. They keep talking about expanding it, and I really hope they can in the future. I’d love to see more artifacts on display there and maybe a few more interactive exhibits.

I’m sure I’ll be posting more pictures from the Rockpile soon. I’d like to see more people visit it and maybe even donate to it to help its chances of expanding.

The Campbell County Rockpile Museum in Gillette, Wyoming announces the opening of a new exhibit: Roosevelt’s Coal Army: Civilian Conservation Corps in Campbell County 1933-1942.  Launched April 5, 1933, the Civilian Conservations Corps, or CCC, provided jobs and family income for America’s unemployed young men ages 18 to 25 and war veterans, who worked to improve public and private lands. Over a dozen camps were established between 1933 and 1942 to fight coal fires near Gillette. This project, overseen by the General Land Office, was unique to the CCC and was the only project like it in the nation.
