how did you learn anatomy so well?

As any artist will tell you: P r a c t i c e P r a c t i c e P r a c t i c e

In terms of learning material, definitely lots of porn over the past however many years. Looking at and observing the naked body can really help build a map in your brain on how it all goes together, whether or not you’re using it as a direct reference.

 Observing people in every day life helps too, especially with arms, legs, and casual positions. Trying to actively watch for how the body is proportioned, how it can twist and bend, and how it can stretch and relax builds muscle memory that you can call upon at any time. 

Of course, looking up real anatomical references never hurts. if there’s a part that’s really stumping me, I like to look up the muscles of the problem area, or find a picture of the position I’m looking for. I always try to either like or save the tutorials that pop up on my dash that show simplifications- sometimes seing abasic shape of something causes it all to fall in place!

Another thing that helped me is trying to “feel” the drawing. can you feel how the muscles are contracted or relaxed? can you feel where the body is stretching? Where the weight it going? How it’s impacted? If you can’t feel it right, It might not look right either... that, or like me you’re not very flexible.
