I’ll be glad when I can sleep through the night, but until then, I’m happy to comfort the baby at night. I’m sure she was a sweetheart! It’s really nuts. I’m sure I won’t. When he starts walking Andre and I definitely have to up our baby-proofing game.
Yeah, it’s worth it in the long run. Oh she was, certainly. I mean I imagine most kids under a year old are pretty darn sweet but it was something special getting to be a part of her life and having her be a part of mine for a little while. Haha yeah prepare for baby gates and outlet covers if you don’t already have them. My sister went through that with my niece when she started crawling and pulling herself up to stand next to furniture.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s so strange to feel one way and then once you have something, there’s a sort of emptiness you didn’t think you’d miss. We happily would have, but she’s actually found a permanent home. Which of course I’m elated about. What about Delia?
Exactly. There’s certainly a mourning period for this, that I’m sure will pass with time but we still have to go through it. Oh that’s good to hear that she has a permanent home now. They suspected that they might have found foster-to-adopt parents for Delia but there was still some interviewing they wanted to do first. I considered offering to keep her until they had something certain in place, but it felt like I was just going to prolong this whole mourning period if I did.

I’m sure you’ll be happy to be able to sleep all the way through the night and maybe be able to drink coffee a bit later in the morning. I’m sure it is. Thank you! He’s five months old now. He has grown so much since we took him in, but he’s still this little thing.
I really will. Spending long days relating to my job does make me appreciate those full nights of sleep more than I used to. Still, Delia was a sweetheart, and caring for her for the time that I did made it worth the sometimes random, and sometimes anticipated sleepless nights. Aw that’s really cute. But also nuts how fast they grow when that little. I bet you won’t be saying that about him soon enough haha.

Andre and I have actually decided to keep Milo. So we’ll be experiencing interrupted sleep until he starts sleeping through the night. I’m sure you’ll stop waking up in the middle of the night in the next week or so.
Yeah, I know eventually I’ll get back to sleeping regularly again, whatever that looks like, hah. It’s just odd and a little depressing right now. But that’s great for you and Andre keeping your foster kid. How old is he?

Oh very much. A couple of months acting as a guardian and now it feels like days are so much longer. And emptier, honestly.
Yeah, it’s weird, and a little depressing. Hopefully though, whoever ends up caring for these kids next will be good people and in their lives a lot longer. I can’t imagine what it’s like going from home to home like that.

Absolutely I’m feeling the same way. It feels so bizarre without the happy giggles, cartoons and energy zinging around here. I always thought I’d prefer the peace and quiet but now it just feels a little bit… empty.
Yeah that’s kind of how I’ve been feeling. Home was a great place for decompressing from the busyness and noise of the day but I’d gotten used to how things had been with Delia around. Kids shows, singing nursery rhymes, the babble from her. All of that. Did you and RJ consider keeping her longer or was that not an option?
It’s only been a couple of days but I don’t think I’ve gotten used to having the semi-quiet in my house again now that Delia’s gone. I even woke up in the middle of the night out of habit, only to remember I wasn’t needing to check on anyone. Is anyone else experiencing this?

“I bet she has. I love her little outfit,” Emmy smiled, then made a silly face at Delia, hoping to get a giggle out of it. “It actually is. I wouldn’t believe it without seeing it for myself though,” she admitted. “The animals were one of our first stops too. Sophia was eager to see them. Which was a favorite for ya’ll?” Roger’s question provoked Emmy to nudge a thumb in the direction of the dance floor, where Sophia had dragged RJ out onto it. “Right there. I told her to get in a dance with him first,” Emmy chuckled. “So if you need more encouragement, I’m sure they’d be thrilled to have company.”
“Thanks, my sister insisted on it,” Roger admitted, smiling fondly at little Delia while recalling the exchange with his sister. He watched a big smile quickly grow on the baby girl’s face from Emmy’s silly face; she hadn’t quickly laughed but the smile stayed large and she began wriggling in Roger’s arms. “You wanna hold her?” he asked, lightly bouncing the little girl to keep her amusement up. When talking about the animals, Roger said, “Well, I liked the baby goats, but Delia here was trying to get out of my arms and into the pig pen. What about you guys?” He followed the direction Emmy indicated and watched for a few seconds as a little girl tugged on RJ. He grinned while turning back to Emmy. “That’s cute. I’ll see about taking this squirt out there in a bit--make sure she gets the full hoedown experience before it’s time to turn in for the night.”

Does it ever, if nothing else she’s keeping us on our toes and always giving us new perspectives to look at. Wow, and I thought we had our hands full, I can’t even imagine honestly but I’m glad it’s been going well for you. Oh boy… the very best part of it too, right? Hah.
It’s pretty incredible how kids can do something like that, huh? Oh I’ve no doubt you guys have your hands full too. Working and fostering a kid is a lot, but we’re all on a learning curve, aren’t we? Haha, yeah only because it keeps the house from smelling like a porta-potty. Are you guys gonna all dress up for Halloween?

“Well howdy!” Emmy mused back, her face alight with a grin when she recognized Roger. Then her eyes fell to the cute little cowgirl in tow and she audibly gasped at the adorableness. “I am. I have to admit– a hoedown has never really been my thing. Or dances in general. But it’s kind of nice when you actually know most of the people here,” Emmy answered warmly. “How about you two? Have you taught her the two-step yet?”
Roger chuckled at Emmy’s returned greeting and grinned when Emmy’s attention went to little Delia. “She’s been getting that reaction a lot when we’ve been out and about.” He offered his index finger for the little girl to grip and lightly shook it back and forth for her amusement while conversing. “Yeah, I can’t say I’ve been to a lot of these before but it’s kinda fun. No dance lessons for Delia yet but we did go and see some of the animals earlier. Maybe we’ll have to hit the dance floor..-space before the night’s over though. What about the rest of your family?”

She does, she’s just so interested in everything. I mean… everything. And really it’s all we can do to keep up with her sometimes, hah. Aw are you? That’s adorable honestly, and oh that’s true, that would be so much easier to keep up with. That’s so great, I bet she’s enjoying it just as much as you are.
Haha, that’s got to keep things interesting. And having next-to-no filter’s sure to add to that. Yeah I haven’t been around a baby this young since my niece was this age and even then, I wasn’t with her on a daily basis. Still, it’s been going better for me than I expected, even with figuring out a new albeit temporary routine for myself. Including a lot of diaper changes, haha.

Do they keep up with U.S. or global politics? Yes, mostly U.S. but he’ll occasionally read up on global matters as well.
Are they prone to engaging in political debates & discussions? Yes but these days he finds himself quickly regretting it and in need of reminding himself to stop, since things tend to quickly turn into arguments.
Would they ever take up any sort of political office? No.
Do they ID with a certain gender (male, female, agender, genderqueer/fluid, etc.)? Cis male.
Do they ID with a certain sexual orientation (homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual, asexual, etc.)? Romantic heterosexual.
Are they open in expressing or talking about their gender &/or sexual orientation with others? He’s perfectly fine with both expressing and discussing.
If sex interests them, do they consider themselves sexually experienced or inexperienced? Experienced.
Do they know how to drive? Do they have a vehicle of their own? He does, for both questions.
What does their car look like if they own one? His car looks like this.
If they have gone on a vacation before, what was their favorite destination? He took a trip to Puerto Vallarta this past summer and it became his favorite vacation he’s taken thus far in his life.
Have they ever ridden on an airplane? A train? On a boat/ship? A bus? The subway? He has ridden on a plane, boat and bus before.
Has your character ever burned a basic food item (toast, pasta, etc.)? He once accidentally burned some toast while experimenting with a toaster oven’s settings.
Has your character ever been admitted to a hospital? Yes.
What kind of parent are they? If they aren’t already, what kind of parent do they think they would be like? As a foster parent he’s been pretty even-keeled while also gaining more direct insight into single parenthood. His patience has sometimes been tested but he’s also gained a lot of experience dealing with various personalities from his many years of teaching; it’s just a different experience for him considering he’s not caring for a student, nor is this someone who can communicate by talking yet. If it was an older kid, he’d likely be an authoritative parent, much like how he is as a teacher.
Has your character ever used their status, position of power, or situation to purposely enact harm (physical, emotional, or psychological) on someone else? He may have had a pretty intense verbal showdown with a parent some years ago, and the parent may have responded with some empty threats but Roger’s never regretted the things he said, whether they actually enacted harm to that parent or not.
If someone does a favor for your character, do they tend to feel obligated to return said favor or show some form of gratitude? Sometimes, but not always. It depends on what the favor was.
What talents/skills does your character possess? He’s a fairly talented actor/singer, and a decent dancer. He also can play guitar fairly well, and he possesses some great bowling skills.
Describe your character’s main sense of humor (dry, corny, sarcastic, cynical, high-brow, bathroom, etc.): Roger’s sense of humor is a mix of cynical and sarcastic. And he likes some high-brow humor
Are they religious? If so, what religion(s) do they practice? He’s not religious but he claims to believe in the philosophy of Deism.
Do they have any traditions (picnics, holidays, etc.) that they put on or participate in? If so, what are they? Who started them? He spends every New Years with his mom and sister (and niece), and he, his sister and his mom visit his father’s grave three times a year (dia de muertos, his late father’s birthday and the anniversary of his death) to place flowers, and then they have a potluck meal together. All of those traditions just naturally fell into place between them.

How does your character define ‘family’? He’s fairly literal in this regard, so his blood relatives, adopted relatives/people related to him are his family.
Does your character forgive easily for transgressions, intentional or accidental? He doesn’t forgive intentional actions against him very easily, no.
What’s the best way to keep a friendship with your character? Be a good person, do your best, and don’t cheat yourself or others.
Does your character have a lot of friends or few friends? He has just a few friends.
Who are your character’s closest friends? A couple of colleagues, a couple family friends and a friend he’s had since high school.
What’s one short term goal they have for themselves now? Getting through the balance of teaching and fostering.
What do they do when they fail at something they meant to succeed at? He gets pretty upset and tends to linger in that upset for a bit. When he gets over it, he’ll decide whether or not to try again or make himself get over it and move on.
It’s your character’s birthday! From the moment they wake up to the time they go to bed, what are they doing to celebrate? Roger’s never done anything extravagant for his birthday and since he teaches, most of the time, his birthday’s been spent at work with a good dinner with his mom and sister (and niece). This year, he did bowling, pizza and beer.
Who is a celebrity (living or dead) that they would like to meet? Dame Julie Andrews, Sir Ian McKellan, and Rita Moreno.
Your character just won tickets to see their favorite band/artist (living or dead). Who are they going to see?
Do they watch/go to the movies often? He likes to watch movies sometimes but he’s more into live theatre.
Do they enjoy reading books? Sometimes, but he spends so much time reading papers and scripts, that he doesn’t read very many novels.
Is it easy for them to become involved with someone (friendship or otherwise)? It’s not at all easy for him, or at least he doesn’t think so.
What qualities do they like in others? Honesty, intelligence, confidence, a sense of humor, an interest in trying new things,
What in others turns them off? Constant reservation, a notable lack of self-care, no motivation, and little-to-no decisiveness.
Do they like to be romanced? Would they consider themselves a romantic person? Do they try to be? He’s flattered to be romanced for special occasions, but doesn’t insist on it. And he wouldn’t call himself a romantic person but he does try to be for a special someone in his life.
Do they like nicknames or pet names/have special names for themselves or whomever they’re with? He might light-heartedly use pet names/names of endearment for a significant other.
Do they get jealous easily? Do they have insecurities for themselves when it comes to relationships? He has gotten jealous before, mostly out of insecurities he’s held before, yes.
What is their favorite intimate gesture (hugging, hand-holding, playing footsie, cuddling, pecks on the lips, making out, foreplay, sex, etc.)? Kisses and sharing food.
What is the most special thing someone else (who is not family) has done for your character? A few of his students a few years back all chipped in and got him a nice picture frame and put a cast photo in it with a card they all signed, thanking him for his work at the school.

True, but thankfully the weirdness went away once Emmy and I met our foster child and it’s actually been really great. Thank you, that’s come in handy honestly, ours is six years old so thankfully we can ask her. That’s really great advice though and I think you’re probably right. How has it been for you?
Oh, haha I’d just asked Emmy about your foster kid but that’s a fun age, 6. She’ll probably have bunch of questions for you both and at the most random times. I’m fostering a 6 month old little girl though. She’s not crawling yet but she tries to scoot a little, which makes it a lot easier for me. And she loves music. I’ve been re-discovering a lot of nursery rhymes and pulling out my guitar more often to entertain her during my grading breaks.

For sure. I haven’t been able to go all 3 days yet. I missed Apple Day but I made it to the Hoedown and Pumpkin Day, and I might check out Oktoberfest for a couple of hours to get my pretzel and sausage fix. But I’m fostering a 6 month old, and with the Movie Night being later in the day, I don’t wanna be out too late with her. I think I kinda pushed it with the hoedown. What about you and RJ?
